Mulches very good
We have very mature, very large maple and ash trees on 1/3 acre and autumn is beautiful but produces many leaves. Mowing all of them with a mulching blade is just too dense on the grass and doesn't account for leaves left on the garden area. We have made mulch piles in the past and takes too long for my lazy, lack of turning the piles. This was our first year using the Worx WG430 and this is my initial opinion. 1. very easy to set up and use. It is electric so requires a long extension cord to move around the yard. 2. noisy. not more than expected, just as expected. I wear hearing protection when mowing and did with this too. Not a complaint, just an observation. 3. mulch reduction rate. I don't know how manufacturers get their 4:1, 11:1, 16:1 reduction rates, but I didn't see 11:1 mulch rate with this. I played with running a mulched load back through again and even running that through a 3rd time and got it mulched down to very fine, but I take the 11:1 "rating" like I do a wet/dry vacuum that claims to be 5 HP. This is marketing mumbo jumbo and probably isn't reliable to compare between tools. I do believe that the mulch reduction rate is acceptable for either keeping in my gardens, mulch pile or moving them to a compost site. The Worx made big whole leaves into little pieces of leaves. 4. the trim lines. I found that the Worx trims great when the trim line is new, and is progressively slower as the trim line is used and worn down. I've used line trimmers so I understand the concept. With line trimmers they bump to extend or magically extend as they are worn away. With the Worx there is no extending as they wear away. You have to stop your work and replace the pre-cut, pre-measured trimmer lines. The machine came with Worx brand trim lines and there were 10-20 (I don't remember) so you can get started and really get a lot of mulching done with what comes in the box, but you will change them out and maybe quicker than you expected. The changing of the lines is very easy and quick. I have a 350' spool of .080 string trimmer line and using one of the Worx lines, I cut a whole stack of proper length lines and used them in the Worx. I did not see any difference in durability while using my .080 string trimmer line vs the trimmer line that came with the Worx. 5. Stores compactly. 6. I found the paper bag adapter COMPLETELY useless. It went immediately into the garbage since I could not think of a way to repurpose it. I used contractor grade garbage bags that worked great and if I needed to use the paper lawn bags then I could just pour the leaves out of the contractor bags into the paper bags, easier than trying to use the paper bag adapter. After the first season of use, I am very happy for the purchase. It seems durable, easy to use, and does the job (the one job it is intended to do) well. Still have to rake or blow them into a pile and lift them into the machine. I would recommend this for a medium size yard (again my lot is 1/3 acre with 8 very mature trees, 18"-40" diameter base).

Works great! Few key things though...
First off, if you have a lot of leaves to deal with I can't imagine not getting one of these. It is great!! But to get the most out of it here are a few things to pay attention to: Shredding Performance - For me, it shreds about 95-98% of what I put into it. The other 2-5% somehow misses getting shredded. I say this because when you look at the output you will still see some whole or partial whole leaves. However, most of what it produces is fine fragments. I can't tell you the exact reduction % but I can say that it is a MASSIVE reduction and don't doubt the numbers the MFG states. Dumping Leaves - You can't just dump and dump into it. You have to dump and then pause and then dump again. The cadence isn't quite a fast as I would like, if it was 30-40% faster it would be perfect. That said you still can get through huge piles of leaves very quickly, but the pausing is noticeable. If you are finding you are having to fuss with getting the leaves through you are likely putting too many in at once or putting them in too fast. Stand or Not To Stand - I didn't use the stand and instead stuck it on a 32 gallon round garbage can. It sits on it perfectly and then is easy to deal with when you need to empty it. Maybe the legs are good but I didn't want to mess with them, plus I can easily dump them in the compost area and in my yard debris bin. Also I read multiple people talking about how it does't fit a normal leaf bag, so what would be the point anyway? In the instructions, which aren't great but not terrible, it appears you are supposed to roll the top of the bag down to get it to fit?? Why not just make the legs longer? Anyway, I am using the 32 gallon can and it is great. Noise - It is loud, but not incredibly loud. I would recommend wearing some sort of hearing protection though as hearing damage is cumulative. Mess - It is a little messy but not terrible. If you are just doing your work outside, and say not inside your garage, who cares about some leaf pulp around the shredder? But I suppose if you are shredding leaves in an area where some spillage of shredded leaves will be a problem you might be annoyed. Twine - Finally this thing is essentially an upside down weed whacker. The plastic twine they use with it I had read did not hold up. I have done two sessions with leaves and light twigs. Each session I filled the 32 gallon can about 5 times. I am still going strong on the original twine that came attached. I did get the plastic coated metal twine that was recommended in a different review, but I am not sure what the others were doing to need to change it out so quickly. But if someone cares, I got the Anleolife Round Heavy Duty .095-Inch-by-190-ft Steel String Trimmer Line in Donut. Again, haven't needed to try it, but this is what someone else had said fit and could be a stronger replacement. OVERALL - Super happy with the purchase. If you are someone who has to spend multiple days each year dealing with leaves you owe it to yourself to get this thing. It is a great tool from the firs time using it, in fact my neighbors all borrow this thing and we are trading it around, LOL

Works for light/medium jobs
So it did the job of mulching the leaves into basically what looks like dirt, the particles were that fine. However because the leaves break down into such fine particles it's easy to clog. They build up in the hopper and I use a stick to stir it all up and push through. For light to medium jobs this thing is great, anything past medium it struggles with. You really have to pamper it and only feed small handful of leaves at a time or it clogs. Wet leaves clog it easier, tiny sticks that I thought it would just spit out create a structure inside and make it clog. For me the leaves would fly out of the top when it gets clogged. Definitely use dry leaves and make sure there are no sticks in them. Hard to say it's a bad product because the mulch it produced is amazing and will be used for gardening next year, but it can definitely be better and mulch more leaves faster. Shaking it helps as the vibrations feed the leaves along. Eye protection is a must with this product as stuff shoot out all the time. Assembly took maybe 3-5 minutes, and afterwards taking it apart and storing it took maybe 2 minutes. Love how easy it is to put it together and move it around. It's fairly light maybe 20+ lbs.

Works great - just buy extra line!
Works great - just buy extra line! I've had this for a little over a week and love it. The device is easy to set up, use, and change lines (more on that in a second). I typically use the 42 Gallon Husky Bags for my yard cleanup and using the muncher basically cuts down two to two and a half bags of leaves down to one. Pine needles don't get that much efficiency, as there is not a lot of "air" that take up room - but it does a decent job chopping those down too into a finer power. The only negative is that the string for the mulcher wears down rather quickly, and I might experiment with some thicker line (I am using what they gave me for now). When the line wears down, you start getting buildup on the sides and you need some way of agitating the load in order for it to chop back up again. The good news is changing lines is pretty easy and you are back in business pretty quickly. Overall a very solid purchase and I am very happy with this. It should cut down on my bags by more than half - which is great when you need to haul them off your property and transport them to the local dump.

Honestly cant say if it is worth the trouble
I had a fairly large amount of leaves raked up in my front yard. This tool works fine but the issue isn’t really the tool so much as the idea that it reduces it down to fit more in a bag without it. I really cannot say that it does the job it’s meant to. It’s a neat idea but I’m on the fence as to whether it’s worth running all my leaves through it rather than just stuffing them into a yard waste bag like I have always done. I still ended up with four very large bags and I believe I would have had the same amount of bags whether I used it or not. I can’t be 100% sure but I am skeptical about recommending it to any of my friends. To be certain, I will have to create a couple of equal sized pikes and fill bags with and without the tool to compare whether it’s even worth it to take the time running them all through this thing. The tool itself works fine. It’s decent quality and I had no issues with the setup. It even chops some small twigs and it’s easier to put in new string line compared to a typical weed eater. There are no spools to fight with, so that’s a big plus. You do need a very long extension cord to get it set up near your leaf piles depending on how close the nearest outlet is to your trees. It does not work off any rechargeable battery setup, which would be a lot more convenient. I have an outlet about 30’ from where most of my leaves fall and a 100’ 12ga extension cord. The stand is excellent for putting a large trash bag into and Worx even supplies a ring for the paper leaf bags as well. The tool gets really dusty from the leaves being ground up and it will blow the dust out of an exhaust near the plug. I had gotten it in my face a couple times while reaching down to scoop up more leaves before I caught on to directing it away from my work. I had bought a couple of leaf pile grabbers to scoop the leaves up with rather than using just my hands. It turns out that they were useful to shield my face from blow back at the top of the mulcher where you drop in the leaves while it ground everything down. It’s a good idea to keep your face away from the top of it until it’s ground up everything and settled down. There’s no warning label about it at the top that I noticed but a little common sense and caution around any tool like this is to be expected. It’s not the safest of tools. One good use for this tool is for people who compost. This mulches all the leaves nicely and puts it right in the bag for use in the compost pile. In the end, (for me), I think it’s a lot quicker to just skip the mulcher and put the leaves straight in the bag.

Still 5 Stars for this Cool Tool
This is easily the best gadget I've seen in a long time! We have a tiny (8000 sq ft) property that receives the majority of the leaves from 3 large maples (combined trunk girth about 20 feet) and leaf removal was a nightmare until we discovered this product. I used to use my leaf blower/vac to shred and bag the leaves, but it was slow, tedious work and the vac was prone to clogging. The Worx shreds leaves down to nice fine mulch. It does produce dust if the leaves are dry, so use protective mask & glasses. The unit seems really well-engineered and well-made. Changing the lines is very easy. It does not like twigs larger than say, a pencil. I don't know how it feels about acorns. It works better with plastic bags than paper, but I discovered that if I used a large nylon laundry bag to catch the mulch, it was easy to transfer it into paper bags for disposal. When I ordered this, there was only 1 review listed on Amazon, but I took a chance on it because I figured that it was more powerful (13 amps) than the others and would probably perform better. I am so happy I got this! Update: This is my third autumn using this gadget and I still LOVE it! It's still working perfectly, and my nylon laundry bag is still going strong. (Note to manufacturer--you might consider including a reusable bag with the product. Plastic bags just don't hold up, and the paper ones are hard to secure in the frame). I don't know what's going on with the problems others have reported with the trimmer line--I don't find the line breaks easily, and I also discovered that the line my electric trimmer uses is exactly the same, and it's quite economical as long as you're willing to cut it yourself. It doesn't like leaves that are very wet--but neither do I, so it's nice to have an excuse to wait until they dry out a bit before going out to deal with them. I save the shredded leaves composting and mulching my vegetable garden. Brown gold! Another update: Year 4 of using this gadget and I still love it. (I was hoping hurricane Sandy would whisk away the leaves so I wouldn't have to deal with them, but if anything we gained more from the neighbor's yard!) It works as well as it did the first year, and I took another reviewer's advice and tried it with a heavier gauge of trimmer line, with the result that I don't have to change it as often. I've never used another brand of leaf shredder so I can't make any comparisons, but this gadget seems well-made and reliable. Even if it conked out today, I would purchase another (I think the price has come down since I bought mine, I hope that doesn't mean they're using cheaper materials or something!)

Works well if not abused.
Have used it about four hours. Works well. Fairly noisy and generates a lot of dust so wear eye and ear protection and a face mask over nose and mouth. Draws leaves thru throat into grinding area very nicely. Factory strings broke twice, once due to a rock and other due to a thick stick. Strings break quite easily if any sticks of about 1/8" dia or more are mixed in with the leaves. Large construction trash bag fits nicely inside the mulcher's support frame with flaps held in place by the mulcher body. When the bag is full, just lift the mulcher off the frame, then lift the frame off the bag. The 'cutter head' that holds the strings (Worx part number 50018962) is made of plastic and will likely have a short life. Replacements are available only by ordering directly from Worx customer service. When the supplied batch of 0.090" dia strings runs out, I will make new ones from 0.095 dia heavy duty plastic trimmer line and start off with 14" length rather than factory 13".

Better than Black and Decker. Worth it
A lot better mulcher than Black & Decker. Even though B&D has metal blades, it takes awhile to mulch vacuuming the leaves through a tube and then messing with the hose attachment to a trash can for large projects. The Worx works a lot faster and following recommendations from others: use a 33 gallon Home Depot heavy duty black trash bag to collect. The funnel lid is a joke to cinch onto the tub. One connector broke but it doesn’t matter, a seal isn’t necessary since most dust will fly around anyway. Once you click the lid on, don’t take it off ever to prevent it from being broken. It can be stored in its original box with the lid on. I recommend wearing an N95 and safety googles and Noise reduction for your ears. It’s very loud. I use the pro lines instead of the supplied, buy thicker and it will last longer. I buy the “Husqvarna Titanium Force 0.095-Inch, 140-Foot Spooled String Trimmer Line”. It won’t lasts if you have branches but replacing the lines isn’t that hard. I use a snow shovel and rake to scoop the leaves. You will learn how much to pile in. If it’s a lot, you will have to use your rake to push the leaves through. If it’s just right, the leaves will be mulched in an instant. You will notice when the line gets halfway, there’s left over leaves around the basin. To not throw away good line left over, just shorten one end enough for one line and not two like a trimmer. It still works. Happy Mulching. :) I have a lot of leaves and this is a game changer for me despite an obvious design flaw in the funnel design, plastic clip and not metal clips and using line trimmer instead of metal blades like B&D. This pays itself in one season instead of someone else gathering up your leaves. I use the mulched leaves and spread it on my lawn to fertilize it naturally.
