Weruva Classic Cat Food, Variety Pack, Paw Lickin' Pals Wet Cat Food, 3oz Cans (Pack of 24)

I got the Paw Lickin’ Pals Variety Pack for my two cats, and they like it. It includes four flavors, Paw Lickin’ Chicken, Green Eggs & Chicken, Grandma’s Chicken Soup, and Nine Liver. The shredded, cage-free white-meat chicken looks like real food, which I appreciate. I like that it’s grain-free, gluten-free, and carrageenan-free with no artificial colors or preservatives. Knowing it’s produced in human food facilities with strict standards makes me feel even better about feeding this to my cats. If you’re looking for high-quality, nutritious cat food that your cats will actually eat, this is worth trying.

I pamper my 2 boys. They split a 3oz can of food (usually fancy feast grilled collections) in the morning, another in the evening, they get a midday snack, and always have a bowl of dry food to nibble on. Although a bit more expensive than the fancy feast, there was a time (during the pandemic I think) that these were cheaper, or maybe more available, so I gave it a try. The boys gobble this up! One of them likes extra liquid in the food and these cans have lots of broth for him, while providing generous helpings of solid food too. At first I didn't think they'd like the shredded meat, but they really do. Now I have these added to their variety.

My cats sort of seemed to like it, though the texture is like long, shredded chicken, so if your cat is picky about texture, this might not work. Regardless of texture, though, consider this before buying: 3. Most importantly: I chose Weruva after endless research in order to avoid having to pay through the nose for prescription food to help with my one cat's urinary tract disease, which is very common, especially in male cats. For cats with such a condition, the most important factors in food are low mineral content, especially phosphorus, magnesium and calcium, and in particular, a 1:1 or thereabouts phosphorus/calcium ratio. **I am referring here to the dry matter (DM) values/percentages, NOT the guaranteed analysis (GA) values/percentages given here in the product descriptions, which look deceptively a lot like 1:1 ratios. GA percentages and DM percentages are very different creatures, and the GA percentages do not tell you the full and vital info.** Even though Weruva has extensive nutrition info on their site, they do not list calcium content among the DM/dry matter values. I hadn't thought to check this before buying the food; I just assumed the calcium level would be ok since they talk a lot about caring for our pets' health. So I emailed them to find out the DM calcium info, and they were like "Yep, nope, all the info we have is listed." I just can't believe that could possibly be true, ESPECIALLY because urinary tract disease is suuuuper common in cats. It made me feel like they had the info but just didn't want to post it because maybe it's not such a good ratio -? Again, this would not have struck me as odd if it weren't for the fact that they have extensive content info on their site, both for as-fed values and dry matter values, and cover all crucial elements EXCEPT calcium. It's kind of glaring. Weruva had a situation in 2017 where their cat foods contained very low levels of thiamine, and hundreds of cats became severely ill and there were several deaths (easily googled). Between that and the reluctance to provide DM calcium info which is a vital factor for cats with urinary tract disease, Weruva is just not a company that I want to give my money to.

The ingredients are great, with protein being one of the firsts ingredients. Also this brand, so far, doesn't contain a bunch of crap that cats don't need to eat other then fish which I limit. The best thing is my finicky little felines like the food, flavors. The only issue is they seem to prefer minced and pate which this brand offers some of but mostly the food is shreds and chunks which my cats usually just like up the gravy and leave the rest or most of it. This is part of my regular subscribe and save list but I don't get it every order but rotate it in every few months. Oh and best of all not only as mentioned above this food is made of good ingredients. This brand also tends to be a bit over priced in my opinion.
