Not perfect, but good enough.
I purchased this charger to replace a VC2 that succumbed to rust on the sliders. Unfortunately, the VC2SL charges at 1000 ma with no way to change it, whereas the VC2 charges at 500 ma. Also, the VC2SL supposed to charge Li-Ion cells that are at 0 volts. My VC2SL reports these to be NiMH cells. My VC2 charges dead Li-Ion cells with no problems. Other than these two minor problems, the VC2SL works well.April 5th: It appears that dead cells are by default considered to be NiMH until the voltage reaches ~ 1.5 volts then the charger will recognize the cells to be Li-Ion and switch to the higher voltage scale.

It overcharges and overheats batteries. Fire hazard.
Overcharging protection does not work and it keeps charging the batteries and they become dangerously hot and when I touched the batteries being charged my finger got burned. Same batteries get recharged by all other chargers I have. This XTAR recharger killed my perfectly fine rechargeable batteries. I tried to submit warranty replacement, but RMA process does not work. The manufacturer is located in China and even if I can ship the defected charger to China, shipping charge would cost much more than the product price.Amazon directs the support to XTAR web site, but RMA process says contact the seller, Amazon first, but Amazon is not there to help the buyer. Do not buy!

Typical junk from you know where
Save your money. Like 18650 batteries, price is no indicator of quality. Pros: you can sit and stare at gauges. Cons: while you’re there, keep pushing in the usb cable as the spongy jack continually loses contact. Have bandaids handy as those spring loaded brackets are sharp.

Works great, has USB-C connection
I've owned a couple XTAR Li-Ion chargers over the years and never had problems. Needed a new one that could handle the length of unprotected 21700 cells for a new flashlight I got and this charger fit the bill. Really glad they're moving their chargers over to USB-C since basically every modern device has now switched over to that connector standard (barring iPhone... for now). Really convenient i can just plug this in to my usb-c phone chargers that i already own. No more need for the bulky barrel jack power supplies like on my older xtar chargers. Can't really find anything to complain about other than it doesn't seem to use the USB-C Power Delivery standard, just the connector. So that's missing out on some faster charging that's possible with USB-C power delivery that most phone chargers can output these days. For larger cells like the 21700 that can take around 4A max current, that would save a lot of charging time I imagine.
