Definitely not what I expected
I should have paid closer attention to the reviewer who described this as more Callifornia - but I didn't know what that meant. well living in Texas I'm used to tex-mex, mexican, hispanic type recipes using tortillas. There are some very very different combos in this one. I buy cookbooks and sometimes get around to making something from them but also and most importantly I love reading through them. my rating isn't for the recipes (if I had to go by had they sound I'd rate it 2 or 3 I think) it's for the overall look and appearance and content of the book. I like color pics and recipes one to a page. This one wasn't colorful and was boring overall but it does have a lot of recipes and some very different ideas for stuffing a tortilla for foodies who are open to all sorts of ideas. For that I rate it 4 stars. It's a fairly thick book and I imagine I'd find some good ideas if I could enjoy sitting down and looking through this one - I have others that are more pleasant and have recipes that sound more appealing (looney spoons books, gooseberry patch, cooking light for instance are my usual type cookbooks)

Good Recipes
I owned this book a long time ago but must have gotten rid of it when I cleaned out at some point. I remembered a recipe in it and searched it and found it again. I bought copies for both my sons and read through one of them before I gave it to them. It really is full of delicious, easy to make recipes.

Well-Filled Tortilla not meant for Vegans
This book is adequate for meat lovers, but I was hoping for more variety to encompass those who prefer vegetables and gluten free. Will have to look quite closely to see what may be modified to fit those conditions. To be fair, this book never presented itself as meeting those needs and this one seems the most widely recognized for tortilla-ery. Now about making tortillas, a homemade press was easy to make and works well (from internet suggestions). Mixing the dough I fill a 1 cup measure with Masa Harina and pack it in with the back of a tablespoon so it is firmly packed, twice (2 cups). Mix in some salt, and lately have been adding a spoon or two of Chipotle Seasoninng from Sam's Club (cheap and in large container), stirring in well, then adding 1 cup water (using same cup) so it beads at top of rim. Then setting cup on counter add water to 1/3 cup mark (pretty exacting on this). Stir with fork, then mash with fork, finally using using hands to squeeze like mud pie. Roll out to long log, cut in half, half again, and again and again. Now there are 16 evenly sized pieces. Press one after another leaving one plastic on the bottom of each, make stack, and then peel and cook.

Creative tacos
I've started making my own homemade corn tortillas (I don't even use a press, just a rolling pin). Was looking for some creative fillings and this book is the answer. Some of the recipes do take some time to prepare, but most seem worth it. Fillings sound tasty and nutritious - everything from Thai shrimp to dessert concoctions. No photos but great descriptions and anecdotes. I would recommend for anyone looking to step out of the typical ground beef or chicken strips fillings.

Meh...
There's a good variety of recipes here, but unfortunately, only a few of these caught my attention. As the name of the book implies, the concentration here is on fillings. That's fine from this standpoint as that's what I was expecting. There's only 3 recipes for tortillas, which has been noted by other reviewers. It's also worth noting again that these aren't really traditional recipes. I understand completely the reviewer who mentioned this book was California. I would agree with that. The authors mention more than once that they do not use lard, and some of the recipes use red wine which has not been a part of any Mexican recipes I've made in the past. The chapter on on salsas and toppings really made me laugh. It actually contains "recipes" for shredded lettuce and cheese, chopped tomatoes and avocado, sliced jalapenos, etc. If you are looking for something different, you might enjoy this, but don't expect traditional recipes. I can't recommend the book otherwise, and it will probably end up in the donation stack for me.

well filled tortilla cookbook
great cookbook w/ lots of creative ideas for tortilla based meals. Definitely not for the authentic hispanic cuisine purist as it deviates quite a bit from authentic mexican/south american meals in my experience. There are many delicious ideas none the less. I purchased this w/ a tortilla press and it contains a few recipes for tortilla dough. I am very excited to try some of these recipes in home made tortillas.

tasty varieties in the recipes
I have begun making my own tortillas - corn and quinoa especially. The recipes are from all over the world and quite interesting. The foods, of course, are adaptable to any kind of sandwich wrap which makes the book more useful than if one was limited only to the tortilla.
