You definitely want to mount these on the studs for strength/stability. We love the minimal look. Only takes a few screws and they’re hidden by the ‘stuff’ you put on the shelf, so no, I’d say they don’t ruin the wall as long as you mount them to studs.

do these come in a larger size? I'd like 10" deep please!!
