Compared to other portable AC units I have used (from Honeywell and Black and Decker), this product is superior. It cools the room quickly, is exceptionally quiet and the ability to control it on my phone via wi-fi is very convenient. The unit is larger and heavier than some, and the combined exhaust and intake hose is not as flexible as what is found on single hose units I have, which makes installation and positioning options a bit more limited, but I feel the excellent performance of the Whynter 1030WN makes up for these compromises. It does cost more than other portable AC units with similar BTU ratings, but the quality and performance justify the increased price (which is currently discounted on Amazon).

This portable AC works well for cooling down my room, which used to stay warm. I love the scheduling feature that allows me to set it to turn on and off, and the app for managing settings is a great addition. However, I did experience issues with the temperature sensor; it doesn’t seem to respond accurately. Even when the desired room temperature is reached, the unit sometimes stays on, and other times, it won't kick on when the room gets warmer than set. Unfortunately, I had to return it due to delayed shipping and ended up buying one from Home Depot instead. Overall, it's effective but could use improvements on the temperature control.

I have had several portable AC units over the years, and this is clearly the best for efficiency and noise. First, double-hose units are far superior to single-hose ones, irrespective of the brand. Single-hose units exhaust air outside, which means that, somewhere in the home, hot outside air is pulled in to replace it. Then, a first big advantage of this model over other brands/models is that it is much less noisy. It is true at full power, but even more when full power is not needed because it reduces the speed of its compressor and fan. Finally, it is an efficient unit, which means you get more cooling power for the same electrical consumption. Its BTU SACC value is high for its electrical power, and it has the highest BTU SACC value (10,000) among all 12,000 BTU units on the market (BTU SACC is a better measure of cooling power than BTU). Two features probably explain the greater efficiency: first, the variable speed compressor and fan mentioned above, and second the hose-in-hose design for the air intake/exhaust. In a regular unit, the exhaust hose is hot and radiates heat in the room like a radiator. Here, the hot air exhaust hose is enclosed within the cooler air in-take one to avoid this radiator effect (Of course, it probably means the entering air is warmed up a little by the hot exhaust and that this results in a small decrease in efficiency but overall it is probably a gain of effenciency.

With the sweltering summer heat, I decided to finally upgrade my portable AC unit that I used in my office as my old unit was not effective. I have a Whynter AC Unit in my home living room and knew that brand of unit has been phenomenal so decided to purchase this brand for my office and I'm so glad I did. It was easy to install and download the app so I can adjust the temperature seamlessly from my phone. It offers several options for temperature regulation (fan, cool, auto) and keeps my room cool and dry. It's been essential to have this level of comfort during the intense heat waves so that I can focus on my work and not be overwhelmed or distracted by the temperature in the space. Would definitely recommend!

Does not fit every window. Hose comes with a PVC panel. If you need to make it smaller, you have to use a circular saw to cut the PVC material to size. The use of power tools is not something I would consider "tool less" installation. Additionally, if you make a mistake, you have now voided your warranty and no longer have a machine that will fit your window. I recommend the 'U-Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner' instead. The Whynter ARC-1030WN requires a window. So, if you have a window, use the U-Shape AC. It is smaller. Half is inside and half is outside to safe space and increase energy efficiency. AND it is cheaper. AND it's quieter. So much better than this item.
