OTTOLOCK HEXBAND Cinch Bike Lock, Grey, 30 Inch

Rolls up tight and fits in a jersey pocket or saddle bag perfectly. Pretty easy to pick—though not as easy as some beefier bike locks I’ve picked for fun or because we forgot the code—and cut tests show it’s not great, but it should prevent any walk-by thefts if you pop into a cafe or something.

I fell for the marketing lies on this device, I was hoping for a lightweight reliable lock that I could use for quick stops...but after spending 5 minutes trying to get it to even lock one every time I have attempted to use it, I say this is a complete piece of garbage. 90% of the time when you "lock it" you can just give it a yank and it will unlock and you can just pull the lock off the bike. Neat feature?! Further, there is evidence out there from the Lock Picking Lawyer that Ottolock has done nothing to improve the locks resistance to being cut with $15 tin snips.

Fabulous lock. It is quite light and very strong. Certainly I would not lock up an out of eye sight $5,000 bicycle but it give one great confidence when you stop at the coffee shop or run in to mail a package. While it's venerability it to snips few petty thieves have those. I bought one for my son so he can lock his bike while at school and it is easy for him to operate. I would highly recommend it.

I had one of the 1st generation Ottolocks which worked very well for coffee stops on club rides. I typically ride 3x per week and after a year & a half or so the lock starting jamming while in use and eventually would not unlock at all or only with great great difficulty. I tried silicone lube which seemed to help for awhile but then the problem recurred and I finally had to give up on the lock. Several members of my bike club had the same issue and were unable to unlock their bikes after a coffee stop. They had to find a maintenance person to cut the lock, which was a royal pain and obviously destroyed the Ottolock. My guess is that an internal part in the lock mechanism was under-designed and simply wore out prematurely. I will say that the locks did hold up pretty well to bolt cutters & tin snips, i.e., it took a minute or two to cut through them which is pretty good for such a lightweight lock and IMO definitely more secure than a typical cable lock - and also more compact. So despite my disappointing experience with the 1st generation Ottolock I still like the concept and decided to bite the bullet and try one of their new & allegedly improved Hexband models. So far I like it - it’s now thicker for improved cut resistance but not that much heavier than my first Ottolock. I sincerely hope the Hexband model lasts more than two years and doesn’t start jamming shut. If so I’ll be inclined to bump my rating up to five stars (however, if the problem recurs then I’ll likely change my rating to not recommended and start looking for another option for coffee stop lockups).

Disappointing. For this price I would expect a better lock mechanism. They number wheels have clunky mechanics and the mechanism just isn't all that great. The cable part, idea, and style are great but I think the locking barrel is super cheap.

I loved that the lock was light, compact, and easy to use. It gave me peace of mind when I would go into a grocery store, for instance, as I could quickly and easily lock the bike to a bike stand or sign post. As per the product literature, this lock is not the most secure as it could be cut using power tools or bolt cutters quite easily but for its weight and compactness it’s a great option for bicycle touring where you just need something to deter the temptation of rolling the bike away. Loved the product.

Good: Light and convenient. Combination change is relatively simple. Bad: Needs oil for the tumblers to move smoothly. Strap is stiff and kinks easily. Locking mechanism only seems to engage on knurled rubber making it super low security.

I bought an OTTOLOCK a couple of years ago and set the combination, but we never actually used it until recently. Unfortunately, by that time we couldn’t remember the code we had set — and because OTTOLOCKs are designed for high security, there’s no way to reset the combination without knowing it. We thought this expensive lock was a total loss. I decided to reach out to OTTOLOCK support just to see if anything could be done. To my surprise, their team was incredibly kind, understanding, and responsive. They offered to have us send the lock in so they could reset it for us. We mailed it to them, and instead of simply resetting it, they sent us a brand new lock — completely at their expense! This was well beyond what they were obligated to do, especially since we were far past the warranty period and the issue was entirely our fault. Their generosity and care really blew me away. It’s rare these days to find a company that stands behind their customers like this. OTTOLOCK not only makes a great product — they’re a great company run by great people. Highly recommended!

the combination mechanism is cheap and hard to work with. I would not recommend.

Easy and useful

So far so good , but relying on the reviews that say these are very hard to cut through. Easy to pack , curled up on itself , very light. Ideal !

An und für sich ist der Ansatz ein leichtes Schloss mit Abstrichen bei der Aufbruchsicherheit zu entwickeln sehr gut. Hier gibt es nämlich nicht sehr viel. Gerade für Rennradler, die Hunderte von Euros ausgeben, um ein paar Gramm am Rad zu sparen. Die Widerstandsfähigkeit ist für mich vollkommen ok. Auch wenn man es mit einer guten Blechschere, die meines Wissens nicht zur Grundausstattung eines fahraddiebes gehört, schnell knacken kann. Was mich tatsächlich stört, ist der billige, nicht sauber rastende bzw. Sich permanent selbstverstellende Verschluss. Geht gar nicht für das Geld. Und nervt kolossal.

It's a good lock, easy to carry and more secure than cables. It is fairly resistant to bolt cutters, tin snips and hack saws but it can be cut in about 10 seconds with an angle grinder. Not for a long term lock up
