If you are using it in combination with nail polish, then you need to use an uv lamp.

Do you have to use a gel polish, or can you use normal white polish?

you can use any polish with it. if you just want to do tips ordinary polish is fine. if you want to use Stamping plates you need proper stamping ink as it's highly pigmented
