A necessary but imperfect item.
All the hubs out there in the £30-60 range are absolute trash. For proper support for multiple monitors through one cable, you need this. The fact that this one mostly works takes some of the sting out of the price. Still does need to be unplugged and plugged back in if the laptop is turned on while connected, which is a bit disappointing. But it's a hell of a lot more reliable than the trash in the lower price points. The 3 stars is mainly because of price and also because the unit does not go to sleep while a laptop is plugged in, and it does generate a decent amount of heat. Also the network connection remains active, consuming power unnecessarily. Perhaps because of the useless Azure crap (I ordered the one without the weird corporate cloud stuff but the sent the wrong unit, I think it's basically the same hardware). All in all it's a functional, working product unlike everything else on the market. But because it's aimed more for the corporate world, it does sit there guzzling power like an office block with all the lights on at midnight. If you only have a single monitor, consider saving your money and buying the cheap crap instead. For two screens, it's a nice luxury to have only a single cable and this one works.

Awesome dock. Supports 4K120 over HDMI (with a firmware update)
EDITED 2023-07-09: I am pleased to report that Lenovo released a firmware update to fix the 4K120 issue. As long as you make sure to update the firmware, this dock is therefore capable of outputting 3840x2160 120 Hz 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 with no issues. Awesome! Rating increased from 4 to 5 stars as a result.ORIGINAL REVIEW:This USB4/Thunderbolt 4 dock does what it says on the tin and is quite good value at £235, especially given the feature set, brand and available alternatives. It came bundled with a power supply and what looks like a certified Thunberbolt 4 cable.Just like any other Thunderbolt 4 dock, the basic principle is that you connect it to your PC using the provided Thunderbolt 4 cable and it will give it power (charging) as well as a litany of data connections (display, USB, Ethernet, etc.) through it. It's plug and play with no drivers required.Note that, depending on your needs, you might be able to save money if you go for the Satechi USB4 Multiport Adapter. It's very similar in purpose (USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 are virtually the same thing) and much cheaper. The main downsides of the Satechi is that it doesn't come with a power supply (you need a separate USB-C charger) and it comes with a very short captive cable which is problematic for cable management. If you can live with these limitations, save your money and get the Satechi.I have verified using a USB power meter that this Lenovo dock is capable is supplying the full 60W (3A@20V) that my laptop allows for charging. I have no problem believing that it can supply the full rated 100W, as well as power-hungry USB devices at the same time, given that it comes with a very beefy 135W power supply that is almost as big as the dock itself!I have also verified that the 1 Gbit/s Ethernet, downstream USB ports, and the single downstream TB4 port all work with no noticeable issues.I have also tested the HDMI 2.1 port with my LG G1 OLED TV. That works just fine at 4K 60 Hz, but unfortunately the dock is incapable of operating at 4K (3840x2160) 120 Hz RGB 4:4:4, at least with the 11th gen Intel iGPU I tested it with. This is disappointing for an HDMI output marketed as "HDMI 2.1". With Intel GPU driver 30.0.101.1692, 4K120 kinda works but is not stable, with frequent black screen flickers. With Intel GPU driver 30.0.101.3111 and 30.0.101.3222, the dock refuses to output RGB and instead outputs YCbCr420 for any 4K refresh rate higher than 60. I strongly suspect this is due to a dock firmware issue that Lenovo could fix. I tried to call Lenovo support and was told that it was a limitation of my laptop, which I know to be false since I tested other adapters that do work perfectly in this mode. I also tried to reach them on the Lenovo forums but had little success thus far. If you want 4K120, get an adapter that was shown to work in this mode, such as the Cable Matters adapter with up to date firmware. In fact, you can even combine both and use such an adapter on the downstream TB4 port of this dock - this is my current setup and it works fine, if only a bit silly and expensive.Host device used for the tests: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6. Dock was updated to the latest firmware available on the Lenovo website before testing.
