RT85N Turntable with Nagaoka MP-110 Cartridge, Acrylic Platter, Speed Control, and Vibration Isolation - Piano Black

My Fisher turntable finally gave it up after 30+ years of service. I wanted to get a new one, so I looked around, and the Fluance kept coming up. So I decided to give it a try. Well, I pulled the trigger and purchased it. I’ve been using the Fluance RT85N for a while now, and it has proven to be an outstanding turntable in both build quality and sonic performance. Fluance clearly put a lot of thought into the engineering of this model. The acrylic platter adds excellent rotational stability, and the isolated motor design keeps unwanted noise out of the signal path. The MP-110 cartridge tracks beautifully, delivering crisp detail, tight bass, and a warm midrange that makes vinyl playback genuinely enjoyable. The RT85N feels premium from the moment you unbox it. The plinth is solid and well-finished, the tonearm moves with precision, and setup is straightforward. Once dialed in, the table performs consistently with no speed drift or mechanical quirks. It’s the kind of turntable that lets you relax and enjoy your collection without fuss. The only thing I would mention is timing. Shortly after purchasing the RT85N, I discovered that Fluance had released the new R87. Had I known the R87 was available, I likely would have purchased it instead, simply because it appears to offer some refinements and upgrades that align with my long-term audio goals, but it is $300 more. Nonetheless, the RT85N is a high-quality, high-value turntable, and I have no regrets about its performance. Overall, the RT85N is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a reliable, great-sounding turntable with premium components at a fair price. Even with the newer model now available, the RT85N remains a strong performer and a product I can confidently recommend.

After coming across a couple of reviews by audiophiles, I bought this turntable to replace my five-month-old Denon 300F. Don't get me wrong, Denon is a respectable brand, but Fluance is a step up. It is definitely a different sound, which I enjoy. The RT85N is solidly built, and I love the Glossy Walnut—it's beautiful! The unit is easy to set up, the adjustable feet are really nice for getting it to sit level, and being able to easily switch out the plug-in cartridge if desired is a big plus since I might want to try the Ortofon 2M Blue sometime. The only thing I wish I'd done differently was ordered the Fluance silicon platter mat (PFHTRP) when I ordered the turntable. Prior to putting the mat on, static pops and crackles were quite noticeable, even after using an anti-static gun and brush. My advice is buy the mat when you buy the turntable. You'll be glad you did.

Decided to get a turntable to listen to my hundreds of LPs from the 70's. Did a lot of research and landed on ordering the Fluance RT85N. It had great reviews and the product delivered. The turntable was straight forward to set up using the included instructions. Fluance has a setup video on their product web site that walks through the setup. It was very easy to connect to my Denon receiver and sounds fantastic. The Nagaoka MP-110 Stylus Nagaoka MP-110 stylus sounds great. It is warm, with great detail, and wonderful imaging. Reviewers say the Ortofon 2M Blue sounds brighter. Choice of cartridge is subjective and depends on what sound you prefer. I am very pleased with the sound of Nagaoka stylus. A couple of reviewers mentioned they preferred the Nagaoka MP-110 stylus for an older record collection. The turntable itself is very easy to use. Prefer the semi-automatic behavior of stopping at end of record. Brought life back to my albums that I haven't listened to in over 30 years. Couldn't be more pleased with the turntable.

I absolutely love my Fluance RT85N. The black finish with the acrylic platter looks sleek and modern, and it feels solid and well-built right out of the box. But more importantly, it sounds incredible. The included Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge delivers a warm, detailed sound with excellent clarity and separation. Vocals are rich and natural, and the bass is tight without being overpowering. Speed is stable, setup was straightforward, and it runs quietly. For the price, this turntable performs well above expectations. If you’re serious about vinyl and want premium sound without going into ultra high-end pricing, the RT85N is a fantastic choice.

I don't know what the standard platter would sound like, but this acrylic looks great and the Nagaoka cartridge is excellent. I almost went with the other version with the Ortofon Blue but chose this because I read on multiple forums: 1. The blue ortofon can sound overly crisp, detailed and might "fatigue" the ears. 2. The ortofon blue stylus (needle) can cost twice as much $204 at replacement time as the Nagaoka $70 and I plan to replace the stylus every 300 hours or two years. I don't plan on changing the entire cartridge, but will upgrade my speakers and even get a pre-amp maybe... before I then upgrade to a fancier cartridge. 3. The Nagaota gets so much praise for its warmer sound and decent bass. 4. BUT this all depends on your "vinyl-chain": the amp or receiver you use and the speaker quality so its all subject to these and subjective too. I get no wow and flutter (I have good ears and would hear it) and I don't get any sibilance from the needle. My old vinyl that has been in the back room for 25 years now sounds amazing in my new "vinyl room" (the old sun-room). It was fun watching youtube vids on what to expect to set up the tone arm and antiskate, easy. The 3 rubber feet work fine, I have no issues with the unit just turning off when record side is finished. At least it does not spin and get kicked out to respin again. It's fine for the needle to gently stay there if I walk away and return. I don't have any 45's and certainly no 78's so having 33 and 45 speeds are fine. I don't need a system or cartridge and needle that will play exotic mono and 78's when I have 50 years worth of 33 1/3 to play. The lift arm (I believe it's hydraulic) works perfectly: it lifts all the way and slowly comes down as expected. The tone arm is fine, but where the arm lock or holder clips over the arm, it is tight and the black has rubbed off very slightly. I might use a sharpie to dab it someday if it gets noticeable. I would not say (as others have) that this means it's a "lower quality tonearm", I feel it's fine and the tone arm gears and general feel is fine. If I really wanted a carbon-straight arm, I would have spent another $150 for those other brands but I was really pushing this at $500, so I'm really happy.

Very good quality and value for the money. I’ve been researching for months when I decided to upgrade my vinyl sound system and I am so glad that I picked Fluance RT85N. It’s beautiful, solid and quality build. Can’t beat the value with the acrylic platter and Nagaoka MP-110 Cartridge.

First, a caveat: I'm not a true audiophile. I have a pair of relatively low-end Klipsch speakers and a 90s JVC receiver. I had a Fluance RT81 turntable that I liked quite a bit but I've been buying a lot of vinyl lately and decided to upgrade my turntable. I didn't want to spend too much so, I looked around the $500ish range. After doing a fair bit of research (and because I had a good experience with my first Fluance unit), I decided on the RT85N. To my ears, the sound is terrific. What's really remarkable about it, though, is how good my old records sound. I've been buying vinyl since the mid-70s. I've always been moderately careful about how I treat my records, but for a long time, I had a pretty crappy turntable, so they have been through a lot. On the RT81, they sounded about how I'd expect: a fair bit of background static noise compared with the new vinyl I've been buying the last few years. But on the RT85N, they sound terrific. Not perfect, of course, but still really good. The newer records sound great too. As others have said, the turntable itself is both solidly built and attractive. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to spend a little more than entry-level money.

The only reason that I bought this to replace my old Rega P2 turntable, which was also fitted with a Nagoaka MP 110 cartridge was because it has an automatic stop function on the run out and has already proved invaluable.I was not expecting the sound quality to be as good as the Rega but it truly is as good. My grips are that unlike the Rega turntables tone arm clamp and cueing lever that are silver coloured ,the black ones on the Fluance are difficult to see against the black base that I chose. Also difficult to see are the counterweight and anti-skate numbers.I will be marking all of these with a white marker pen.The guarantee will only be recognised from the date of delivery ?. I waited some before writing a review, letting the initial honeymoon period pass, that time when you tend to be most hyperbolic and least objective. I love this turntable. From the visual - striking, beautiful, it stands out in my room - to (kinda important also) its audio qualities, I’m vey happy with my choice. I spent a lot of time researching and selecting a turntable. Matched with my Denon amp and KEF speakers, the audio quality is - at my level of audiophility (yes, I made up that word :-) - amazing. I’ve only recently come back to vinyl and am appreciating it for many reasons. The turntable was a key element. The combination of features is perfect, including the auto-stop. I couldn’t face a turntable that’s fully manual, but understand the stated difficulties in designing a fully automatic turntable at this quality level. Auto stop has been a great compromise. Well done, Fluance.

Que dire ... cette platine n'est pas suffisament isolée à mon avis, pourtant je l'avais branchée sur un ampli phono Manii haut de gamme en utilisant des cables de modulation premium anti-parasites avec la prise de terre reliée au phono. J'ai même essayé avec d'autres ampli phono. Mais rien à faire tous les vinyles anciens ou neufs testés craquaient vraiment beaucoup. Le son sorti de la cellule est clairement "chaud" et manque cruellement de clarté. Je n'ai pas gardé cette platine, j'ai pris une Rega Planar P3 à la place et celà n'a vraiment rien à voir, les mêmes vinyles n'ont plus aucun craquement, le son s'est éclairci (même ampli phono pourtant), la musique est vivante, c'est du grand spectacle !

Die Krönung aber ist der Nagaoka Tonabnehmer MP-110. Er unterstützt bravourös das, was man den „Vinyl Sound“ nennt. Seidenweich, aber dennoch exakt! Und das Beste, die Rillengeräusche treten absolut in den Hintergrund, was mehr als angenehm ist und so nerven schonendes Hören über Stunden ermöglicht! Ich jedenfalls genieße jede Minute mit diesem Ausnahme Dreher und fiebere allen „NEUEN“ und auch den „ALTEN NEUEN“ schwarzen Scheibe entgegen! Ach ja, meine Gattin, die meiner neu entbrannten Vinyl Leidenschaft nicht so viel Verständnis entgegen bringt sagt: schön klingen tut er ja, aber vor allem ist er wunderschön anzusehen, in seinem edlen hellen Bambus Look. Und zum Rest des Möbel setzt er den passenden Kontrast, den Ton in Ton ist ja sowas von OUT!
