MXR Sub Octave Bass Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal

I'm a big fan of using the right tool for the right job, so pedals that have multiple functions don't end up on my pedal board. But this is an exception.I bought this to emulate synth bass lines from computer generated nonsense that makes it's way onto my playlist.Find yourself trying to add some depth and dynamics to a Disney song, or Billie Eilish? This pedal really does the trick. A touch on the Sub-Octave, a touch of Fuzz, add Chorus, then Compress the hell out of it. And you'll drop beats like a Skrillex whatever.

I’m a pedal junky. Unsatisfied with how many of my guitar-based pedals didn’t work for bass I’ve been trying MXRs and I’m SO glad I did! Disappointed with the bass octaver and chorus pedals, I tried one more time with this, their Bass Envelope Filter, and Bass Overdrive and I couldn’t be happier! I’ll stick to the Fuzz here, obviously.The two-option fuzz is worth the price of admission; either will keep you sonically experimenting for quite a while. But then add in the octave options and you are playing the serious hell-raising sounds you always imagined you could play but never found!Unlike many guitar fuzz pedals that say they work with bass, they’re not designed to work with bass and that’s important. Many of those type sound muddy when used with bass frequencies. Not MXR. This pedal (and the other two I mentioned) are crisp and distinctive even in the haze of their own distortions.If I could only buy one pedal for my bass, this would be the one (so far!)

I really like the sounds this thing makes, independent fuzz and octave controls make for infinite variety of sound possibilities, but a couple of annoying build things: the lights are too bright and the pots stick on my unit. Also it doesn't sit flat - which seems bizarre to me. The battery cover underneath is raised so when you press the switches, the whole thing tips forward and rocks around. I'm going to have to put rubber pads on the four bottom corners to stop it doing that. Just crazy. I can get over those things, but I shouldn't have to. If you are really serious about crafting the perfect fuzz or the perfect octave you might want to invest in independent pedals, but for me this is my first foray into those things so a two-in-one pedal that has awesome sound and a lot of flexibility of control is great right now!

This is a fun toy. There are a number of voice options available. I’ll have it sounding kind of vintage like and then change some settings and have it sounding unholy as hell.

Absolutely love this pedal. Just the amazing fuzz tones from the two different fuzz circuits make it worth the money, then you throw in the octave and Wow!! The octave tracks better than any I've tried, even down to the B string on my 5er.

The pedal showed up broken out of the box and made a hissing sound. Dunlap made me jump through a ton of hoops, then I had to pay for shipping to return it, 4 weeks to repair, they confirmed it was bad and shipped it back, no refund on my shipping costs.They made me send in audio of the problem, which I can understand. I had to answer literally 20+ questions and troubleshooting steps, and then they made me take a picture of a voltmeter on the battery I was using, even after I told them I tried three different brands new 9v batteries and a 9v plug.Brand new item was broken, and I had to pay money to make it right. That's bad business. I'll never go MXR again, I can tell you that.
