Buy these and try them out! Most comfortable thing I've ever worn on all kinds of terrian and weather. I've had different styles throughout the years. Very durable. I still have them and they are all still wearable after constant heavy use. There will be a foot/body posture adjustment period as your ankles/foot have to support you without the aid of a boot support for example. If you have a high arches you probably will not like these on long distances, especially on concrete/gravel. They are not waterproof but they dry fast even while you're wearing them. No soggy feet and they keep your feet somewhat warm when they are wet. You can machine was them in cold water, NO HOT water and NO HEAT DRYING. It'll melt the glue of the sole etc., and start detaching from the upper part. Plus the heat will add a funk to your shoes very fast. Dry them on a floor heater vent is what I would recommend. Buy a size up and a size down of your normal shoe size to get the right fit you want. Try them with socks of different thicknesses to get the perfect fit and comfort.

I completed the 4 day Machu Picchu trail in these and am glad I chose these. Before I got these shoes, I did a few practice hikes in VA in regular hiking boots that I bought per usual recommendations - One size larger, hard toe cap, ankle support, gripping sole etc. Every time the hike went longer than 5 hours, I ended with sore feet or blue toes. I switched to these because: 1. They are much lighter than any other "regular" hiking shoes 2. Their 5 finger design and going one size larger means your toes will not reach the tip ever. 3. They have ankle support 4. They are fleece lined which meant I could use thinner lighter socks instead of the crew socks recommended for other shoes. My socks were adding enough layers. 5. I have used 5 finger shoes before and my feet love the natural freedom they gave me. 6. I do have a higher arch on my left foot but the flexibility of the shoe took care of the anomaly. I am a slow hiker and these did not bother me even after 10 hours of hiking. Of course when I stopped and met other hikers on the trail, they were a great icebreaker and many were impressed. A lot of things can go wrong during a 4 day hike and I am glad that these shoes were there to take care of the most fundamental need - protect feet while making it easier to hike. Pros: Lightweight Fleece lined Enough space for my extra ankle supports. Grippy sole. Talking point for others on the trail. Washer friendly. Cons: Not waterproof Newbies need to get used to these shoes and may take a couple of weeks of short walks.

I don't normally write reviews but thought I would chime in since there was so much differing info on the fit. Obviously everyones feet are different, so your fit and my fit might differ, but here goes. I am normally a 10.5 in merrells, runners and most shoes, though sometimes an 11. I measured my foot and heel to toe was 10.5 inches on left foot, 10 3/4 inches on right. I currently own an older pair of the leather kso in Kangaroo leather in 43, but decided to follow the stuff I read on Amazon and on the Vibram site and bought the 44 (10.5-11) and 45 (11-11.5) to see which would fit best. I also bought a pair of injinji socks to try on with these. Because it is Amazon and descriptions are often incorrect, these are listed as the Trek Ascent, which are discontinued and you can't really find anymore (I looked). These are actually the V-Trek insulated. After trying on inside, I found that the 44 fit me best, and so I found that they are in fact pretty true to size. They are a bit tighter with the socks on but not that much tighter--if you lean more toward 11 than 10.5, I would go with the 45. also, my toes are pretty proportional, meaning, big toe is the biggest, second toes is next and so on. They were a little tough to get on at first and found that the instructions that came in the box were helpful--don't put the heel on until all toes are seated and then wiggle your toes to move them into the slots, then put the heel on. Once they are on and you are walking, your foot will adjust to the right position. Took them out for a 4 mile hike today-this is what I found. They were a little painful in the toes at first but then they either stretched a bit or just broke in a bit and second half of hike they felt good. This is with no socks, 45 degrees, feet were perfectly warm. The insulation is pretty minimal and consists of some fleece on the inside parts of the shoes--just not in the toes. They are not waterproof. With even a little mud/water on the trail, your feet will get wet, but mine never got cold--I tried to avoid the mud. Now that I know I will keep them, I will probably give them a good spray with some camp dry or silicone. Won't make them waterproof, but might add a little protection. Trail was rocky and the sole was thick enough not to get any painful rock pokes as long as you don't step down too hard. Regarding grip--I was pleasantly surprised that they provided pretty good traction on packed dirt, dry leaves, hopping across rocks and walking down a grass hill. That's why I like the five fingers--you walk much lighter and it's easier to step lightly. Overall I like the shoes and will wear them in dry conditions on moderate hikes. If you haven't worn 5 fingers before--I just like wearing them--makes the walking or hiking more enjoyable for me.

I've worn 5 toe shoes for ten years. I originally tried them to correct a knee pronation I developed from having a hip replacement. They did in fact correct that problem, so I've worn them exclusively since that time. These are my second pair of the insulated variety and the superior of the two. I live in the Colorado mountains and have to do major snow removal every winter. These are as warm as any of the insulated work boots I've worn previously. I have Rynauds so my fingers and toes are always cold. These help. I would recommend keeping them coated with a good waterproofing spray.

Very snug fit. I should've went up in size but I usually like them fitted. I loved the vibrams for walking. These i don't like. They are not water resistant at all. The insulation does not work. They squeak very loudly and it's annoying. I bought them for the snowy winter and my feet were freezing, wet, squeaking, and very tight. This is my second pair and I'll be returning them. Hopefully they make some for the snow. I'm not sure what I'd use these for. They may keep me warm in the fall but I wouldn't want to deal with the squeaking.

I was sweating this because I owned and LOVED the previous and no longer available (as far as I can tell) insulated Vibrams. My huge hesitations for the last year have been, I always wear black (these are green) and I had NO IDEA what size to get. I ended up just ordering the smallest men's available. (I am a woman but my foot usually likes the men's version better). I ordered 8, the sent 8.5 which had Euro size 40. I usually get 40 [for lighter summer) or 41 (for sturder colder weather) but at urging from comments got the 42 in the previous insulated shoe. My 2cents on this is: this new shoes built in a way that makes it easier to get your whole foot in so the fact that there's insulation didn't make it hard to put on. It's also possible Vibram learned from feedback on the earlier version and made it more size appropriate. Time will tell and when I can land a pair in black I will probably choose size up to ensure socks are comfortable. This shoe has more additional 'shape' to it. Though I can still feel the ground and there's no padding, the's a stiff cardboard feeling stamped shape to it. My arch is solid from wearing Vibrams for 10+ years so it is not bothersome but it's u usual to feel this in a Vibram.

Have been eyeing to buy this Vibram shoes for quite some time. With the free shipping via Amazon, it gives me additional reason to buy. I bought three pairs and love every one of them. Can't wait to wear them. My existing two pairs (been two years) are still running good (though some wear and tear at minor places for one pair) - thus another three pairs to add to my collection. Had to order one size bigger (as recommended by Vibram website for the actual design). This pair too a long time to come. Was expecting this pair to come together with the other two, but came almost a month later.

This is the best track shoe I ever bought. Unfortunately, it was too small, and after 2 hours of walking, it started hurting my toes. I couldn't replace it as it was worn already, so I bought a bigger size and it solved the problem.
