Incredible Shave. Pleasant lite scent.
As with all Truefitt & Hill products this is an excellent shaving cream. I was pleasantly surprised by the light refreshing scent of this cream. I usually stay away from the perfumed products and was a little hesitant with trying this scent, but after reading other reviews that commented on the light fresh scent I relented and decided to give it a whirl. As I work in a medical practice I do not like to wear heavy scents, this was not an issue with the 1805 fragrance. I found it to be light with a mild spice that leaves a pleasant undertone throughout the day, I would equate it to maybe a classic ocean faring scent, my wife says it smells more floral (I was unable to detect this floral aspect), and states that she does like the scent. The cream itself is excellent, as would be expected from this very reputable manufacturer. There were no disappointments to be found here. The cream is very luxuriant and incredibly slick and smooth, and I did get an incredibly close shave, that resulted in neither razor burn nor nicks. I will say that this is a premium shaving cream and probably does work better with a higher end badger brush, probably best badger at the least. I say this due to the fact that it worked best with slightly more water than I would use with a D R Harris or TOBs cream but closer to what I expect when using the G F trumper creams. I state this only because I know the difference I achieve in lather between my pure badger brushes and my silver tip brushes as the latter are able to retain much more water. I do not view this as a negative as this is a premium cream and thereby may be expected to work optimally with premium accessories (this is of course an assumption on my part). I will however test this cream with my pure badger brushes to confirm my speculation and will update this review If I find my that I am in error. (I apologize to any boar brush users as I am unable to test this, as I do not own one) UPDATE!!! I must admit that I was mistaken in my earlier conclusion about brushes. I used my least expensive pure badger His Tweezerman Deluxe Shaving Brush (my travel brush) thinking I would work up from here. The shaving cream lather was excellent, while it was slightly thicker than I prefer when using my silver tip brush, it still lathered excellently. I was concerned that it would not hold lather for all three of my passes and my final touch up pass, but the concern proved false as there was ample lather for the complete shave. I did add drips of water to base of brush through lathering process in order to thin a little as it did remain a bit thicker on the brush. I therefore must revise my earlier comment and say this is just an excellent cream regardless of the brush you are using. Although my personal preference would be that I like the consistency offered by a brush that retains a little more water. I shave with the same ritual daily, only substituting one item at a time when trying new products. 1. Homemade shave oil that I apply in the shower and allow to soak in to beard and skin. 2. Face wash with Musco Real Glycerin lime soap. After showering. 3. Taylor of Old Bond Street Herbal Pre-shave Gel 4. Truefitt & Hill 1805 Shave Cream Jar 5. Applied with Kent Brushes Shaving Brush Large Size (BK8) 6. Edwin Jagger De89bl Double Edge Safety Razor Chrome Plated with Feather Hi-Stainless Platimum Double Edge Razor Blades 100 Ct 7. Hot then cold water wash then alum applied. RazoRock Alum Block (Clean and replace shaving gear while this is allowed to sit on face, followed by cold water rinse.) 8. Geo F. Trumper's Limes Skin Food, 200ml Applied to towel dried skin and not diluted with water. Two drops is sufficient to cover entire face and neck. I allow this to soak in while I brush teeth. 9. Aftershave by Feather (unscented during work days) non work days Castle Forbes Lime Oil Aftershave Balm Again applied to dried skin.

Luxury Cream Fit for Royalty
I can see why generations of English Royalty and dignitaries prefer this brand. This is truly a luxurious shaving cream fit for a King. Did you know that they found a tub of Truefitt & Hill shaving cream in the ruins of the Titanic? It's true. Look on Truefitt's website. Before I used any Truefitt & Hill product, I was kind of skeptical because I previously used The Art of Shaving creams. Don't get me wrong, The Art of Shaving does a great job of making an excellent cream. But I must say, you really get what you pay for. If I had to rate this cream, I would say it is ten steps above The Art of Shaving's products. And the tub seems to last forever. I am addicted to the way Truefitt's 1805 smells! It awakens your senses in the morning. It is a true pleasure to shave in the morning. As far as lather, this cream creates a thick and fluffy whipped up concoction that leaves your skin smooth and smelling great. I thought the fragrance would irritate my skin. It didn't at all. You may want to try a Truefitt sample pack. You can purchase it by going directly on their website so that you can sample all of their creams and fragrances. You could use Truefitt's pre-shave oil, but, you may be able to get away with not using it since this is a very moisturizing cream. The best way I could describe the smell is oceanic and masculine. After I'm done with my three shave passes, I apply Truefitt & Hill 1805 Aftershave Balm and then Trufitt & Hill 1805 Cologne . If you're new to double edged shaving, you may want to pay attention to some other items in my shave rotation. Keep in mind these are all suitable for sensitive skin: Merkur Progress Long-Handle Adjustable Safety Razor #510 Geo F. Trumper Coconut Oil Soft Shaving Cream 75 g cream 100 Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Pre-Shave Oil (Large - 4 oz.) 100% Silvertip Badger Bristle Shaving Brush with Faux Petrified Wood Handle & Free Brush Stand from Parker Safety Razor Castle Forbes Lime Oil Shaving Cream Castle Forbes Lime Oil Aftershave Balm Avocado Shaving Cream 5.3oz shaving cream by Taylor of Old Bond Street Truefitt & Hill Rose Shaving Cream Travel Tube Truefitt & Hill Lavender Shaving Cream If you don't have any Truefitt & Hill shaving cream in your shave rotation (especially 1805), then pick it up immediately! There's a reason why the company is still around since 1805. They have to be doing something good.

Good value, great shave!
So, how can a $30 tub of soap possibly be worth it? Trust me... Soak your badger-hair brush in some hot water and lets chat. At $15, my former favorite shave soap (Proraso) would last me 3-4 months of 3/4" tube dollops, and make a decent whipping-cream texture. At $30, a tub of Truefitt and Hill will last me a full 7 months, shaving a few cents from every shave. Then there is the soap itself... Less drying than a Colonel Conk, creamier and stiffer than a Proraso. It beats half a dozen other creams I've tried and tossed. It's the perfect blend of creamy and stiff on the face, and lends itself to a great shave. The scent is nice (either the 1805 or Trafalgar), yet not overbearing. So, take your dampened brush, whisk off 4 mild shakes of water, swish it lightly around the tub of cream 5 times, and start stirring up a lather in your shaving mug of choice. Yes, you can lather on the face, and that will do well in a pinch -- but that much water and that much soap will give you plenty of fluffy-stiff lather to do 4-5 passes with your single-blade or double-blade safety razor. For an even closer shave, you can use some of the Truefitt and Hill pre-shave oil -- or make up a batch of your own with a ratio of 3:1 olive oil to castor oil, along with a couple of drops of essential oil for scent. Follow that up with some Proraso pre-shave cream as a cooling after shave, and you've got about the best shave you can get. Great stuff... Enjoy!

A true classic shave cream.
I returned to traditional wet shaving 15 years ago and since then I have tried multiple shave creams. This became one of my favorites and it hasn’t changed over the years. It’s a classic masculine scent that’s not overpowering but has a definite presence. Just a small amount the size of an almond applied with a shaving brush is enough. It provides a slick cushion for shaving unlike any canned product.

Awesome cream
I have been shaving with a safety razor now for 2 years evey day except weekends, and have used quite a few different creams. What I like about this shaving cream is first it has a subtle scent clean not overpowering. Secondly it is nice and thick and very humectant on the skin you dont need much. Some people like my brother in-law state "that they have difficulty making foam and have to really work it. I don't have that problem, but I do use a synthetic silver tip badger brush from Muhler which holds water very well and does not degrade as easily. Another thing that really helps is a shaving scuttle, but one for cream not a bar. George town pottery has some nice ones they make them with these little bumbs on the bottom of the scuttle and this also helps to make a real rich lather and then with the hot water in it oh my god what a luxury. I could never go back to a cartridge razor. If you haven't tried shaving with a safety razor you need to make the jump you'll never go back. Big tex

Worth the premium
There are countless dirt-cheap shaving creams out there, and for the most part, based on my experience, they're just fine, but Truefitt & Hill is in a whole different league. 1805 is my favorite fragrance, but even their sandalwood, which pretty much every shave cream maker out there offers, blows the competition out of the water. And overall the quality of shave I get with this stuff is considerably better than anything else I've tried, with a close second being L'Occitane's Cade Rich Shaving Cream (*not* the stuff in the tube). Typically I'd use Personna blades, but Truefitt & Hill creams allow me to step up to Feather blades, which are notably sharper and usually result in a bit of irritation when I use them with other creams. The price is definitely a downside, with this stuff costing double or triple some of the other options, so you might not want to make this your daily driver (but it is mine, because I just thoroughly enjoy it, and because I'm saving so much $ not using cartridges I think it's worthwhile), but I can honestly say I do think it's worth the premium.

GREAT product - Not for sensitive skin!
This was my first go with TrueFitt & Hill Shaving Cream, and I'm a fan... with a caveat. I have been a Taylor of Old Bond Street user for years, and thought I'd give this a try. The smell of this is similar to TOBS "Eton College" scent. It's clean, fresh and not overpowering. It creates a fantastic creamy, slick lather that lasts without having to reapply, and it lifts the stubble perfectly for a comfortable shave. But... while it was great on my face, it caused slight irritation on my neck, and severe irritation on the back of my neck - even with a new razor. 4 stars for a great scent, a great lather and excellent performance. -1 for the irritation.

Worth the money
Got the 1805 as I have been looking for a switch to my routine. Had previously used SJoL and was using Jack Black triple. I will stick with Truefitt & Hill. Truly impressed with every part of this cream. It whips up well in a bowl with a brush, provides a very soft glide across my face. I used a merkur 34c with feather blades so I need a cream that can balance that. The 1805 is a really unique scent. It's more subtle than I would have expected given the various notes listed, but it was present without overpowering. The most impressive part of this cream was how well it held moisture when applied to my face. It was still perfect by the time I finished shaving every area. If you're looking at this page, you're looking for a high end cream. This is the one to get.

Crema fantastica

Clean smell, and helps reduce irritation
Clean smell that's not overpowering, and is easy to create a nice lather foam. Definitely helped me minimize (if not stop) cuts from using a safety razor and is building my confidence up towards moving to a single edge razor now. Lasts about a year (I use a few dabs each shave about once a week) which is also a plus as I don't break the bank.

Great smelling shaving cream
This shaving cream has a lovely smell to it. Not too overpowering though. It lathers up very easily and you only need to use a tiny bit. I don't shave everyday (I work from home a lot). So a pot this size often lasts me 6 months. So although it may seem expensive, it goes a long way. Certainly cheaper and much nicer that the standard canned shaving foams/gel. I moved over to double edged razors just over a year ago. And, I definitely wouldn't go back. This shaving cream is definitely my favourite now. I also use Truefitt and Hill pre-shave oil. Which also smells lovely and works well to produce a smoother shave.
