I'm not a beekeeper, so I've no idea how well this works for its intended function. I bought it because it was the right shape for my intended task: taking up 200 sqft of St Augustine grass for a new flower bed. If you've ever tried to take up old-growth St Augustine with a hoe and shovel, you know what a Herculean feat it can be. This knife looked ideal for undercutting the roots to take it up more simply, and it turned out to function very well indeed for that job.Note, however, that simple does not mean easy. It requires both hands and a significant amount of upper body strength -- on the level of an adult male or an athletic female -- to use the knife for more than a few square feet of cutting. And you're doing it on your knees, so buy some sturdy knee pads. You'll also need to be in pretty good shape cardio-wise, as will take a toll on your endurance. Taking up 200 sqft took me two and half hours with frequent breather breaks. If you're young (I'm 53) you could probably do it in half that time. You'll still need to go back with a hoe to get a few stragglers before you hit it with a tiller, but it's a lot simpler than doing it the old-fashioned way, especially with old-growth St Augustine.Or you could just rent a powered sod cutter. But I'm old, stubborn and tightfisted, so I used a knife.Pro tip: drag a bench file about three strokes across both sides of both edges every few passes. This will keep the tips of the teeth sharp and make cutting much easier for big jobs.

well made tool. Very sharp, scalloped serrations. I'm using it for cutting sod underneath. works like a charm. I'm not sure about the steel composition so it remains to be seen how stainless it is but it seems high quality. Nice wood handle. Surprisingly high quality for the price.

The knife works very well, as advertised. However, the bees don't always make comb that complies with the design of the frames we build. As long as the comb caps are above the surface of the frame, the knife is perfect. But when they are not above the surface, other methods are required in order to uncap the cells.

This is the first uncapping knife I have purchased and used. I found it to be very sharp and easy to use. The only down side (And from what I can tell, applys to all uncapping knifes.) Is it is a little short in the blade length.I like the double serrated edge, making it friendly to both left and right handed users.Happy to recommend to others, and came at a fantastic low price.Delivered in a fast and efficient manner.

Worked very well. As a small-scale beekeeper it’s good to get a product at an affordable price. Much less than the local bee supply store.
