The residents of Lake Eden, Minnesota, are planning to paint the town red, white, and blue to celebrate the Fourth of July--but the fireworks are already going off at Hannah Swensen's bake shop, The Cookie Jar. . . Lemon Meringue Pie Murder Hannah Swensen thought she'd finally discovered the recipe for a perfect life. But her sometime beau Norman Rhodes tosses a surprise ingredient into the mix when he phones to tell her he's just bought a house from local drugstore clerk Rhonda Scharf--which he plans to tear down in order to build the dream home he and Hannah designed. It seems the plan has been cooking for quite some time, and Hannah's shocked. Especially since her ring finger is still very much bare. . . The good news is that the soon-to-be-torn-down house is full of antiques--and Norman has given Hannah and her mother first dibs. They uncover some gorgeous old furniture, a patchwork quilt. . .and Rhonda Scharf's dead body. A little more sleuthing turns up the half-eaten remains of a very special dinner for two--and one of The Cookie Jar's famous lemon meringue pies. Now it's up to Hannah to turn up the heat--and get busy tracking down clues. Starting in her very own kitchen. . . Includes nine original cookie and dessert recipes for you to try! "Fun. . .frothy. . .Enticing recipes for cookies and other treats, presented with helpful procedural hints, are an extra bonus." -- Publishers Weekly Review: Relaxing and Interesting Read - This is the second book in the series and was just as interesting as the first. The happenings aren't extremely intense and that is a welcome relief sometimes. I like a variety in my reading. Joanne Fluke's books have a down home style with many likable characters. A great book to read with coffee and cookies. Review: Great recipes! - I just love these mysteries, nothing too, gruesome and always interesting. Hannah is a fun heroine, and her family is always amusing. The murder of Rhonda, black sheep of the town comes as a total surprise to the folks of Mount Eaton. It’s nice, though that in helping solve the crime, Hannah also takes care of other people in town such as Freddy. It was a good suspect, and the plot was good enough that it didn’t , lend you the answer to the crime before the end of the book. There were several people who were suspect, and the author did a great job of keeping us guessing. Of course, the best part for me will always be the recipes and I can’t wait to try, the pineapple bars they sound so delicious. My mother made the best pineapple upside down cake, and it will be nice to try this pineapple right side up bars, or whatever it was she called them. So settle back for a delicious read and then join me in making some of these great desserts

Look out for Hannah Swensen, she will find the killer every time. The mystery is how she gets there!!
I love the Hallmark series but the books have more details and tell everything so vividly! If you follow Hannah Swensen, you get really in b her head and..... well just read it. I wish I could afford to buy more, because I read them so fast. But in a while I will get another one. So so good!

Zesty and refreshing with the perfect bite of crime
The fourth and truly mouthwateringly delightful book in any baker's dream series hasn't disappointed. If anything it's my favorite so far, so cute in fact that I'm all ready breezing through the next novel; I wasn't ready to let go of Hannah just yet so I had to come back for another bite of crime and cookies. In this series it's best to read in order because key characters are quickly killed off in each book and not starting at the very beginning will ruin some surprises. Hannah Swensen is quite an interesting character, while innocent and sweet she ends up with a nose for crime solving since she is always stumbling across dead bodies. Unable to choose between two men who are giving her mixed signals she happily works away at Lake Eden's coziest place, The Cookie Jar Bakery. Busy with her expanding career and trying her best to fend off her mother Delores and her constant knack for butting in, Hannah discovers another dead body, somehow her luscious Lemon Meringue Pie ends up in the house of the deceased and with a table set for two, only one slice eaten raises suspicions on Hannah's part. The problem is that Norman, one of her suitors has purchased the home in which the body has been found, and he can't take it down to build another one until the police straighten up the matter. Hannah of course gets involved, creates some new cookie recipes that the author graciously shares and gets into all sorts of trouble on her way to the truth. So far this was one of the more intricate murder mysteries I have read in a cozy mystery type of a book, these are cute novels with charm oozing out, not hard crime thrillers, but there is something delicious and satisfying about them, especially with all the coffee drinking and baking going on, not to mention the hilarious daily escapades of a woman and her cat and everyone else who finds the need to try and involve themselves in her life. It's not a graphic or loud series; it has a slightly old fashioned charm, but just a teeny bit to make it really appealing, if anything it makes the book more honest and down to earth. I can't wait to bake some of the cookies in this book, the Pecan and the Banana cookies will get tested in my kitchen soon, it's really hard to read about them and not try some. One thing that gets to me is the amount of coffee Hannah drinks; I think only a fictional character can down that much joe and not turn into a cactus. - Kasia S.

too shallow
I've read so far 4 books from this series. I've read Diane Mott Davidson's Goldie Lock Series. After the 13th book I felt her story lines were getting too repetitive so I thought I should try a different series. A friend of mine gave me the first book of Hannah Swensen series to try. The first book felt rather shallow. But it had some humorous side and her love triangle was building up so I tried 3 more books. If you have read her first book, you have read them all. Well, at least through book 4. Every book (so far) has the same story line. The police in Lake Eden, Mn is not smart enough so they always have to get help from Hannah Swensen. She juggles her business (by heavily relying on her former employee and current business partner, Lisa) and her love triangle with Mike and Norman. But those guys are so nice and friendly to each other, you'd wonder if they will ditch Hannah and form a relationship with each other in the next book. Of course about half way through the book you, the reader, would know who the killer is but Miss Swensen doesn't know that. Because she always blurts out the key evidence/the proof at the killer, she always gets in trouble at the end. This series has nothing unexpected or surprise that I think a good mystery should have. I think I've read enough of Hannah Swensen Mystery.

Fun, easy read
I really like the Hannah Swenson murder mystery series. I'm currently on book 9 (this is book 4), which should tell you I'm hooked. The books are quick, easy and fun to read and always keeps me guessing until the end. I also love the fact that every novel comes with several recipes for delicious desserts, and even some savory items. I'm even debating buying the cookbook so I will have all the recipes in one place!

Love it!!
I practically sat down and read it in one sitting - just couldn't put it down. Was continually waiting to find out who did it, and how relationships developed between Hannah and Norman and Mike. In this book Norman buys a house, only to discover a dead body in the basement. Truly can't wait for the next instalment to arrive on my kindle and see what other murder mysteries our sleuthing cook can get involved in.

I love Hanna Swensen
