finally a good flag pole
I never flew flags before, always lived in the city apartments. so I bought a ranch out of the city and wanted to fly old glory. so I got a wooden one and it always tangled and then the set screw cracked the clip and it was a real hassel, so then I bought a gold metal pole w/ an eagle on top and said tangle free, it looked great. got it from Americas flag store here on amazon, it came and I was excited to put it up and first thing I noticed was how thin the metal was and how much smaller the diameter was. i put it in the bracket and it did not fit i tightened the set screw all the way in and it still did not tighten the whole flag pole fell out of the bracket then i drilled a hole and ran tie wire thru it and thought i was done then it started to tangle all the time. found my self untangling this tangle free pole all the time, and it was a hugh hassel to undo the wire to take it down. so i decide its a piece of garbage and started looking for a better pole once again, and i found it here with this pole. this pole is way more solid and the spinning sleeve action is way more efficient then the spinning clips. it fits perfect in my bracket. all in all this is a great pole so far and im finally happy. who knew it would be this much trouble for a flagpole lol. i read a review of a woman who said flags unlimited was a better way to go even if you have to pay a couple extra bucks for shipping, she was right.

I'm impressed with this flagpole and highly recommend!
First, I surprised how fast I received this pole using standard shipping. The pole was delivered in excellent condition and seems to be of very good quality and also very sturdy. Much more so than the ones you find at discount stores and home improvement stores. It is an attractive alluminum pole.I found the assembly to be very easy. Screw the two halves of the pole together, unscrew the plastic nuts from the plastic rings, insert the plastic nuts through the grommet holes of the flag and slightly back into the rings. Slide the rings onto the pole and them tighten the screws to secure the flag to the flagpole. You do not use the swivel hook/snap clip that are already attached to the flagpole. Took me all of 2 minutes. No instructions were provided but my packing list gave me a link to the [...] for instructions.Time will tell what the useful life of plastic rings and screws (and the finish on the plastic decorative ball) will be but the mechanics of this pole seem like it should keep the flag from wrapping around the pole. I did see on the USflags website that replacement plastic rings and screws were available for $1.45. Shipping charges for those, however, was $5.95.May 6, 2012 - I'm upgrading to 5 stars after having installed this pole 2 months ago. It works beautifully! We've had both high winds and soft breezes recently but the flag never got tangled on the pole.

Good, Basic Flagpole
This is a good, basic flagpole, designed to fit into a standard 1" bracket. I'm using it with the "Valley Forge 60753 1" Flag Bracket", also sold by Flags Unlimited. Note this pole is white, so if you're using it as a companion to the company's "Spinning Flagpole 3x5 U.S. USA American Flag Kit", which has a silver pole, you'll have a slight mismatch. One reviewer said he needed a zip tie to attach the bottom grommet for his flag. Errr, not exactly - the problem is, there are no instructions included (who needs instructions for a flagpole, right??), but the flag attachment isn't intuitively obvious. There are two plastic rings, each with a plastic screw that tightens the ring to the pole. You have to completely remove the screw, insert it through the grommet, and then screw it back into the ring. Like I said, it's not obvious, and the flag hangs a little funny that way. But only if you look reeeaaaallll close. Basically, it works fine once you figure out the trick. And it is indeed tangle-free, just as advertised.I'm giving this 4-stars because the rings and screws are just plastic, and in time will break, in which case you *will* be needing those zip ties after all.

confusing setup but should work fine
Let's be clear: mine did NOT come with written instructions of any kind (it appears that some lucky customers get instructions, while some do not). It took me several minutes of deductive reasoning to conclude that the two plastic slip rings must be what you use to fasten the flag to the pole, through the flag's grommets. Unfortunately, the grommets in my flag are larger in diameter than the heads of the set screws in the slip rings. (So check your flag before you order.) I'm hoping the plastic screws are of a standard thread pitch so I can buy screws with larger heads at the hardware store; metal screws will probably take the forces better without warping or breaking anyway. If you have this issue you might be tempted to fasten the two slip rings farther apart so they stretch the flag slightly, to keep the flag from falling off the set screws. Even if this doesn't let your flag fly away in the first stiff breeze, it would put stress on the fabric that the flag doesn't need. You need slip rings with set-screw heads larger than the grommet diameter.Mine took nine days to arrive from Florida to California. Acceptable. But would it have hurt US Flags to drop in an installation diagram?
