I bought these gates for my dogs. I have 2 clever puppies. And they will test a gate and find the flaws! These look good and are not bulky at all! They lock with a quarter turn of the knob and unlock by lifting the know and a quarter turn back. Very easy. Comes with a great cut sheet that you can tape to your wall and know EXACTLY where to place your screws. 8 screws (supplied) and your done! I don't know if they are intended for outside but I have one on my deck to keep my buddies safe and in eye range and I have not had any issues at all. It's gone through all 4 seasons (Live in the NorthEast) along the shore so you can't ask for any worse conditions and they still work and look as good as new. I gently hit it with the 'ol pressure washer and it looks good as new after a super nasty pollen season! I have no hesitation when I tell you to BUY BUY BUY!! Just come back and thank me later. My Corgies have tested the gate. They can't sneak under or push through! But my lord did they try. They thought I bought another pushover chocho gate like the last time. My Bucky and Pepper have given up on trying to defeat these gates ! Plus these are just a few screws. So no major permanent damage to deal with when you feel it's time for them to come down. Some gates are so overcomplicated and wreck your home installing or removing them. These gates have stood the test of time.

I wanted a gate to keep my dog out of two carpeted bedrooms but I wanted them to be easily moved out of the way when not needed. As my dog is older and not so determined to get to a place anymore, I didn't need anything super sturdy. I had two of the more traditional kind of gates (kept in a doorway by tension, not hardware) but when I didn't need them they had to lean against a wall or try to fit them in a closet. I wanted something that just "disappeared." These retractable gates fit my requirements perfectly! They are very easy to install. They come with a template for the mounting hardware placement but I found it easier to just measure. They are easy to open and close with two hands but are a little awkward, but doable, with one hand. I cannot speak to how durable or resistant they would be for someone or something that was determined to get through (or over) them, but they work well as a deterrent. I have had them installed for about 4 months now and open and close them nearly every day and they still work great. I would definitely recommend these and I would buy them again if the need arises.

This is the most amazing baby/dog gate. The fact that it retracts, and is out of the way, is awesome! You can lock it in place, so there is not give, or keep it unlocked for some stretch, if you need to step over it. Would buy again!!

Works great! Covers our large entry way and keeps our baby away from the stairs. Super easy to use. Just make sure you don't just let go of it. It may retrack to fast and cause damage on the wall/door frame

I have to admit, I didn't originally get this for my soon to be 1 year old son, I actually got this for my dog. My dog has been house-trained for years and doesn't go upstairs, but when he has a "booboo tummy" and no one is home, he would panic and jump the tiny gate at the bottom of the stairs, sneak upstairs where everything is carpeted, and unleash the smelliest destruction humanly possible onto the off-white carpet of our guest bedroom. He likes to eat wood chips, and this causes him intestinal distress. It doesn't seem to distress HIM too much, but it certainly distresses me. After the second time this happened, I decided I was not going to be going through this hell again, and decided to upgrade our gate system. I tried out a metal swing gate, but it was too hard to open and close. I decided on these fences because a girlfriend of mine has these and my son's daycare uses them, and they seem so easy to use. I am so glad I got these ones. They were super easy to install, and I put them at the top and bottom of the stairs, and the entrances to the bar room (preparing for toddler stage). I love how you can just let them roll up and be out of the way when you don't need them, and they're easy to close off when you need them. They'll be super useful when my son is more mobile. And added bonus, my dog can't step over it, so my upstairs carpets are SAFE!

UPDATE: Company reached out and sent us the pieces we needed to make our gate funtion again. This gate has a warrantee, thank goodness! They were quick to help us after we left our review which I really appreciated. So far, so good! Thanks guys! I moved this review from 2 stars to 3 stars. ORIGINAL: Came on time, easy to install. We have 2 on our staircase (one on top, one on bottom). Our toddler (not unruly or highly active) managed to break the piece that mounts to the wall that the gate attaches to. I have not been able to contact the seller or find replacement pieces through the seller, so we're considering buying a universal (fingers crossed) replacement piece. I've also tried to work with the Amazon Assistant without any luck. We'll try customer service next and see what can be worked out. Pictures are included with our cute and not insane/large toddler with a before and after. We think he pulled down on it and it cracked and then broke off. We had family over and plenty of adults were present and saw it happen, therefore we know he was not acting crazy or even yanking on it. The gate itself was attached to the piece when it broke. We thank God that it didn't hit him. It did take out a piece of the wall as it retracted so we can vouch that the retracting feature REALLY works. All in all, good gate, poor plastic attachments. And poor customer service.

These gates have been my #1 choice. Used on top and bottom of stairs. Also, preferred for the deck. Love that I can open them up and you don’t even know they are up. This gate is several years old and still works like new. Made it through 2 babies and used for dogs as well. Great value and durability. Super safe and easy to use.
