I bought this to work out multiple small mats on a long-haired, older female semi-feral cat we care for on our porch (she's a trap/spay/release). She has a tendency to mat up near her tail and I have done the olive oil treatment before for a really tough mat, but didn't relish doing it again for a bunch of small mats in the middle of winter. I bought the most cost effective version of the undercoat rake I could find with the reviews that made me think it would work for our semi-feral girl and it totally performed as we'd hoped. I started using the side with the lesser number of tines yesterday (the day the rake arrived) and continued today and most of the kitty's mats are gone. She got a little annoyed with me for a couple of the deeper passes, but the rake slid the undercoat and mats out easily enough that even the cat's evasive measures worked in our favor. The side of the rake with the higher number of tines worked well on the kitty's medium haired daughter too. So I am totally a fan and would recommend this product for anyone with skittish cats that have smaller mats. It might be tough to get out a larger mat without the help of olive oil or a detangler, but I am positive the rake would do the trick if we needed it to as long as we added some kind of detangling aid.

This does a great job of easily removing the extra hair and matted hair from my two miniature schnauzers. I would compare the quality of this product to the Furminator but at a much lower cost. You can tell the brush is made of high quality materials that will last a long time. The handle grip is also a nice touch.

We have a long-haired cat who we suspect is a LaPerm mix. That means she has long, wavy/curly hair, that’s thin and soft without an undercoat. This seems to be the brush she tolerates the best. We brush her everyday with it, and it doesn’t seem to pull too hard or too deep like some other brushes can. Since it has two different teeth sides, we use the bigger one for everyday brushing, and the smaller side for any tangles we may find on her tummy.

My Border Collie has a very thick, long haired coat and develops a thick undercoat. Like any tool, you need to understand how it works. I've had this a year, worked great. With her, the wider blades were perfect, just work through the coat in a slow methodical manor. Later, flip it over and use the narrower blades to finish.I've been very happy with this brush, but tonight it broke. Right where the bolts on the slides hold the blade assembly. It's only a molded plastic frame and I believe it just got weak over time and cracked. If they just made it a bit stouter I would give this a 5 star. If you are not dealing with a thick coat like the one my dog has and not pulling on it really hard all the time you'll do fine.

This is either the 4th or 5th brush I have purchased for my long-haired cat and I finally found the one!! She has developed matts on her stomach where she usually does not want to be brushed at all. The first time I brushed her with this she was purring, by the second time she was rolling over and letting me brush her belly. As noted in other reviews it will not take out matts that are right next to the skin but it does break them up a bit so you can cut them out. I have only been using the brush for under 2 weeks and already there is a noticeable difference - it does remove ALOT of fur - like a whole cat's worth. Molly seems soooo much happier! Now she jumps on the bed the minute I get home waiting to be brushed.

I'm very disappointed with this product; feel like it's just yanking on my dog's hair. I went back to a regular 'rake' and a pair of scissors. I used to have another style that looked like a comb with a blade between the teeth but I can't find it. I'll have to buy another of those.

Doesn’t work at all or as advertised. I have a GSD and a GSDX and this doesnt do anything on their dense double coats. Got it to help detangle the fluff on their rear legs where we have trouble with the fur getting too dense and almost matted, but it doesn’t do anything. Fur-minator works better but I was hoping for a better tool than that and our pronged rake.

The product works well on our our short haired tabby. Her hair gets knots on her back due to her not being taught by her mother how to groom. We have to use the wider side of the tool and comb her at about a 45 degree angle from the natural direction of her hair. The shorter width side is not as sharp to cut through the hair. At first she did not like it, but now she meows if we do not comb her after she eats her breakfast. Works great.
