Moon Knight: Marc Spector Omnibus Vol. 1

Typical Dixon, in a good way! Action and intrigue that makes the book hard to put down.
Dixon's always been known as a writer of action but he never lets action hamper the plots. The humor is much more subtle than showy (a trap too many writers fall into). After his original title ended, Moon Knight was adrift in sub-par stories until this era. Finally, you see Marc accept his past as a mercenary and use those international experiences to inform his adventures. Frenchie gets lots of screen time as one-half of Team Moon Knight, which is refreshing. Dixon doesn't shy away from incorporating the Marvel Universe and handles crossovers the way they should be handled. Instead of treating crossovers as a chore, he makes each issue progress naturally. Sal Velluto draws great action and environments and has top storytelling skills. The legendary Russ Heath contributes art as well.

Huge download, fun storyline
I’d love to review the content of this book in the Kindle edition, but I have been unable to read it as it is a HUGE file which I have spent two days trying to download to either of my iPads or my Galaxy Tab. So, short of offloading every single app except Kindle, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to read it.I’m sure the content is excellent, though.Update 8 April 2023: finally got it to download into my Kindle app! And I am enjoying it. The story lines are a bit cheesy at times, but it’s a comic book and it was the 1980s. Things were way different then…I’d say plots were a bit more light-hearted than they are now. I’ve also been reading the current series, and like that just as much. So, be patient if you’re trying the Kindle edition, it’s worth the wait of downloading.

An enjoyable read
So this was the first time for me reading most of these stories & overall this is a very enjoyable collection.Moon Knight is a favorite character of mine - he's very versatile in terms of what stories you can tell using him - there's a lot of tales involving multiple personalities or mystic moon gods, but here we basically get adventure & street level superheroing. The first 24 issues are written by Dixon and Moon Knight is only Marc Spector here - no personality disorder. There are some well down breezy comics here. Not to say there;s not some high stakes at play, but the storytelling is very clear. The 1990s was a time well known for style over substance but here there's solid writing.Towards the end of the book we get a Ghost Rider team up, a solid Hobgoblin battle & a side kick plot thread tied up in an enjoyable batch of Spider-Man comics. The only downside for me was the 6 part Stained Glass Scarlet storyline written by J. M. DeMatteis. DeMatteis can be hit or miss for me - here it falls flat for me.But no biggie - I really am happy with this book.So c'mon Marvel - lets get MOON KNIGHT: MARC SPECTOR OMNIBUS VOL. 2 announced ASAP!

On progress
I've read a little less then half, and it does seem that maybe the story is at a turning point. It's pretty good, if not a little uninspired. There's something about it that seems a little 'catch all' there's plenty of throwbacks to the previous line (which I havnt read yet) but I dunno. Doesn't stick out, isn't doing anything in particular yet. Hoping it gets betterz however I do enjoy reading it, and look forward to reading more.Packaging was meh. In a box with little cushion. Almost every corner has taken damage. There has been a few ink smears on several pages. Nothing that gets in the way of reading, or even the images, but it's there's.Not sure if omnibusses are ever rated or whatever, but brand new, shrink wrap on, mine in particular at least would never be a '10' between the two companies.

Great omni, packaging needs improvement as usual
Omni is great, however Amazon really needs to learn how to package books. First omni arrived in an oversized box and no padding at all. Bottom corner front cover was dinged bad and like maybe 20 pages or more bunched/bent in. Returned for replacement. Replacement arrived next day so that was good at least, not packaged any better but isn't damaged this time at least.
