Q: To confirm, this does not have either ethernet or poe. can anyone prove otherwise? (just show a photo of the back of it would show if ethernet)

this unit has wireless set up. However, it is powered by a 110v dc adapter.

Q: Can you set the camera to take a photo when motion is detected?

Not sure - if you put a microSD card in, it has a really cool motion detection and record feature. Basically, it will (by default) take a 1 minute video if motion is detected and the camera is armed (optionally can be sound triggered) to the card and overwrite oldest if card gets full. You control the hot zones for motion with simple finger swipes on your mobile device (really cool feature) as well as motion sensitivity and whether or not you would like a notification sent to your phone. The only issue I have had is playback when not on my network (as in I am away form home) - I can watch live, but have not yet been able to playback the 1minute videos when I am alerted and remote - which lessens the viability of this feature

Q: Is this compatible with Samsung smartthings?

A qualified "yes". It can be integrated with alerts from Smartthings so that the camera starts recording. However motion alerts from the camera do not communicate back to the Smarthome monitor status screen. The camera shows up as a device on Smartthings and has a app that views the current video stream. The integration is very limited and expected a lot more integration from two Samsung products.
