Best colapsible water bag for backpacking or emergency kit.
Well made and compatible with my MSR filter. The perfect take along bag for backpacking so you can stock up on water when you find a source but not have the bulk of a bottle all the time. Packs down in the main bag and comes with me on day hike excursions. The ring is sturdy enough to clip it to the outside of your pack when needed also. Works nicely in other application as well with the wide opening. You can find many aftermarket lids and adapters as well with the standard Nalgene threads. I even have a hydration adapter that will fit this. Large opening makes cleaning easer also.

A good water storage system for those looking to lighten their packs
First off, accurate specs are hard to come by on the 96 oz. bottle. Mine weighs in at exactly 2.9 ounces. For comparison, a conventional 1 quart (32 oz) Nalgene bottle weighs 6.2 ounces. So this bottle carries 3 times the water for less than half the weight. Impressive. So far, I have found these bags to be tough and reliable. I love the wide mouth setup and the fact that the bottle collapses as needed. The 96 ounce size is probably overkill for the average hiker, but I like having the capability to carry a large quantity of water without having to carry a heavy container. It's also handy for filling up in the evenings for camp use. At some point I'll probably pick up the 48 oz. bottle too, for shorter excursions. At any rate, it's a good product. Recommended.

A sturdy canteen with a compact footprint
I have been using these Nalgene Canteens for years. I like it because it has a small footprint taking up only the space that the water takes, and compressing to a small size as it empties. It has a lid that is foolproof - never leaks. I also like the study handle making it easy to pick up & carry. I work outside & carry my drinking water with me. Although I use this as my main source of water when I'm outside, I also carry a smaller water bottle or sometimes a hydration pack such as Platypus that I refill from this large capacity Nalgene Canteen. When I take it to work or on a dayhike, I fill the lower quarter of the canteen with water and freeze it. Then I fill it up with water, slip it into my daypack, and have cool water all day! I also take this canteen on backpack & kayak expeditions. On a backpack, it's nice because it conforms into the space you put it into & you can carry 2 empties to fill when you're in camp but then collapse the next day. On a kayak, it lies flat on the bottom of the boat & that keeps it cooler as it's next to the water. Another big factor is this canteen doesn't add any taste to the water.

Water bag and "ice pack."
Not only will these hold a lot of water, they are also good for making impromptu ice packs because of the large opening at the lid. They are great for travel.

Give it a reasonable amount of care and it will last for many camping trips.
I have used this when weight was the top priority and water hard to find. At a nominal 3 liters one filling can last a day with care. Not totally bullet-proof however. Some care in folding and packing is recommended for best life. Definitely worth it to me to find replacements when I wear one out.

Perfect Canteen
Nalgene canteens are perfect for travel. We fill them up with the filtered water at home and take them on the road with us. We use them up before we end up buying bottled water at our destination. This is especially great if we are driving all day and get to a hotel late. We then at least have lots of good water to drink and use to make coffee in the morning, if needed. These containers hold a lot and don’t take up a ton of space. They are then obviously really small and compact once you are done using them. We have two and use them on all of our trips. We have never put alcoholic beverages in them for a trip be we have friends who have. They work great, but you’ll need to use them exclusively for one type of alcohol in the future. You don’t want gin flavored water or gin flavored vodka. Excellent price and shipping on Amazon!

Great!
2010/11/12/15 - Big Bend, 2010/11/12/19 - Grand Canyon, 2017 - Yellowstone, 2017 - Sawtooth Mountains, 2012/13/14 - Guadalupe Mountains, 2011/13 - Rocky Mountain National Park. Has absolutely worked every time, thus saving my life all the time. An must for Big Bend & Guadalupe Mountains where you carry all your water. The wide mouth opening makes it easy to fill from waterfalls & creeks. The ergonomics make it easy to pour into another container. When it's empty, it's day 3-4, you are tired from 30-40 rugged miles at 7-8-12,000 feet & it's time to go back to civilization...it is very light weight (2 ounces) and smashes down small. Also great for sunny day photo/video shoots. With the center hook on my tripod, I hang the bladder to add weight, then drink or rinse off after the hot day of shooting. I purchased a 3rd Wide Mouth Cantene for when I am not hiking solo.

Great, if you have realistic expectations
I have had both the 48 and 96 oz canteens for just over a year. The 96 has been babied, the 48 was abused. I have filled and frozen both to use as ice packs, and they did well as long as you use the fill line. The 48 oz finally sprung a dripping leak (about 1 drip per second) after I lent it to a friend and she clipped it to her pack on the way down a rock scramble. It was abraded by some rock, which led to the leak. I had previously dropped it from chest height several times, and it didn't break. That said, these are super light solutions to carry large quantities of water when you need it, and they collapse to be small and light when not needed.

Great, tough water carrier for camping, trekking
Have used this for a about 8 months now and so useful for when camping and trekking. Its pretty thick plastic but it does not show any signs of deterioration or fatigue in the folds. It folds up flat so can easily slide into my pack and holds a decent amount of water. A nice wide mouth for filling from streams too.
