Typhoon Fury: Oregon Files #12

Exciting but many technical errors
While the book was exciting it lacked some of the 'down time' exposition and just moved from action sequence to action sequence like a summer hollywood blockbuster. However, I have to wonder if Mr Cussler even reviews the text of the books anymore. EVERY diving scene was rife with amateur errors which means that the co-author is not a diver and Mr Cussler (who is, and who knows better; only Vixen 03 had a major diving error in it) can't have seen. Divers do not use OXYGEN tanks (pure oxygen is fatal at even shallow depths). Divers use compressed AIR cylinders (tanks if you want to be sloppy). Salvage diving, even of the relatively small containers of Typhoon is not that simple and it would have taken longer, and been at a depth, than the mercenaries could have 'gone back down for'. If the wreck had been that shallow it would have been found sooner - the sand argument really would not have held. Most likely they would have been using Nitrox or rebreathers (if they could afford an RPG they could have used proper gear). If there are so many errors in a relatively small part of the book then I have to wonder how many errors were in the weaponry sections.....

Cussler in good form
Not one of his best; but then there are only so many ways of 'skinning the cat' and Clive has used up every avenue it would seem. The story is entertaining if rather predictable and rather drawn-out.
