Inspiring Cookbook for Active Lifestyles
As someone who loves running and exploring plant-based recipes, The No Meat Athlete Cookbook has been a game changer. The recipes are creative, full of flavor, and use whole food ingredients that are easy to find. I’ve especially enjoyed the "Superfood Smoothies" section for quick pre-run fuel and the hearty dinner ideas for recovery meals. The instructions are clear, and the tips for meal prepping are super helpful for busy weeks. While I’m not a strict vegan, this book has made incorporating more plant-based meals into my routine simple and enjoyable.

Simple & Approachable, yet Innovative & YUMMY!
Love This Book! I am a vegan athlete of 7 years and the owner of countless cookbooks, and I have to say, this book is one of my favorites! What I appreciate so much about Matt Frazier’s approach to veganism is his broad appeal, making vegan recipes accessible to newbies, simple for busy athletes, and interesting enough to keep long time vegans from falling into a food rut. Sometimes I feel like it’s all been done before in the vegan recipe world…smoothies, overnight oats, salads…blah, blah, blah. This book still manages to innovate, and especially shines with loads of savory breakfast recipes, flexible recipe 'blueprints', DIY sports drinks and protein mixes, go-to sauces, international influences, and easy, satisfying desserts. This book also stands out for practical tips on implementing recipes into our daily lives with tips like the ‘Double-Up Method’ of meal prep. I've actually cooked successfully from this book, unlike many cookbooks that sit on my shelf gathering dust because they are just too complicated or overwhelming. The recipes are diverse, so you will find small amounts of oil, sugar, and gluten. However, the recipes are also easily adaptable, with tips on substitutions to make recipes conform to individual dietary preferences.

Good information, not ready to endorse the recipes yet...
There is some good information in here and I really like the idea of what the author is saying. I got this book because I want to get some good, balanced nutrition without relying on meat for protein. I don't mind eating meat--that's fine, but I prefer to be more plant-based when convenient. There is a good portion of this book that describes the philosophy and goals behind the author's cooking style and I found that useful and informative. Just that fact is worth a few stars. Most of the book is recipes. That's really what I got it for. Unfortunately, the first thing I cooked out of it was a real bomb--nobody in my family would eat more than a few bites of it. I understand that all cook books are going to have things that are better/worse than others, so I needed to try and get myself to choose another, but I was feeling a little gun-shy. After a brief waiting period, we tried 3 more and had better luck. The quinoa confetti salad was a real hit, although we all thought the accompanying dressing had a bit too much cumin (that's OK--the salad by itself was delicious--no dressing necessary). The nut crusted tofu was also delicious, especially with a bit extra of the lemon-mustard sauce. My favorite thing about the book is that the recipes all follow the philosophy that a healthy food is one that packs as many nutrients in while leaving as many calories out as possible. That's not to say everything is low-calorie, but every calorie is a good, healthy one. There is a lot of plant-based protein and when you eat like this, you can loose fat without starving yourself. ...or at least, it's a method that has been working for me. The flavor profile is one that will likely be a bit less familiar to the average American household, so I don't know that I would recommend it to parents with kids, unless you are ready to put up with fussing about dinner and/or making a more kid-friendly side dish, but for me, they may be different, but they are still good and I'm going to try some more.

BEST COOKBOOK EVER!
Wow, I pre-ordered this book and I was excited, but as I started reading it, I realized this is the best cookbook ever for anyone trying to eat healthy, nutrient-dense, and delicious foods. My husband and I have literally been eating only recipes out of this cookbook since we received it in late May. Matt and Stepfanie offer some blueprint recipes that allow you to use any foods you have on hand, which work great even if you're not that experienced at cooking. Also, the sauces and dressings really allow you to make boring dishes super tasty. I love their oil free options and all of the nutrition and vegan kitchen facts will help anyone succeed at a more Whole Foods, plant-based diet. I recommend this cookbook to everyone, even meat & dairy eaters--you'd be surprised how good bean balls and spaghetti and vegan fudge can actually be! No Meat Athlete podcast and blog helped me evolve from a vegetarian to a vegan and now a whole foods plant-based eater. This cookbook seals the deal, and I'll never go back to basing my diet on anything else except for whole plant foods!

Great Recipes
I really liked the way this book was put together and immediately found several recipes that I can't wait to try. I have a lot cookbooks, but since health problems made a plant-based diet advisable, I'm starting to collect books that offer main courses and filling side dishes without meat or too much fat. It's been a couple years now on the new food strategy, but I'm coming to be quite satisfied and happy with my meatless options. I always loved mexican food and tacos work great. I never used to eat smoothies, but now see these are a marvelous and delicious daily addition. I'm very pleased with this book, the amount of images, the recipes and quality of the printing.

Love This Cookbook!
I bought this book finally because I am a vegan gym rat that wanted to start cooking more. I was already cooking all my meals at home, but I was eating the same foods over & over & I’m not that creative with my seasonings. I am so glad I bought this cookbook because it showed me so many more foods that I could be eating & all different types of seasonings I could be using for my food so I am not eating the same stuff. The recipes are easy & delicious. I like that is has sauces & drinks in addition to entrees & sides. I recommend any vegan athlete to buy this book. It really encourages you to get more creative & helps you cook better!

Disappointing
The recipes in this cookbook are pretty good, but being an 'athlete' cookbook I didn't find enough information on protein. I am very active between running and weight lifting and when I quit eating animal products my protein intake went WAY down. After a couple of months I gained weight, started to get dizzy headaches and wasn't recovering from a calf injury the way I should. So I focused more on how much protein I was taking in and within a few days my dizzy headaches went away, my weight dropped and my calf is finally starting to feel better! Unfortunately I will no longer continue on a completely plant-based diet. I'm switching to a vegetarian diet that will include eggs and some dairy. If you are an active athlete don't buy into the "too much protein" push. You NEED more protein when you live an active lifestyle!

I Love this book
Every single recipe I have cooked from this book has been outstanding and I must have cooked at least a third of them already. The recipes are simple but deliver complex tastes and are really satisfying. The book has a great section at the front outlining all the latest research on plant based nutrition in an easy to digest fashion. Although the book is called no meat athlete, the recipes are definitely not just for those who love to exercise (although I do and they are great for that) it works well as a family cook book and we cook from this book a couple of time every week and our 5 & 7 year old love the meals from this book. I have about 50 cook books - honestly if I have to save 3 in an emergency this is definitely one i would grab!!!
