Director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Lifeforce) pays affectionate tribute to various classic horror movies in this tale of two teenage couples who spend the night in a sleazy carnival funhouse. On her first date with Buzz (Cooper Huckabee, True Blood), Amy (Elizabeth Berridge, Amadeus) disobeys her father and goes to the carnival with Richie (Miles Chapin, Hair) and Liz (Largo Woodruff, The Ladies Club)…but their first date may end up as their last. After witnessing a murder, the four terrified teens are trapped in the maze of the Funhouse and stalked by a real monster: a horribly deformed killer who lurks among the freakish exhibits to butcher them one by one! Also starring Sylvia Miles (Midnight Cowboy) and Kevin Conway (Invincible) in three roles, The Funhouse features special makeup designs by the ingenious Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London, Ed Wood). Review: The best The Funhouse has ever looked! - The Funhouse is known for its grit. That's probably what makes it so appealing to horror fans. However, it cleans up nicely for 4K. Though the picture quality is vastly improved, where it really shines is during the funhouse interiors. That's when the surround audio really comes into play. The packaging details the mix as mono. However, there was a 5.1 option on the disc menu, so surround audio elements were coming from my rear channels. Most notably during the scenes that took place inside the funhouse ride. Since the images are sharper than ever, some scenes felt "new" as if I hadn't seen them before. All around, it's a dark movie, but 4K has really brightened it up. The director commentary existed before on another issue of this film. During it, Hooper is just going through the motions with a moderator, so it's a little lacking. Granted this was before his passing, and maybe his memories of the movie were fuzzy at the time. If you are a Tobe Hooper fan, pick this up. You won't be disappointed. Also, get the latest 4K release of Poltergeist, his other directorial effort. It too looks the best in ages! Review: Incredible movie - This movie is amazing and a true classic of slasher history. If you’re into 80s slasher I highly recommend picking this up! Really awesome packaging! Shout! Factory really outdone themselves with this one!

4k Looks really good,fantastic movie.
Not the greatest 4k of a classic horror film, but still is really good and an improvement over the scream factory blu ray.

Great acting and horror movie.
The plot is very good and the acting in It are great. The picture quality is excellent for a older film. It’s good and the film isn’t grainy like most films can be when they are transferred from the negative.

Wait for it to go on sale!
I initially passed on this release because it is one of the first, in a ever growing streak, Shout Factory 4Ks that skimped on upgrading and adding an Atmos track. It dropped below $20 and decided to go ahead a pick it up.The 5.1 gets the job done but when they want to have us pay a premium price to upgrade to UHD there should be more of an upgrade. The video quality isn’t reference quality and I don’t think there is much of a noticeable difference from its previous blu ray. But it’s sharp and is pleasing enough to the eye. The movie itself isn’t great but also isn’t a complete waste of time. They didn’t put a lot of effort into this release and you should definitely wait for it to go on sale before you buy it!

Freakish!
Four adolescents spend a night at a travelling fairground. The atmosphere is somewhat disquieting the whole time. Attractions include freak shows featuring deformed animals such as a two headed cow. A freakish fortune teller. They take a ride on the funhouse and decide to stay inside after the funfair closes. While inside the funhouse they witness a murder through the gaps in the floorboards. To their distress they find themselves trapped inside the ride. Brilliantly acted. A rather disturbing movie due to it’s seedy vibe. Made by filmmaker Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). A fabulous 4K release. A must have for any horror fan.

Great transfer!
Another amazing 4k release from Scream factory. I wish it had a dolby atmos track but the 5.1 is still good. Forgot how compelling and creepy the movie is... get it if you haven't seen it... or even if you have!
