This type of talisman/amulet was NOT allowed by the Prophet (PBUH) AT ALL. Best case scenario, it really is just zamzam water and ayatul kursi, but wearing it around your neck is the equivalent of wearing your pills around your neck so that you will get better. Zamzam water is for drinking, not wearing, and ayatul kursi is for RECITING. The term qur'an means that which is frequently recited, and there is ABSOLUTELY benefit in wearing it or hanging it in your house. There are some very strong hadith about the use of talismans and amulets. For example,"It was narrated from `Uqbah ibn `Aamir al-Juhani that a group of people came to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), and he accepted the allegiance of nine and refrained from accepting the allegiance of one. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, you accepted the allegiance of nine and not this one." He said: "He is wearing an amulet." He put his hand in and took it off, then he accepted his allegiance, and said: "Whoever uses an amulet has committed shirk (has associated partners with Allah)." [Masnud Ahmed]If you want something beautiful and unique, either buy a piece of jewelry solely for ornamental use, or if you want something spiritual, READ the quran so that it will actually make a benefit in your life. The words of the quran are a cure when RECITED and listened to attentively, and when you understand the meaning, it contains the prescription to living a life that pleases Allah (swt). Don't think that you can take an easier way by WEARING it. Again, would you WEAR your medicine? How about a textbook, hoping that you will ace the test without knowing what's in it? Because surely that will be the situation of those on the day of judgement who simply wore the quran without reading it. You won't know the answers to Allah's (swt) questions. The quran talks about the jews who carried their books without practicing them, like donkeys who carry books and don't know what is inside. I would hate for any of my Muslim brothers or sisters to be in that situation in this life or the next, carrying miracles on their necks with no true appreciation for their value.
