I'm looking for a machine to play my 33s and my old wax 78s. I'm not too demanding other than semi simple to use. Would this machine be good?

I own a slightly older version of this record player. Appears to be very similar except on/off/rpm button placements. Assuming that’s the case, the player supports 78s. The default buttons switch between 45 & 33, to play 78 you have to lift off the platter and slip the drive belt to a smaller internal gear. Haven’t done it but should be easy enough. It also recommends changing needles, but I suppose that depends on how heavily you’re playing 78 to make it worth that hassle.

What is a good receiver for this turn table? i am about to buy the sony str dh190, but are there any that are better for a few more dollars? $300ish

The Sony STR DH190 is a receiver that will work since it has a phono input. When it comes to receivers many of the brand names (Sony, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, etc) all have similar performance at the sub $300 range. Personally I'd spend $300 on a used, 2 year old $500 receiver. You'll get the same HDMI features and more power which will usually sounds better overall. Amplifier technology has not changed much in the past couple of years. Then look at an upgraded phono stage. The ones in $300 receivers work but are not impressive.

Is the evo compatible with rotel integrated amp and 20yo paradigm speakers?
