Watercolor painting is difficult enough. I paint plein air as often as possible but until I retire I will have to paint from photos - like most artists do - but hesitate to admit. I like to draw everything freehand but I have to lightly sketch everything to make sure it 'fits' before I start painting-and that takes time. This tool allows me to make sure that I have some of the important aspects of the sizes and positioning of the things in the photo correct - right away - which saves so much time. No erasing! You can adjust the tool to different proportions like 1:1.25, 1:1.5, 1:1.75, 1:2, 1:3, etc. (I'm guessing these but you get the picture). This way, depending on the size of the photo, it's accurate with the size of paper you are painting on. My initial paintings with it worked out very well. The price is very reasonabe for the end result. This is a must have for artists - get one!

I bought this for measuring the proportions and transfer the scale from a photo to enlarge the object onto my painting. Very light weight to carry to plein air painting events. It fits easily into my brush holder.

This tool works as described and is a valuable tool for drawing and painting, making it easier to get dimensions correct. The only drawback is in the tool itself which has a cheap plastic plug to adjust the tool itself. Would try to get a metal plug in a similar tool by another company.

This is a very handy tool for scaling an image. However, if you require precise measurements, perhaps upgrade to the more precision metal versions.This works for me for what I'm currently doing, but just have to accept a bit of wiggle room.

I couldn't find one in any of our Hobby or Art Stores. I was very impressed with the delivery and the quality of the item. Made out of composite materials, it is very light. The I prefer this over the ones made of brass is that I can use them with my tablet or computer, they are not expensive, and I don't risk damaging the screen with a sharp metal device.
