Aarke Purifier Water Filter Jug 1.2L/5 cups Glass & Stainless Steel

When I started looking for a new water filter jug my goal was the less plastic the better. I was not expecting to spend as much money as I did for this jug at the end, but it was a good choice after the extensive research I did. There is no plastic coming in contact with water as the body is made of glass and the inside part from stainless steel. I used Brita jugs before for many many years and wanted to upgrade for something better. And this is really it. The water taste amazing with no funny odour or taste of chlorine and other nasty things. Even Brita jugs did not filter as good as this one. When using the old jug I could still taste some chlorine in the water and funny smell, but with this Aarke jug there is absolutely no smell nor taste to water. I am very happy with the purchase. The only downside is that it is fairly heavy but I guess that's what you need to expect when buying glass jugs and also that to refil it you need to take the lid off. But these are just a small flaws for me which are deffinitely compesated by taste of delicious clean water. The glass itself is very sturdy. Size is amazing and can accomodate plenty of water needed for family of 4. It is easy to use and I like the idea that the filter itself is not packed in plastic either rather than that you just refile the filter granules into stainless steel filter. Overaly it is worth every penny even though it is really pricey and could be really less as I do not believe it is that costy to make a bit of glass and stainless steel but I guess for a good quality you need to pay... I can highly recommend this filter jug as I can see it is gonna last years unless it does not and then I would need to change my review :-) but I don't believe I will have to.

I'm starting reducing the amount of plastic I'm using in containers and tools for cooking and eating . So I was looking for a water filter jug with 0 plastics. This one is almost perfect, except for the lid. But still, it's a great improvement from my previous one and it seems to be the only one on the market with most parts not made of plastic. Other than that, I like that the tank is big enough so you don't need to filter too often, and also that the upper tank is big enough so you only need to fill it 2 times to fill most of the jug. Also big improvement from the previous one, with this one you can use the filtered water without waiting for the remaining water in the upper tank to be filtered! Quite time saving. This is because the lid completely sealed the upper tank. This bring me to another improvement Aarke could make as it can be hard to open the upper lid. Other than that I'm quite happy with this purchase. I like that you can clean the jug easily, especially the filtering part, something I was concern about with my previous model. Also under the lid there is marker to set the last time you changed the granules, this makes it easier to know when you need to replace them. So TL;DR Pros: - easy to maintain and clean - big tank - limited amont of filtering to fill the tank - can use the filtered water when still filtering - almost plastic free Cons - lid is plastic - lid can be hard to open

The first thing you see is the price. Yes it's expensive, but there are things in life worth paying for, that you use a lot and last many years. A good mattress, or nice eye glasses for example. A quality water filter isn't a frivolous extravagance, it's something you use literally every day that delivers most of the liquid you consume. There are not many options if you want a water filter jug that isn't plastic. My previous jug was glass, but still had a plastic inner container and used plastic filters. Aside from the environmental implications, it's just not nice knowing that the water you drink is sitting in plastic for so long. This jug (I went for the big one) is all glass and stainless steel, looks great, feels high quality and isn't too heavy. It's also not that tall, so easy to fill in my little sink. The smaller jug is actually taller. I love the design, it's very slick, easy to clean and solid. Water pours quickly and without spilling. One slight quirk though - if you push the lid down just after filling, water seeps up through the top. So you have to rest the lid on and only push it into place when it's time to pour. It's a physics issue, more than a design flaw. The taste is... okay, frankly. It's fine. I'm using the basic granules and apparently they contain silver, which may be the cause of the metallic taste? My previous Brita filtered water tasted of nothing really, while this definitely has a flavour. It's not bad, but it's there. Some people are using a different brand of granules, but we're supposed to boil the filters every week so I'm not sure going off-brand for the granules is wise, especially if they contain a type of plastic. Aarke granules are designed to be boiled, so for now I'll stick with them and the subtle metal tang. After a week I barely notice it any more :) 5/5 for the product, even at this price. Loses a point for the taste. Would buy again.

At first I thought the product was great, no plastic and looks nice. It’s a bit of a faff each week to boil the filter for three minutes and to replace the granules every 4 weeks but ok for the benefit of avoiding plastic. However, after using it for less than three months the handle has cracked dispite very careful handling. I am unable to use it anymore. It’s very disappointing for such an expensive jug. There are no replacement jugs in stock even though I don’t think I should have to pay £24 for a new one this soon anyway. I have contacted Aarke and will see how they wish to resolve the problem.

I absolutely love this water filter jug. I can’t fault anything about it. It’s worth every penny. It’s large enough so that I dont have to top it up every 5 minutes without being too heavy. It’s is fantastic quality and I’m sure it will last for many years to come, it looks great. The handle is comfortable to hold, the bottom is soft silicone so it sits safely and softly on the counter top. The lid fits perfectly (it’s sealed with a silicone seal so it doesn’t leak when pouring water. The filter time is good., long enough to filter properly but not so long that I can’t wait. The water tastes absolutely fantastic, so much better than Brita or Dafi. I have had both a Brita and 2 Dafi glass filters over the past 2 years and they have both broken not to mention the fact that the water still sits in a plastic filter and filter tray. It’s is very rare to buy something that is simply amazing. This really is just the best. I so wish that more things were made to this standard.

Great. Fantastic build quality. Thoughtful design too - because the lid has a rubber seal, you can still pour the filtered water while there is unfiltered water in the hopper without them mixing. A little tricky to unpack as it takes some force to remove the hopper from the jug to extract the cardboard packing material inside.

Firstly you need to flush through about 2l of water to get a clean taste otherwise it will taste metallic. After this the water is pretty good. I'd give it 4.5 for the water quality and overall look. I'm only marking it lower because it's priced at 4 times a basic Britta filter is so I'd expect a very high quality of finish. There are a couple of minor downsides that bring the mark down: The internal stainless steel cartridge is made from a very very thin gauge of stainless steel, so when screwing it back together the thread does not bite well, making it awkward to tighten. Given that it's £95 they should have a cover for the spout. Without it. The water is exposed to air. Other companies have this and it is just a small oversight but given this design is an overhaul of the typical filter, they should have considered it. On the whole it's good water, looks nice and feels well put together.
