Kick butt action for the fairy tale readers...
Tessa's birthday comes with unwelcomed visitors. Like being new in town isn't bad enough, it seems storybook characters have found a way off the pages, into the real world, and want her dead. Tessa is a scion. The last scion. With her death the bridge between their worlds is blocked. Some want it faster than others. As Tessa learns of her powers, against her wishes she makes friends and puts everybody into deadly danger. This book is geared towards a teen group, expanding to YA. So, why did I read it? Duh! I'm a kid at heart. A lot of 'What if... I could meet any character in faction whether novel, short stories or comic books?' That's what this book is about. The good. The bad. Now, was the writing perfect? Ah, there was some jumping, but the story kept my interest the entire way through.

Buffy meets Once Upon a Time
Absolutely loved this creative and fresh story, told very much in the genre of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of my all time favorites. Kelly Thompson has created a new, strong female protagonist Tessa Battle who gets thrust into a world where every fictional story ever created exists. Some seek to aid, others to harm her, this new world presents limitless opportunities for our new hero. This book was captivating beginning to end and left me desperate for a sequel. Here’s hoping we get one soon.

If you liked "Buffy," you'll probably dig "Story Killer"
Thompson's fantasy story about a young girl who discovers she has the power to cross into the world of fiction/fantasy, as well as the power to do almost anything she pleases (hooray for super-strength!) is a rollicking ride from start to finish. The original characters are wonderfully entertaining, as are all the "established" characters that Thompson reinvents, like the Ice Queen, the Big Bad Wolf and Robin Hood, just to name a few. This book greatly reminded me of Whedon's "Buffy," and I mean that as a high compliment. A young girl discovering her power, with the help of her witty friends, and mixing humor with drama and loss - an excellent read and highly recommended. I can't wait for Thompson's next offering.

Even better than The Girl Who Would Be King
Kelly Thompson was strongly influenced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and this is her attempt to create a Buffy-esque superhero story. In this she succeeds admirably. Fans of Buffy will notice parallels between Buffy and Storykiller, but Storykiller is different enough that it's not a rehash of Buffy. This story has a great, complex hero, brave and loyal friends, complex characters who are villainous and good in varying degrees and some great worldbuilding that hints of much more to come in the future. Add humor and snappy dialog and you've got a winner.

Absolutely in love with this book
Absolutely in love with this book, its characters, and its concept. My only qualms involved story choices that were solely to do with this being a "first in a series" novel. I count the days for the next book in the Storykiller series.

Good story, but too much like Buffy in the first half.
I really didn't the story and the characters, but it was way to much like Buffy: The Vampire Slayer for the first half of the story. As the story evolved away from that, it got better.
