Public and Private Families: An Introduction

This textbook was reader friendly. It is formatted in a way that was easy to read and also to look up main points. It was one that I needed for an online course and I got good use out of it. There are also questions at the end of each chapter and main ideas in bold to make studying easier. It is not a text that I dreaded using and it made the material easy to understand. I did rent this book instead of purchase it because of the cost and would recommend renting if it is available.

This text is terrible. I had to get it for a class (no surprise, the class was also a huge waste of time and money) and I felt as though it was being taught and backed up with this text by fundamentalist Christians who were teaching to college-level home schoolers who they assumed wouldn't question the antiquated BS being taught.The information in this textbook is outdated, the research is utilized in deceiving ways and the social judgements and obvious conservative agenda oozes from it without any regard for even attempting to seem unbiased. If you care about teaching a textbook for your class that has information that is consistent with APA and ASA standards, this is not it. I should think that this text would not fly in a Sociology class for the amount of crap to critique in this is tremendous, but another reviewer mentioned they did have to get this for a Sociology class. Wow, all I have to say is COLLEGE PROFESSORS BEWARE OF THIS TEXT!I was surprised to see that the author teaches at Johns Hopkins which I just assumed is heavily based in science and research... then I found this article: http://www.advocate.com/commentary/2015/12/15/scary-science-johns-hopkins-university So then I thought maybe it's not so distant?
