Hi-chew is a soft, chewy candy that contains real fruit juices and purees, no artificial colors, gluten free, cholesterol-free and 0g trans fat. Hi-chew is the #1 soft candy in japan and is the new sensation in north America. Enjoy hi-chew, a sensationally chewy candy with real fruit juice. In the 1930's, taichiro morinaga was trying to create a new kind of chewing gum for japan. Back then, it was very impolite to take food out of your mouth. So Mr. Morinaga tried to create a more culturally accepted version of chewing gum- one that could be swallowed. Fortunately, Mr. Morinaga already made outstanding caramel with a uniquely chewy, creamy texture. It was unlike anything else in japan. In 1931, he added natural strawberry flavor to his caramel recipe and chewlets was born. Then in 1975, after decades of hard work perfecting his recipe, Mr. Morinaga re-introduced chewlets to japan as the wonderful candy we now know as hi-chew. Since then, hi-chew has been produced in over 113 flavors and become the most popular chewy candy in japan. Today. It's rapidly becoming an American favorite. We hope you enjoy the real fruit flavor and chewy texture that makes hi-chew like nothing you have ever tasted before.

Great Price for Asian Starburst
I don't know what it is about Hi Chew, but sweet merciful crap do I love them. When you first try them you might not be blown away. You'll just be thinking okay it's basically Asian starburst. But then you'll realize you can't stop popping them. You'll develop a taste for it like fine wine. The sour is by far my favorite flavor. They're not actually very sour at all. I'd say tart is a more accurate description. In any case, I happened upon these one day in a convenience store in the office building complex I work in. It's run by an Asian guy and has lots of random Asian candies you don't see very often in the US. Unfortunately for me he charges through the roof. A bag of these things is $3.99 in his store. It's a small bag that gets about 15 pieces too, barely enough for a single session. I love these things but not enough to pay a price that's probably literally more expensive than crack hit for hit. Thank the Almighty Goodness Being for Amazon. This bag seemed cheaper but I couldn't really picture how much 200+ was relative to my convenience store. The math checked out at about 1/3 the price on a per unit basis (9 cents vs 24 cents) though, I pulled the trigger. So glad I did. Let me tell you, it's a metric crap ton of hi chews. Way more volume than I expected. Picture a bag about a foot long by a foot wide and about 4-6 inches deep stuffed to the brim. This will seriously last me months, assuming my habit doesn't get probably literally worse than crack.

Perfect the first time! Second order was all smushed to one end. Still delicious!!
My coworkers all adore these candies. The first batch I got was flawless, but the second time I ordered, all the candies were smushed to one end of the wrapper.Doesn't really detract from the flavor though! The weird shape of the candy may put off some, so just be warned :)
