An excellent concise read without the fluff
I bought this book on its opening day and received it on Saturday. 48 hours later and I've finished it. This is because as well as being very readable it was also not an overly long book. Some might see this as being poor value for money but I saw it more as providing quality over quantity. It could have been much longer but that would in no way have enhanced it as a great read. Brevity is usually best I find and this hits that sweet point of providing enough information without becoming boring.Rob states many times that a more in depth description or analysis could have been made in certain areas, but for the purpose of this book (which is understanding the financial and economic system we find ourselves in today) that would not be beneficial. While I broadly understood most of the concepts in this book beforehand I didn't fully appreciate the magnitude of many of them. The graphs helped to explain this very clearly and when for example you look at the purchasing power of gold vs the pound over the past 100 years it is very easy to see which has been the superior store of wealth. The insidious nature of inflation is such that we don't normally notice it year by year although now it is blazened over the news on a daily basis, it suddenly becomes clearer that we've all been gradually robbed during our lives. It's just that now we're being robbed far more quickly!I now understand how the central bank and commercial banks act together to implement policies such as QE which always seemed like a bit of a dark art previously. I must admit it does take some getting your head round, but as the book isn't too long - I will read it again to further cement my understanding. All in all a great read as Rob's previous books have also been. It is written in a style which makes some fairly complex concepts far easier to absorb than any economist could ever do, in a language which is easy to understand when coupled with real life examples.I agree with Rob that inflation is set to be considerably higher than most of us have ever been used to for a good while to come, while interest rates will struggle to reach levels seen in the 70's 80's or even the 90's due to reasoning clearly explained in the book. For this reason alone you should buy this book to further understand the economic landscape we are currently presented with and seems likely to continue for some time to come. Then at least you will stand a chance of actually prospering from the situation instead of being punished. The news headlines may seem scary (which they are intended to be) but sticking your head in the sand is not a viable option if you want to navigate the choppy waters we are currently faced with.

Superb - I could not put this book down!
Another fantastic resource from Rob Dix. This book is going straight onto my recommendations list.I started reading the book this morning and just had to keep going to the end.Rob has done a fantastic job of taking a complex and sometimes confusing topic and broken it down into a well structured, easily digestible, well researched book. The topic of money/the financial system is of critical importance to us all, but it can often feel like there is an un-ending tsunami of competing information from different sources (Politicians, financial institutions, journalists, family & friends!) - Rob cuts through it all with clear, concise explanations to help us all out. After setting the scene, explaining some key components of economics and reviewing recent events, Rob Dix goes on to set out some well reasoned core principles, future predictions and even a brief overview of his own approach to investment/finances - I found this part of the book very interesting and useful as I am sure others will too.I would recommend this to anyone and everyone, a fantastic book to aid your financial education.(As a side note: kudos to Rob for managing to limit the topic of property in this book it must have been a challenge but certainly worthwhile as this book is suitable for those who aren't necessarily interested in property investment. For anyone who enjoys this book and has an interest in property - be sure to check out his other books which are all fantastic reads).

An essential and accessible explanation
Having always thought of economics and anything remotely related to finance as too complicated and confusing, I am so glad that I didn't shy away from reading this accessible explanation of the whole topic. Written in a brilliant 'chatty' style and with some timely humour, it was easier to follow than I expected. That is not to say it was a frivolous or condescending explanation, it wasn't...it was serious and extremely informative with valid and encouraging advice. This book has helped make sense of the home and global economy for me. Thank you, Rob, for such an important, informative and accessible explanation. Highly recommended.

Economics for Dummies
I took this book on holiday and made it my mission to complete it and hopefully come back with a basic understanding of economics and maybe a future investment strategy. I certainly got more than a basic understanding and picked up a lot of new and interesting knowledge and as I’m already an ‘asset owner’ it appears that I’m on the right track for the later too. Rob’s style of writing makes it easy to read and understand, even the more complicated and mind blowing elements of World economics. If you want to dive deeper, you’ll have a better idea of where to aim after reading this book. It’s also ‘current’ and helps to define the differences in today’s environment to that of the past. I’d be surprised if anyone didn’t get enough value from this book to at least cover the cost, but more likely you’ll use the knowledge to make much better decisions about how you spend, borrow and invest regardless of how much or how little you have.

Great read and right level of detail/complexity
I'm American - this book is about the Bank of England - and I've been trying to piece together how QE/deficit spending comes together to produce inflation beyond the overly simple "too much money chasing too little goods". Weird to find a book that works for me on the Bank of EnglandAnyway this book - for me - tells the story in a way that's both really easy to read and appropriate for my level of understanding, which I'd say is mediocre to intermediateRecommending it actively across my friends

Rating this book a 5 out of 5 was a no brainer...
First off this book is for ppl who aren't familiar with economics, central bank operations, etc. (You know, all the stuff we should've learned in school). He breaks it down in a very clear and easily digestible way that's actually quite humorous at times. I read this in less than 24 hrs.... it was that enlightening. Kudos and much thanks to the author.
