OTTOCAST Wireless CarPlay Adapter 2025 Carplay Wireless Adapter for Cars with Factory Wired CarPlay (Year: After 2016), No Lag U2-Air

I recently purchased the wireless OTTOCAST adapter for my car and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The installation process was quick and easy, and I was able to start using it immediately. I can now easily stream my favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks from my iPhone without any wires getting in the way. With plug-in CarPlay (on my 2021 Honda Passport), I really wanted the convenience of wireless connectivity, so I bough the OTTOCAST. Set-up went well and the device worked just fine for a week. Then, one morning... When you turn on your car, the OTTOCAST loads its software into the infotainment system. It even displays a "splash" screen and you have to accept its presence on the screen. That morning the loading OTTOCAST software "hung", leaving my infotainment system frozen. It wasn't until I got home that I turned off the motor (and even had to open the door) for the infotainment system to reset. (I feared I might have to disconnect the battery, but didn't.) I'm a tech guy, but I have little tolerance (these days) for hanging software or other hiccups. I'll just plug the phone in when I travel.

It works on my cars (Honda Civic / Toyota Sienna) as described with iPhone. The setup was easy - simple pairing over Bluetooth did the job. Two things to comment: 1. It only supports one phone connection at a time. If multiple phones were paired with this, it will automatically connect with the last phone it connected (and doesn't connect to the other previously connected phones even if the last connected phone is not available). This has been a little bit annoying as in order to switch the phone, you have to manually connect it. 2. There exists audio latency. Adapter Review: Car: 2022 Outback Wilderness. Phone: iPhone 13 Pro Max I've had the adapter for 2 weeks now. During the first 3 days of use with Google Maps and Spotify on, it randomly disconnected from my car dashboard (this is the issue I experienced on other wireless adapters I've purchased from Amazon, hence I returned all of them). Happened only once. After that "fluke", I can say it works as intended. I went on a road trip with Google Maps and Spotify at the same time. No issues. I remote start my car, and as soon as I enter my car it quickly connects, and opens Car Play along with Google Maps and Spotify. It then quickly plays a Spotify song on the list. The only slow-down I've noticed is when skipping tracks/songs on Spotify. It takes about 1-3 secs to respond. It not an issue to me, but wished it responded better. Customer Service Review: To me, customer service seemed rude. After purchasing the item, I was sent the following Amazon Message: Unexpected problem with completing your order. As a responsible brand seller, I know some customers may have trouble using it. 99% of customers are not in the habit of reading the instruction manual before use." This is a weird/rude approach instead of just saying "If any issues, please contact us." (I replied to the message, of course). Good product, "rude" customer service.

A couple of years ago I looked into wireless CarPlay adapters, and my general impression was that it was something of a nightmare product category: nothing worked correctly, and there were UI lags and incompatibilities galore. Just based on the general sentiment, I decided not to buy any adapter at all. More recently, I came across a recommendation for the Ottocast on, I believe, Wirecutter. I fully expected to try it out and return it. But to my surprise, it has worked flawlessly. And wireless CarPlay is really, really nice. There is a noticeable lag in UI responsiveness compared to the wired version of CarPlay. But “noticeable” is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. It’s a modest cost for wireless CarPlay and one that I’m more than willing to pay. Let’s keep in mind what “wireless“ really means: it means you don’t do diddly-squat. You sit your fat, lazy butt in the car, and the CarPlay UI shows up on the car’s display. Your music or audiobook or podcast resumes right where you left off, automatically. Perfect. I have received a couple of messages from the vendor begging me not to return the Ottocast until I’ve given them a chance to help with troubleshooting. Not because I had problems or because I had any complaint; I’m guessing that it’s still a difficult market to serve and that not everyone’s experience will be as smooth as mine. Fair enough. But I’m pretty sure that this vendor will work with you to resolve any problems.

I’ve had the Ottocast U2-Air for a few months. I spent a few days researching this product and its competitors within the price range. I read numerous reviews of each, focusing specifically on users with the same vehicle / infotainment package, a 2021 Mazda CX-5. The installation was simple because I had watched the videos, read the very short manual, and read the email sent by the manufacturer ahead of receiving the product. The time to connect when starting the vehicle is usually around 5 seconds, sometimes up to 10. The infotainment system operates identically to wired connection with no lag in scrolling through or accessing apps. The Mazda may be unique here in that it’s not a touchscreen system, but uses a jog wheel and buttons. No problem for the U2-Air. The lag in audio during phone calls is minimal and almost not worthy of note, very similar to using AirPods or other Bluetooth mic/earbud units. Playing Apple Music or podcasts does have a slight lag in advancing a track or pausing, but this is typical and not bothersome. The audio quality over AirPlay seems to be no different than using a wired connection. It does occasionally skip/glitch during music playback. Overall this unit satisfies my needs, especially considering the price. I am very happy with it this far. I’ll amend this review in the future if there is any noticeable change in performance.

I installed this on my 2017 GMC 3500HD Denali. For the first few weeks it worked with no issues. After a few weeks It would connect but I could never get any sound to play into the truck stereo. Went ahead and uninstalled than reinstalled it and it would work fine for a few days and than the same issue would occur. After the last install I did a firmware update on it. The connection is allot better with this than before the update but now the issue I run across is the the sound quality becomes very poor and turns into static like it has interference. I really like the idea of this product to “cut the cord” but think it still needs some work. Guess it’s a 50/50 chance if it will work or not if purchased. In my case it’s not working and it’s become easier to just plug the phone back into the cord than to fight with this device.

I have a 2019 Honda Odyssey. When I first plugged this unit into the CarPlay/Android Auto USB-A port in my center console, the infotainment screen went black for about 20 seconds and then the infotainment system rebooted. Not a great first impression, but I was willing to overlook it. When the infotainment system finished rebooting (which took about 90 seconds), I was able to connect my iPhone (running iOS 17) to the unit and get wireless CarPlay up and running. There was a little bit of latency -- most noticeable when starting and stopping music. Also, when asking Siri to do something, the very end of Siri's verbal response was cut off by the action starting (i.e. play a podcast, listen to music, etc.). After the screen went dark and the infotainment system rebooted a second time as I was trying out wireless CarPlay, I figured that a firmware update for this device was in order. I connected to the web interface for this device on my phone per the device instructions and it showed that a firmware update was available. I installed the firmware update -- which took about five minutes. The unit rebooted after the firmware update was finished and as it was booting back up, my infotainment screen went dark and rebooted again. After three infotainment system reboots -- two with the previous firmware on this device and once with the latest firmware on this device -- I decided that this wasn't the device for me. I can't risk the infotainment screen going dark and rebooting while I'm using CarPlay to get directions in heavy traffic. I would have loved it if this device worked for me; but I'll keep sticking with wired CarPlay for now.

Excelente producto! Súper fácil de configurar. Lo uso principalmente con CarPlay para reproducir música. Al cambiar de canción el retraso es como de 1 segundo pero funciona perfectamente. Al encender en auto el dispositivo se conecta muy rápido.

I ordered this wireless adaptor in hopes that it would work the Apline iLX-W670 head unit that I was installing in our Pontiac Solstice. Turns out this works great with this setup, I was so impressed I ordered a second one for my wife's Mercedes. It paired up quickly and easily in both applications and we couldn't be happier with the purchases. I would definitely recommend this wireless Apple CarPlay adaptor to anyone looking to lose the cord.
