In this modern day spin on Pride & Prejudice, Elizabeth Scott (Cindy Busby), is fishing for direction in her life and gets the opportunity to professionally show her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in a fancy New York dog show. Dog show judge Donovan Darcy (Ryan Paevey) comes across as aristocratic and rude and a chain of misunderstandings unfold during the competition, complicating their mutual attraction. In true Jane Austen fashion, Elizabeth and Donovan begin to see the error of their ways and it turns out Mr. Darcy is far more kind and interesting than Elizabeth ever imagined.

As a Jane Austen fan ("Pride & Prejudice" is one of my favorite books/movies), I was looking forward to watching this
I have been looking for a dvd version of this Hallmark tv movie since I saw it on Hallmark Channel a year or so ago. As a Jane Austen fan ("Pride & Prejudice" is one of my favorite books/movies), I was looking forward to watching this. It is a lovely romantic comedy loosely based on Austen's book. The story centers around Elizabeth Scott, a private school teacher who is forced to take a job showing dogs for her mother's friend after she runs into trouble with one of the parents of her students (Mr. Markham). She meets the arrogant and wealthy judge Donovan Darcy at her first dog show and takes an instant dislike to him. As they continue to run into each other in dog shows, she begins to realize that there is more to Mr. Darcy underneath that snobby surface and wealthy background. Mr. Darcy, in turn, becomes attracted to her charm and outspoken, no-nonsense attitude towards him. There are added complications by Darcy's snooty aunt Violet (Frances Fisher) who keeps trying to match him up to Felicity (Courtney Richter), sister of Donovan's wealthy friend Henry (Ryan Kennedy). Henry becomes attracted to Elizabeth's older sister, Jenna (Tammy Gillis). Although both of them begin to acknowledge their feelings, events during a visit to Mr. Darcy's grand home cause misunderstandings between her and Donovan. Will they learn to overcome their differences or will their misunderstandings tear them apart? Those of you who are familiar with the Pride & Prejudice books/movies will see the parallels with this romantic story. This is a Hallmark movie, of course, so you can expect a lighthearted romantic comedy with some drama sprinkled in. The main characters are both well matched and have a great chemistry. Ryan Paevey certainly lives up to my expectations as a modern Mr. Darcy and Cindy Busby is a charming, endearing Elizabeth. Frances Fisher is easy to dislike and the rest of the cast play their roles well. If you like dogs, then this is an added bonus. Enjoy this tv movie for what it is. I am glad this movie is finally available on dvd so that I can watch it again and again. It's one of my Hallmark favorites.

Charming fun
I love dogs, and I love Pride and Prejudice. This is someone's reimagining of, "How would that look today, maybe?" The "Elizabeth" character mistreated by fate is a King Charles Spaniel-owning teacher, put on probation by her private school as the result of a conniving parent unhappy with his entitled son's grade. The wealthy and (not-really-) judgmental "Darcy" character is a show judge for dogs. Guess what class of dog he judges? Spaniels. It's not high art, but it doesn't try to be.It's a sweet and fun distraction for a couple of hours, and you'll get a few good smiles out of it.

Not literal Pride and Prejudice novel adaptation - but entertaining none-the-less
I love this adaption of Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice - Unleashing Mr Darcy. Although it does not follow Jane Austen novel per say, it is a lively adaption. It centered around the dog show of all things. Darcy is a dog show judge and Elizabeth is a dog owner contestant. Also, Elizabeth's mom owns a bridal shop - the horror!!! All kidding aside, Poor Girl... But it wasn't bad just different to what I was used to seeing. I just put it in my Huh!! Category and filed it away; and continued watching the movie. A new twist to the storyline not in the original - but with the popularity of dog shows today it was quite apt. Overall, I really liked this movie just don't expect a true Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice literal adaptation because you will be disappointed. If you like unique adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, you might want to give these other movies a try too. But again strictly speaking they are not a literal novel adaptation either but they capture Darcy and Elizabeth spirit if the novel.Pride and Prejudice (2004) - Kam Heskin' and Orlando SealsBride and Prejudice (2012) - Aishywra Rai' Buchanan and Martin HendersonHallmark Channel Unleashing Mr. Darcy (2017) - Cindy Busby and Ryan Paevey'

True, but still a VERY enjoyable movie!
I do agree with many of the reviews of those who gave it 1-2 stars. However, I don't know why but I just love this movie! It is a feel-good, well-filmed, well-edited, well-propped movie with very likable characters. I agree that there doesn't seem to be a reason why Mr. Darcy would like her, but in reality, when it's love/attraction/curiosity at first sight, it's possible. Besides, you see that Mr. Darcy says verbatim what the protagonist says at the very opening of the movie. So this immediately confirms her disdain for her first impression of Mr. Darcy. I loved watching it over and over on my DVR, and when it erased, I tried to resist but just missed this movie too much and had to buy. That's when I saw the 1-2 star reviews and just had to give my 5 for a fun, cute, feel-good movie!

A Wonderful Movie, one of Hallmarks Best!
Cindy Busby, Ryan Paevey and Francis Fisher are all terrific and should win an award. This is a great movie to watch. Cindy Busby is simply tremendous (academy award tremendous). Watch and Enjoy one of the greatest movies Hallmark has made, with a tremendous cast and direction. Hopefully they will do several more Darcy films.
