Unbelievably amazing! Now part of holy grail routine!
UPDATE 11/24/23 so you know I’m so invested in sharing our love for this 😂 and if it helps even one person, mama, daughter, etc., I’ll be happy: we still LOVE THIS product and have repurchased one time so it lasted about 6 weeks for us regularly doing the same routine as below. She plays sports formally 4 days a week and is very active most other days or has gym at least. As a reminder, she’s usually very greasy and is in the throes of hormones from starting puberty so extra sweat and grease 😅. Also, awesome money-saving/product-panning tip (IYKYK): I realized the applicator/puff is refillable so I had a lightbulb moment when thinking about WHY this product was so effective. I began thinking of what I can refill it with (possibly at a cost savings because even though we loved it, frequent repurchases and costs were imminent) and started looking at powder dry shampoo of all kinds. I was about to purchase the expensive beloved bumble & bumble dry shampoo (because it lasts forever), or other brands I hadn’t tried before. Then, while doing my makeup one day, it dawned on me that the Tap secret powder texture is very similar to the Elf HD powder which I love and use religiously, even over other more expensive products. Like a huge nerd, I then researched the ingredients in dry shampoo powders of all kinds/brands, loose setting powders, etc., and realized that the common ingredient was often silica which, duh, absorbs oil. I am sure that so many of us have tons of loose finishing powders laying around that we may not have loved for our face (banana powder for me) or cheaper products that we do love that we could fill this applicator with at a cost savings (Elf HD powder for me, which is half the price of the original Tap secret). I have now filled the original applicator with a mix of banana powder and the HD powder and Y’ALL 💡🤯. I will still repurchase and support this brand and product and to be fair, it is slightly more effective than the HD powder. Also, not all folks will be able to be compatible with banana powder color-wise (though I suggest mixing with cocoa powder and you might be 😭) or purchase the HD powder just for this (I always have the HD powder on hand so makes sense for me). BUT, the applicator is amazing and to be able to use up random setting powders in my vanity and save money? Freakin’ amazing. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Of course we all love freshly washed hair but sometimes it’s nice or necessary to prolong a hair wash! I wish I took day by day pictures of my daughter’s hair this week. I will preface this by saying that I am someone who is a little obsessive about appearance and especially hygiene and being and looking clean. I’m trying and have done well with trying not to push those tendencies on my daughter but she has entered sweaty, smelly puberty 💀. I have very dry, very curly hair so when I had my daughter who is now ten and has mostly straight hair that is prone to be oily, I had to learn how to best care for her hair as well. Her hair is often greasy by day two especially with sports and now puberty. It’s not that it looks bad but it’s not as nice as freshly washed. She always showers or bathes every day and cares for her skin, but it is nice to be able to skip a day or two a week of fully washing her hair, especially before bed. We live on the beach in a very humid climate but have cold/wet winter. In the summer, she washes her hair every night because of camp and swimming. Since it is hot outside, we can also do in the morning as well. In the fall and winter in our cold climate, we have to fully blow dry wet hair. I’ve tried every shampoo and conditioner combination, salicylic acid shampoo, nizoral, clarifying shampoo, no conditioner, conditioning the scalp, etc and have finally found the perfect solution in combination with this product! I have tried - and hated - almost every aerosol dry shampoo on her hair. Of course some of them are nice but they get expensive and the cans don’t last long. Travel is a pain and expensive to buy travel size. They often make it look like she has dandruff as well and she hates how it has a white cast. She has dark blonde hair. We got her this dry shampoo and she did her usual full shampoo and conditioner with everything else on Sunday. She sat with microfiber plop in for one hour then we blow dried completely. Monday her hair still looked great so she took a “body bath” only and I lightly used this puff for the first time on Monday. The reviews said it works best if you use dry shampoo BEFORE the hair gets oily. I did this and brushed it from roots to tips with a boar bristle brush. I thought that was a great tip! Tuesday her hair still looked so fresh that she took a “body shower” and even had soccer practice! It still looked amazing after practice and since it was late, she took a quick body shower and I blew dry her damp hair from sweating. She knew she would have to get up early before school on Wednesday to wash her hair. However on Wednesday, her hair still looked so good that she just washed her body again! Here we are on Thursday morning and she just went to school today with her hair down again!!! I haven’t applied any of the dry shampoo since a couple puffs each on Monday and Tuesday!!!! Absolutely zero dandruff appearance, no smell, zero grease and she still has lovely shine and body! I will say if you use too much, it can cause a chalky, almost hard to brush texture and a white cast but it shakes out with fingers if that makes sense. Darker haired people may want to be careful at first. I was nervous on Tuesday that I’d used too much but it was easy to correct and none of the issues lasted. Im so blown away by this product! I don’t know or care if it is the actual product or the puff applicator but it is incredible and will most definitely repurchase again and again! It will be easy to travel with as well and great for school or work bags. But as I’ve learned, if you use the right amount before developing the oiliness or greasiness, you likely won’t need to apply again! Side note but she hasn’t developed any pimples near her hairline this week and she usually does get one here and there with the start of puberty. I am thinking the hair becoming greasy often made her more prone to pimples! Unreal! If anyone is interested in the total routine that I’ve found for her hair, I’ll post below. She has pretty thick, mostly straight, dark blonde hair and we have struggled with oily hair, greasy appearance even on freshly washed hair at times and thick flaking like she used to get with “cradle cap” as a baby and toddler. Her crown and hairline get the greasiest. The absolute best combo now includes this dry shampoo but her hair wash routine is wash thoroughly (scalp and hair) with 3% salicylic acid shampoo (I use the Walgreens brand) and let sit on scalp for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Shampoo for second time with silicone and mineral oil free shampoo (currently using the Pantene bamboo line which we both love) and rinse thoroughly. Conditioner lightly (maybe a teaspoon for her thick shoulder length hair) but be sure to massage into scalp. She is currently using my Shea Moisture conditioner but we use so little it doesn’t weigh either of our hair down. A dry scalp can over produce oil to try and over compensate. Since I started doing that it reduced a bit. Make sure to rinse thoroughly! Also the blow dry completely trick is important. All of this now with the dry shampoo is HOLY GRAIL! The rest of the week, we shampoo her only once with the bamboo shampoo so SA shampoo only once a week. It would be too drying otherwise. It’s nice that the bamboo shampoo is one that we both can use. Before this dry shampoo, we still washed 4-5 times a week or suffered the consequences in a greasy up-do ugh. Now we have the freedom to shampoo less if convenient especially in the colder months! Im so grateful to be able to help my daughter find her holy grail routine as she enters puberty and feel so happy to have found this product! Can’t recommend this product enough!

WOW! Bang for your buck!
I was skeptical of the plain, original formula because a have dark brown (almost black) hair. And it is nearly impossible to find dry shampoo that doesn't leave a white cast. But this stuff???!!! It's AMAZING. it has ZERO scent. It blends PERFECTLY. Application is EASY AND FUN! I am genuinely in awe. I apply this powder in my trouble areas before bed and when I wake up, my day 2 hair looks exactly the same as my day 1 hair. No grease, no white cast. This powder does dry out my scalp just a tad, but not enough to knock off a star. I am a customer for life.

All hair colors and types, absorbs oil well!
I typically used baby powder or the dry shampoo powder from lush, but after reading how lush changed their formula, I was looking for an alternative. Product is great, but giving 4 stars due to some cons. So far my observations: PROS: Product has a pleasant yet subtle scent A little product goes a long way Perfect for blonde hair (even when you have dark roots!) as product absorbs well Travel size to bring with you anywhere! CONS: Container - the container comes with a warning label to not open the powder applicator from the bottom, however, I forgot a day later and pulled the bottom off resulting in product fall out. Dryness - the product definitely dries your hair out a bit but this can be seen with many similar products

If this ever gets discontinued, I will cry
This is the best dry shampoo I’ve ever used, but it’s not for everyone. This is for those with excessively oily scalps. If you wash your hair in the morning and it’s already looking oily by 5 pm, this is the dry shampoo for you. If your existing dry shampoo only gives you one extra day of clean hair, this is for you. The reason why a lot of people don’t like this is because it is POTENT. And by potent, I mean super drying - if you don’t use it correctly. This stuff works so well, I only have to apply it once on second day hair. With that ONE application, I can go to day 4 or even 5 without washing. I used to have to wash my hair every other day, even with some of the best dry shampoos on the market. Here’s the best way to use it: - I part my hair from my forehead to the nape of my neck and only do 2 *very light* taps. One at the top of my head and one at the back. Then I move 3 inches over, do the same part, and repeat until I’ve gone from ear to ear. - Avoid applying too close to your hairline and try not to apply directly to your scalp. Aim for the hair only. I usually tap it a couple centimeters down from the root. - The key is not using too much. This stuff goes a long way. If you use too much, it will be too drying and you’ll hate the texture of your hair. I also have dark brown hair and as long as I don’t use too much, there’s no gray cast. - Let it sit in your hair for 5 minutes to soak up the oils. Then flip your head over, rub it through your roots with your hands, and brush it out. Sometimes I even take a blow dryer to help spread the powder and blow away the excess. - It’s best if you use it before your hair gets oily, but it’ll still work if your hair is past that point. For me, my hair gets super oily overnight so I apply before bed. It is a small amount for a higher price, but with how little you need and the fact that you don’t need to reapply, it’ll last just as long as a normal dry shampoo. The small size also makes it travel friendly. Plus with it being a powder, it’s TSA friendly and it’s one less thing to cram into your clear quart sized bag. It’s returnable so follow these tips and give it a shot. Hopefully it’s as life changing for you as it is for me (dramatic, yes I know, but seriously oily hair is such a pain).

Works well but heavy build up
This works really well! My hair looks mostly fresh. The only downfall is that this causes pretty heavy buildup. Especially compared to the sprays. It drives me a little crazy. I feel like I have to shower after a day with this product in my hair and my hair doesn't feel good to the touch. Feels so dry and weird. I don't usually sleep with dry shampoo in my hair, but there are days that I couldn't shower ahead enough time before I sleep (I don't sleep with wet or damp hair), but I've had to sleep with dry shampoo in my hair before but this....I wouldn't sleep with this in my hair, it feels like I'd coat my pillowcase heavily and finely with this stuff. I can also see the oil clumps (little white dots/circles) that are caused by this product soaking up the oil. If I had time or cared enough, I'd use a blow dryer to blow more off the product off of my hair and try to get rid of some of the oil clumps. It also leaves a white or grey haze on my hair but overall doesn't look TOO bad after I shake and fluff my hair around. It's decent enough to where I can still walk out in public. I got this mainly for travel and for the container. I actually like to make my own dry shampoo with unsweetened organic cocoa and cornstarch. Less clumps, less buildup, and no white or grey haze. This is a cute container and not a bad price and not the worse dry shampoo I've used, hence the 3 stars.

Works great, no white cast, my new favorite.
This is for the neutral color Warm Vanilla & Coconut Scent. This is the best powder I have found, and better than the available drugstore sprays. I have light brown/dark blond ash tone hair (color 6A and 7A), and there is no visible white cast unless I use too much powder. It does a great job at reducing the oily/greasy look. For my fine, slick hair, it is an advantage that it adds more volume and texture, although it does seem to tangle more easily. I figure this is part of having texture. It certainly makes it easier to put it up and tease the crown, and it stays better when I use the powder. The scent is not noticable after the first 5 minutes and is NOT a fake-smell scent.

Holy Grail
This is one of the best dry shampoos I have ever used. I keep coming back to it, and part of that is the applicator puff. I have tried more expensive versions of this style of dry shampoo and end up pouring the powder from them into one of my empty Tap Secret containers. If they sold empty applicators, I'd probably buy those too. It delivers the perfect amount to absorb days of oil and make my hair look fresh. For reference, I have vivid color in my hair and wash once a week. This product allows me to achieve that flawlessly. If this is ever discontinued, I will genuinely cry. It is so so so good. There is only one dry shampoo that I think performs better, and it's an aerosol that is almost 3x the cost of this.

Better Choices Out There
I figured I would give this a try for a couple of months before I wrote a review, so here is my thoughts after two months of consistent use! I think this dry shampoo does a good job of oil control. I do like that you have a little more control of application compared to a regular spray dry shampoo and you can really concentrate it in some areas while having light coverage in other areas. I would say I have some major issues with this dry shampoo that outweighs my pros sadly. 1. It definitely leaves a residue in your hair that you can feel throughout the day. Even if it is fully settled into your hair, if you brush your hand over your scalp for example, you are going to feel it. I initially wanted to try this in hopes it would not leave a residue, as I tend to stay away from aerosol sprays for this exact reason. It is more so a personal preference and texture issue on my part, so this may be something others can look over. But for me, it really bugs me. There is certainly a learning curve using this product, LESS IS MORE, trust me. But even using a smaller amount and being careful, I cannot get past the feeling it leaves in my hair. 2. I find that my scalp is a little more itchy when using this product. Not terribly so to where I am scratching at my head all day long, but certainly noticeable. Once the product is washed out of my hair, it is seriously like my scalp is taking a big breath of fresh air. 2. I have never used a dry shampoo that made my hair SOOOO staticky!!!!! Prior to using this, I have never had an issue with my hair being staticky. I am not sure if it is the soft top applicator, or the actual dry shampoo itself, but it is a serious pain in the butt. Even running your hands through your hair, instant static. I have had to run into the bathroom at work multiple times to wet my hands with water and run them through my hair so I don't look insane lol 3. The applicator itself seems to pick up any/all pet hair. Again, it could be the fact that I have 5 cats and their hair ends up on everything :) , but it seems like any/everything will stick to the applicator. Dust, pet hair, random pieces of fuzz you name it. It is kind of a pain to have to inspect the applicator before every use. I do have a few things I did like about this product. 1. Despite the texture issue, the oil control was actually very good! I have extremely oily, thin and super dark hair. Compared to regular spray dry shampoos, this has settled into my hair better than most others I have tried. 2. I loved the convenience of the product, it is super small, small enough to stick in your purse or makeup bag for on the go and the product itself has lasted me a really long time. I have used it consistently every week, about 2/3 days a week for the last two months and I feel like I still have a really generous amount of product left. 3. No scent has been so great for me! A lot of other products have a really intense smell to them, but this has no scent at all which I appreciated. Overall, I would not repurchase this product. I feel like this product would be great for someone who does not have super oily hair, can go 2-3 days without a wash and has really thick hair. This may even work for someone with lighter hair, as I have dark brown, nearly black hair and although this product has settled into my hair better than most, if you were to get up close to me you can certainly tell there is dry shampoo in my hair.

This really freshens up the hair
This product works great when you just don't have the time to wash your hair and it's looking a little greasy. Just need a few little dabs with the powder puff and comb it through and your hair looks freshly washed. I like that it's not a spray in which you're inhaling all sorts of chemicals.Great product!

My go to dry shampoo
This is my favourite dry shampoo! I love that it’s a powder instead of an aerosol, making it a great alternative to traditional spray dry shampoos. The original applicator is one of the best I’ve used, and the refill system is so convenient—you simply screw the refill onto the applicator, making it quick and mess-free. I love the applicator so much that I’ve even used it with other powder dry shampoos, but I always come back to this product because the powder itself is my favourite. It absorbs oil really well without leaving my hair overly chalky or heavy. As a busy mom, it’s perfect for those days when I don’t have time to wash my hair but still want my hair to look fresh. The refills are a great value, and I’ll definitely keep buying them!

Works great if you don’t mind the dry texture
This works great in refreshing my dark brown/black hair after 2 days and lasted until I washed my hair on day 4 —probably could’ve gone 1day more but I didn’t like the feel of my dry hair texture. I do like the ease of the sponge (no waste) and that there’s no scent unlike some other dry shampoo sprays I’ve used. I bought it to try out for an upcoming cruise trip so overall, happy with the results.
