Will this work on a c5 corvette ?

Well, yes but. It's REALLY tight in there, up against the fuse box. Figure on cursing and scraped knuckles. You can't swing a wrench and a socket won't fit in there. I pulled the battery loose, first attached the - cable to the switch, then attached using the long bolt and my fingers. Finished up with a very short wrench from my toolbox. A real pain but the switch seems to work well and makes disconnecting a breeze.

Why does it have to be connected to the negative terminal and not the positive terminal?

That's ok, positive or negative can be connected. We recommend to install this cut off switches on the negative, not the positive, because lower current in negative, will be more safety. The switch can be install in the negative/positive wire, another short battery cable or cut existing cable and attach terminals on each end.

Does this disconnect work on newer model cars

1. you will need about a 3" space next to the negative terminal in order to have room to install this switch. 2. depending on the vehicle you will need clearance for the "knife" to be up in order to close the hood, or it could be installed so it opens to the side if there is enough room there. 3. disconnecting the battery may require radio code for the radio to operate again after removing the power. Other functions may be affected too like the clock, possibly other functions as well 4. you will need the proper tool to tighten the bolt to the battery otherwise it will move about as you operate the switch. I am using this on a full size chevy snow plow yard truck (off road only) with plenty of room and I don't need the clock, that one does not need radio codes after disconnection. Look at the pictures carefully to decide if it will fit on your vehicle, if it fits, it will work.
