Does this product meet the safety guidelines for food grade or food safe manufacturing and packaging in the US? I don't see it anywhere on this page.

The silica gel desiccant is not FDA Approved, but it is toxic free and can also be used for food.

The packets I got have clear plastic instead of paper exteriors. Can the silica gel work through plastic?

I reordered this product and instead of the paper packets I received plastic packets. I did some research and it looks like the plastic is fine. It supposedly absorbs moisture through extreme micro holes in the plastic but won't let water in. I also read that the little orange gel beads included in each packet will turn green to indicate when they have become saturated.

How do you recharge these in the oven or microwave?

It says on the information in the Amazon information: “Reactivated by exposing in the sun for 3 hours or put in a microwave oven and heat to 80-100 ℃, microwave at DEFROST with several mins, oven temp setting < 250°F, recharge as instruction, take out every 5 minutes to observe the color.”

These are great

These are great little packets to throw in your tool box to protect against moisture. It is also a plus that they are reusable. Just pop them in the oven on a low heat for a few hours to dry them out and they are ready to be used again and again.
