Packable Lightweight Travel Hiking Backpack Daypack

I bought this pack for my trip to Australia later in the year. I wanted something light and easy to pack in the suitcase. I found this little gem and I love it. I got the pack a couple of weeks ago and tossed it aside after taking out of the box. I looked at how small and flat it was and liked the size. Later that night I opened it up and unfolded it. I was really happy with the capacity and the number of pockets and compartments. I decided to take it to work the next day to see how it worked. I really don't carry that much in my work pack. Some snacks, my badge, some light first aid items, extra phone charger and battery and a few other miscellaneous items. All my items didn't even put a dent in the room of the pack. I used it for a few days and found it to be very handy and very capable of day to day use. Saturday morning I thought I would check out how it folds up into the small package that it came as. I wanted to be able to put it in my suitcase for my trip. I am a pretty handy guy around the house but for the life of me couldn't get the thing to resemble the way it came from Amazon! After about an hour and some choice words I gave up. A few hours later I went the web site and just followed the pictures and folded it up in about 1 minute. DUH you dummy! Anyway it really is easy to refold into the small pack for travel. I plan on buying a new one for my trip because this one became my day to day work pack. Great product, well made, good price and I now have the perfect pack for walkabouts in AU!

I cannot say enough good things about this backpack. This is my third (gray, orange, and now purple) and the only reason I have had so many is because I gave one to a friend who coveted it, and I beat the other one into the ground by using it every single day during the busiest and dirtiest summer of my life. Here are some insane facts about this product: - it is easily the lightest backpack I have ever handled - even though it's incredibly light, the straps are comfortable and feature little mesh pockets for putting things like chapstick. - it folds up into itself and because a super-easy extra bag for any trip - it has more great mesh side pockets that are perfect for an umbrella, a water bottle, a banana, a rolled-up magazine, a sweatshirt, or just about anything else of that size. - this is the BEST PART - the zipped pocket on the bottom front of the pack has TWO ZIPPERS. Which means that you don't have to zip all the way from one side to the other to open something (leading to stuff falling out). Nope. You can keep those suckers on the top on the pocket, and keep your stuff inside when you open it on the go - also great is the zippered mesh pocket on the inside of that bottom front pocket. So you can see your stuff! There's also a sleep behind it, for more stuff-stashing. - I have a 13" MacBook Pro that I carry in a foamy zippered case. It fits perfectly in the laptop sleeve in this baby. The backpack isn't padded, which is why it's great that my case is, so when I lug that thing around all day, it remains comfy. There was slight rippage on the side of the sleeve on my first pack after months and months of daily use, but that didn't happen with the second or, so far, the third. - The lining on the orange one did start to peel after a while (some other reviewers have mentioned this) but I need to add that I used that thing in 100+ degree heat for 15 hours a day for three months straight. It went through rain, sun, desert, mountains, sand, tropics, and more. So. I wasn't mad about this. It was still the greatest backpack ever and I thanked it every day. - Also, I didn't care at all about the slight rippage or the peeling, because THIS THING IS $15-$20. So, that's about all I have to say here. It's the best backpack and if it ever stops being produced... I don't even know. I hope that day never comes.

I bought this for a trip to Greece and it has worked wonderfully. I have at least 10 backpacks but when I saw this packable one I started reading reviews on many bags but this one was the one I kept coming back too. First off I was way surprised at the material and quality so far. I was expecting some cheap tarp like material but it is not. The material is soft. The zippers have worked great. I like that it can be left folded up and you can carry and use the outside pocket. When unfolded it has a nice small pocket for meds and sunglasses or phone. The inside has large pocket and a smaller inner pocket. The outside also has a large compartment with a mesh pocket that zips. I use this for my passports when traveling. So far on this trip I’ve carried every day. When doing to the beach it holds two masks and snorkels, towels and beach shoes. I will post a video to make it easier to see but if you are looking for something to tote necessities around while traveling or throwing souvenirs in... get this. This will not in any way, shape, or form protect breakables if dropped but it is awesome for water and necessities for sure. Oh, and super easy to clean. Washed out after the beach and was ready for action 30min to an hour later. Also had a whole tube of sunblock let loose inside it and didn’t know til I got home. I washed out with dish soap and a hose. Good to go

This is not a "sponsored" or compensated review. I am just a regular consumer. Amazon sent me an email from the manufacturer just now, asking me if I had tried out the new backpack. First of all, I was PLEASED that the color was not fuchsia, but a more dark-red-maroon color. I also purchased ebags small packing cubes and the colors were almost perfect match (not really important-but nice to have) I have not use the backpack yet. It was purchased to substitute for my Targus computer backpack that I have used for over 10 years (looks like new!). As I get older, I want a lighter load for my vacation trips. The Outlander backpack can be used for everything I do from walking to the grocery, and hauling back a gallon of milk, to general travel, overseas travel and as a day-pack anywhere. It DID seem a bit smaller than i had expected for a 35 Liter pack, however, this size keeps me in check and prevents over-packing!! What I plan to do is use this as my carry-on for overseas flights, and my nylon travel purse as the "personal" item. I will have my 26" lightweight spinner suitcase as the checked bag. This way, I keep all my stuff under the seat in front of me, and avoid the overhead bin completely. I plan to fill the main section with a change of clothing, perhaps 2-3 t shirts, my 8 inch tablet in a case, a vaVesta (sleep-vest-"pillow"-really nice). I should have room for a sweater or lightweight jacket. I plan to put a 3-1-1 small toiletry kit in the outside upper pocket. The lower outside pocket will be for headset and any other electronic things-charger (if my planes have chargers in coach!!!). This is the plan. I will try to remember to update this later on this year to see if it all worked. (I still love my Targus computer backpack, though and I am keeping it!!- it has traveled all over)

I love this thing. I always have a pack full of stuff no matter where i go. Sometimes it's just my pocket mic, a notebook, my iPad, and a bottle of water. other times it's a scarf, all of the before mentioned things, and lightweight jacket, a snack, some makeup and my camera. This all fits in here. It's lightweight to carry things in, but it doesn't feel weak or flimsy like it's going to break when it gets too full. This is the perfect take everywhere bag. I might have to get another one just so i have a back up if i don't want to unpack the first one! EDIT: 5/24/17 I now have purchased 4 of these, and own 3 of those. (one i gave to my mother.) I now travel several times a year and usually have one of these as my "personal item" with my carry on. Usually i stick small electronics, some knitting, a camera, some snacks, notebooks, markers, makeup, a book, my purse, and a fresh shirt and underthings in here. (I only travel with a carry on, so in case of spill or being trapped in an airport overnight, i don't have to dig through my big carry on and go through my packing cubes in the middle of the airport.) I'm starting to color code which bag goes where, like green is for when i'm just going around town, orange for travel to warm weather, blue for cold weather travel... Only issue i have had with any of these bags is that each one I order arrives different. My first one, which is Olive Green was the old style with the lip over the zippers. My second, which was orange, didn't have the lip over the zippers, the fuschia one i got for my mom is the same as the orange one, except for color. now the Blue one i purchased has a strap across the chest, which I'm trying to get used to, but i'm not sure how i feel about it yet. It doesn't have the pockets on the straps the other ones do, and instead has loops, where i can use a clip to hang my keys off of. (I would put small coins or pens in those pockets.) They all have the wonderful mesh pockets on the side i love to stick my fold up water bottle into, and the mesh zippered pocket inside the bottom pocket to keep my ID safe. The other thing i love about all these bags is the top pocket is PERFECT for putting boarding passes into and stashing the things you need most during a flight: pack of gum, chapstick, and earplugs, ipod and earbuds, pocket chargers, and cords for your phone. I do want to order more of these. Like i said, i'm color coding these for where i'm going. I did see some of these are starting to show a reflective stripe in the middle of the bag, which I want to avoid. I think it just isn't my thing aesthetically. I'm kind of sad to see I won't be able to get a purple one without that stripe until the design changes again.

I've been using this backpack for about 7 months now and I love it! I did a lot of research before I bought it , reading a lot of Amazon reviews about a lot of lightweight but strong backpacks. The specs of this backpack sounded right to me, but my decision to buy it was mostly based on its overwhelmingly positive reviews. Once I got it I found that it lived up to its reviews: it is VERY lightweight, small enough for me to take every day to work without feeling awkward because it's too big and bulky, yet big enough to carry everything I need for the day, be it a day at the office or a day hiking over the hills. It's also big enough to hold most of my shopping if I go to the market on the way home from work, and strong enough to hold up without a problem when it's as full as I can pack it with very heavy groceries. And the shoulder straps are padded enough that its comfortable to carry on my back, no matter how much I've stuffed into it. Unfortunately, the reviews that complained about the annoying flap of cloth that covers the zipper of the top pocket and keeps getting stuck in it were also right on target. If I didn't remember to lift the flap out of the way before I open or close the zipper (and I usually don't) , it invariably got caught in the zipper and I had to work it loose. Extremely annoying. Then, a few weeks ago, my backpack got lost on a trip and though it was eventually found and returned to me, it came back so badly mangled that there was no way to repair it. So back I went to Amazon to look for another backpack. After wasting a lot of time looking at different backpacks and reading the specs and reviews of the likely ones, I came to the conclusion that even with the irritating zipper issue, this is still the best backpack for me. So I bought it again and when it arrived I discovered that it had been upgraded and while it still has all the features that I like so much, it no longer has that horrible zipper flap!!! This is definitely a 5 star product!

I bought our first Outlander 5 or 6 months before a planned trip to Italy. I chose orange with the plan that our 11 year old would carry that as his day-pack, and it would help us to see him in a crowd. I bought the pack so early because we intended to put it to the test before we ever left US soil. I didn't want to find out in the middle of a 15 day trip that it couldn't hold up. Anyway, over the course of 6 months pre-trip, the bag was "tested" by all 3 of our teenage boys. They would each "borrow" it from each other claiming that mom wanted it tested and that each boy had a different application in which to test it. For most of the 6 month period, it was a book bag for my 19 y.o. who attends college but lives at home. He really loaded it up. Everybody liked the bag. Durable, but totally scrunchable. How did it do in Italy? Well, first of all, we were sufficienctly happy with our 6 months of testing on the Orange bag, that we bought an addition black one (we also bought tickets for both of the other boys to join us on our trip). So, an Orange Outlander, and a Black Outlander each took a trip to Turkey and Italy with 2 adults and 4 boys ages 11 to 19. We walked 6-12 miles each day. Most days we used the bags as daypacks, but several times, they were filled to absolute maximum capacity. The bags fold into a nice small, weightless pouch, and we made sure they were with us at all times, so that we could expand and fill them if we shopped. The bags are still in great shape, and 2 of the boys have gone back to using them as their daily backpacks. Highly recommend.

I loved this bag visually when I received it in the mail one week before vacation. Its very lightweight and small and fit well in the luggage.I used it everyday on on my Disney vacation.It held a lot. I usually had 2 tshirts, 2 cooling towels, a bag of frozen water (3 bottles)., sunscreen, wallet, phone, charger pack, snacks, water fan and camera. It was little heavy from the water but that weight decreased during the day as I used it up. The bag was strong and also waterproof. It sustained the daily thunderstorms in Florida and kept everything dry. The only complaint I had was the 2 front zippers kept getting caught on the fabric and jammed every time I opened them. My wallet and camera were in those pockets. It drove me crazy. I held up lines trying to get my money and missed some photo opportunities. It would take 6-7 times to get it going back and forth before it would clear. It looks like there is too much very thin fabric (umbrella material). The larger zipper section is fine because it is flat. I tried to switch my stuff around but no matter what I had I had trouble opening those 2 pockets. It was so frustrating. A brand new bag and I'm scared it was going to rip the first time I use it. I wrote the this seller and they said thanks for letting us know and we'll pass on the the manufacture. I feel they should have given me some kind of credit or replaced the bag in general in case it was defective. What if it does rip? $20 for this bag??

L'ho usato in una vacanza al mare usandolo tutti i giorni per andare in spiaggia. Nel complesso l'ho trovato utile, leggero ma molto resistente, cerniere fatte bene e concepito bene nella distribuzione delle tasche. Si può usare tranquillamente per gite fuori porta di una giornata sia al mare che in montagna, e una volta ripiegato è molto compatto e facilmente trasportabile.
