Yes, they are terra cotta colored. Yes, they are plastic. I purposely went looking for these exact planters. I bought four plus the dishes to go under them. I had a similar set I used for nearly ten years. They are sturdy and I like them a lot better than the real terra cotta ones. For one thing, they are a lot lighter. I bought 14 inch and 16 inch pots. I put river rock in the bottom for extra drainage. Throw in top soil and the plants and a real terra cotta pot gets pretty heavy. They are a lot easier to clean too. Also, the real ones absorb some of the water the plants need. Only advice, for a 14 inch pot, get the 13 inch or 11 inch tray. For the 16 inch pot, get the 15.

I needed pots for some roses I'd ordered, so I checked Amazon first and wasn't disappointed.The roses I needed to plant are small varieties, so these pots should give them enough room to develop.The classic shape and color of the pots appealed to me and the price was great. They come with several, good sized drainage holes already drilled in the bottom of each, so there's no need to pop out or drill any yourself.We lined each with a felt type fabric planting bag that had packing peanuts in the bottom to improve drainage so no potting soil will weep out of the drainage holes. They now contain the potted roses and are positioned in a river stone lined bed. Being lightweight, they can easily be moved. I didn't need saucers for them because they were for outside.If I had to voice a complaint, it would be that even though I ordered 4 of these, they were each packed individually in a large box and surrounded by brown packing paper. Unpacking the 4 boxes nearly filled my recycle bin for the week, yet the pots stack perfectly and 4 of them stacked was only a few inches taller than 1 alone is.

I have a tomatoe garden on the balcony of my apartment.These are lightweight and perfect. I use 12 for a whole crop.
