Solid Music for ears that can Hear!
I am to old to have been to a rave, so most of this music and the artist who make it are fairly unknown to me. So I expected one thing from Nicollete based on Massive Attacks Protection. Like many others I got something else, though I have to say that this time I liked the surprise. Yes, I heard people howl about drum and bass for one reason or another, but that's because so many people have demonstrated how "bad" it can get. Nicollete brings us only the "cream" of a very diverse crop called by many names(techno,trip-hop,drum and bass, down tempo, it's all rather confusing to me). I 'll bypass the labels and get down to the music. It's adventurous in a time when major record moguls want anything but adventure, and fortunately Nicollete leaves the mixing to Plaid, the production duo who also contribute to this mix. I'll admit to having "problems" relating to Aphex Twin, but over all this is a pretty daring project done well(even if you didn't care for the monolouge) and well worth the money.

Ex-Massive Attack-singer rocks on DJ-job
I loved Nicolette her work with Massive Attack, and I LOVED this DJ-album. It's not anything like, by example, a Laurent Garnier-mix, but it's also really great. She's using a lot of different styles. There's a lot of sort of hardcore-music in there, but I like things that are different, so... The Nicolette-tracks are also great, especially "A Single Ring".

The mix of sounds were quite versatile. Hopefully with some of the inspiration I recieved from massive attack & artists who have worked with them I'll be able to come up with some new sounds as well. It would be nice to some day have one of my CD's analized here five to six years from now. I want to take music to the next level like Tricky, & Portishead did!

where is the MIXING on this MIX CD?
I am extremelely disappointed with this DJ Kicks mix. I know the DJ Kicks series is for DJs to be creative and have fun with playing the music they really like. However, another big point in the series is the concept of MIXing. This is a mere compilation, joined here and there by music courtesy of Plaid and occassional vocals by Nicolette herself. I expect mix CDs to flow from track to track. Granted there are always high and low points and the occasional mix during breakdown, however each track here basically ends before the next begins. I honestly bought this CD from the variety I saw on the track listing: CJ Bolland, Roni, UK Apache, and Aquastep to name a few. And what's with 'Original Nuttah' only being barely over two minutes? The few pros of this CD are: the fact that it's a 2xCD @ price of one; CJ Bolland's 'Nightbreed' is amazing; the co-existance of Roni Size alongside Richard D. James, and Shy FX two doors down [even if they're not 'mixed' the way I'd like]. I may still buy this CD if it were $10 and I felt like being schizophrenic because this is what it feels like--harcore one moment, down to experimental noise, leftfield, then a rootsy jungle track. Do not buy this CD if expect flowing consistency .. or if you are driving and have a habit or road rage. Can anyone say severe attitude issues?
