AQUANEAT Aquarium Bio Sponge Filter Breeding Fry Betta Shrimp Nano Fish Tank (Middle up to 20Gal)

I just set this up in my 1.8gal Beta tank the other day. So far it’s amazing! This little filter is everything and more, that I was looking for. As I said, I just set it up, so I’ll have to come back and let you know how it does on keeping the tank clean, and ease of cleaning the sponge filter. I have two more 3 piece sets in my cart, because I want to make sure that I always have this product (there are no replacement filters (and I don’t know how long each one will last), but at this price, I’ll just replace the entire thing when needed). I got the 3 piece for $8.88 and it comes with 3 complete sets.

So, these work as advertised and are an awesome value. I will state that I think a 3 gallon, for one filter, at least on a long-term basis is too big. I use these in my 1 and 2 gallon planted shrimp and snail jars that would be otherwise unfiltered. I have a 3 gallon critter keeper I use for separating plants, extra snails, shrimp etc before bagging them up and giving them away to friends and family and one of these filters is just too small for that. Now, if you do need something bigger but not as big as their next size up, you can search for bio filter sponge. They are like tiny round version of a box filter. Half a sponge and half gravel in the bottom. Loads more powerful for a 25% increase in size. However, that isn't what I needed, and these fill my needs wonderfully. Just understand what you are buying. I can't stress enough how small these are. Which again, makes them prefect for some uses such as my case. Tiny snail species and shrimp. Maybe two of these filters in a small Betta tank, but I'd still be more comfortable going up a size. Just another note: these have a very fine pore structure to the sponge, so they need frequent cleaning. This is the norm but if you prefer a coarse sponge, this isn't. (I use both for different applications.) Neither a positive nor a negative just preference. Having said all that, if the larger ones are anything like the smaller ones, I wouldn't hesitate to order them. Huge value for money.

Works well in a 60 and 90 gallon tank. Originally switched from a large waterfall filter to these sponge filters when the waterfall filter started getting too loud and having parts wear out from sucking up sand. Since these sponge filters don't have moving parts and uses air to filter, you don't have to worry about parts breaking, just squeeze out the sponges during water changes and occasionally take apart the plastic to clean off buildup with vinegar. Can also rinse the sponges out into other tanks to introduce microbes and waste to new systems. Recommend getting an adjustable air pump to control the level of bubbling. Works well with floating plants and water roots. The sponges started showing wear after about two years.

I had run out of filters for my goldfish, Fred. I was using an aerator stone only in his 2-gallon bowl. Of course, that does not filter water, so poor Fred's water was becoming dirty quickly. I put this filter in yesterday afternoon, and this morning, that bowl was clean! Super pleased with this. So is Fred. ;/
