How do they compare in build quality to thorogoods or Red wings? Any more stylish Pro timberlands?

I can tell you from personal experience that these particular boots hold up better than the boots I used to purchase at the Red Wing store for $275.00. The Red Wings are comfortable and well built, but the leather is soft, it rips, and the soles wear down quickly. You can get them resoled but I never had the leather last long enough to warrant getting them resoled. I would get 9 months from a pair on average. One year I was low on funds and tried these Timberland PRO boots. It was a slow time in construction, so I wasn't wearing them 5 or 6 days a week 10 hours a day, but they lasted me three years. I bought a second pair, wore them daily, and got 18 months out of them. They were beat looking but still comfortable with some tread left. I'd say these boots are easily good for a year, 10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. Invest in toe guards if you want to get the most life out of these boots, especially if you kneel a lot or rest things on the toe for leverage.

How do the sizes on these compare to their safety toe boots? Would I be the same size in soft & metal toe?

Do these run big compared to sneakers?

No. People often order boots too small for some reason. I wear 10.5 wide in under armour running shoes and the same in timberlands. Timberlands fit me the same every time. Ive had about a dozen pairs in different styles and i always do 10.5 wide which is my shoe size and they always fit

I would have to say 1 1/2 size difference. If a woman normally wears an 8 in women's, you should probably order 6.5 in these men's boots.

Fits a little large size one down

The boot ran a little big. I usually wear a 7.5us but ended up getting a 7 instead. This boot is really comfortable and is good for the price.

Otherwise it fits. The shank/sole is a bit weaker than i’d like. Unfortunate as i love timberland boots. Will try to post an update at the end of the season

Would be great BUT sole keeps separating

I bought these boots at the end of 2010. The first pair needed to be returned due to misaligned stitching. The replacement pair looked fine and felt great on the feet. Easily the best fitting, most comfortable boot I've ever worn. To this day I'll wear these instead of other shoes just for running around in. The problem that keeps these from being a good buy is that the soles easily and constantly want to separate from the bottom of the boot. The soles will start to split and the crack will continue to grow if left alone. The only way I saved them is by using super glue on the soles, clamp them together overnight and that seems to work. I don't know if gorilla glue superglue is just that good or what but it does work. This isn't about time or wear and tear either. The first splits appeared within a couple of months of use. So far since late 2010 I've had to glue these boots back together three separate times. So be warned. While these are very comfortable boots buy them with a bottle of superglue as you are going to need it to get your money's worth out of these boots.

Runs small, go up in size

If you are between sizes in shoes, then order up a half size. Normally I'm between a 9 and a 9.5. First time I ordered a size 9, shoes were snug, toes got pinched and caused undue discomfort. Got a 9.5, feels great. Toes have plenty of room now.

Timberland Pitboss - Poor Workmanship

I returned these boots. The stitching through the front of soles (the only place in the soles) where through and tied off on the surface of the sole not in the groove. Very poor workmanship.
