I've found my forever EDC knife.
This knife is a stunning work of art and science, and the fit and finish is on par with what Benchmade usually releases as a "Gold Class" knife for twice the price. You can see the quality that Benchmade puts into their products. The AXIS-lock system is buttery smooth after working it in a bit, and the blade has a rock solid lock-up. The carbon fiber scales are almost holographic, in that they change appearance depending on your viewing angle - very cool! The blade is S90V, which should take on a keenness, and hold an edge, as good as (or better than) anything else out there. The blade has a beautiful stonewashed finish that looks great with the carbon fiber - better IMO than a regular stainless finish would look, and it showcases the fine grain of the (very carbide-heavy) steel along the edges. This blade is everything that I look for in an EDC. For the size, this is easily the lightest knife I've ever encountered. Ultra-lightweight, travels well, pocket clip allows for a reasonably deep pocket carry, and blade length is legal in my state. It looks and feels pretty durable, the open back design makes it a breeze to clean, and it's classy enough that this knife straddles the "gentleman's knife" category. Those who are knowledgable about knives and/or read on any of the knife forums will understand what I mean when I say that this is a perfectly good choice for a "grail knife." My one gripe follows: This knife comes in a standard Benchmade blue box, upon which is printed "Handle with care. Benchmade knives are packaged extremely sharp." This was not the case for me, as the knife arrived with an edge somewhere between a butter knife and an old Buck 110 that I haven't sharpened in a couple years. I've read that this is a common complaint with Benchmade knives, so I don't feel that I got a "bad one" or anything... just nitpicking, I suppose, and I'm entitled for the price of admission! Having said all that, I do enjoy sharpening knives, and can't wait until my new sharpening supplies arrive so that I can find out just how tough it is to sharpen S90V by hand. :O I could always send it to Benchmade to take advantage of their lifetime sharpening service, but I don't want to let it out of my sight! All in all, I'm very pleased with this knife and fully expect it to provide decades, if not a lifetime, of dependable service. I'll post a follow-up after I've sharpened the S90V blade freehand... from what I've read, it's a PITA to sharpen.

This is the knife to own !!
This is the perfect knife ! (for me) I have been wanting this for a while now. I own the original 940 Green osborne and multiple flavors of the Spyderco Para 3s. Overall they all are great knives. Why I gravitated towards this 940-1 are the following. - Doesnt jack up my pockets - Original spoon pocket clip has perfect retention and easily pulled in and out of the pockets - Love the carbon fiber slabs - perfect ratio of traction and grip, doesnt get cold like the aluminum scales - Aesthetically its a beautiful knife from the materials to blade grind and stone washed s90v steel - Lightweight, rides in the pocket really well, too damn good actually (very small foot print) - I work in the office and field so it transitions well in both environment, truly made for EDC purposes - With the smooth carbon fiber scale it is easy to clean along with the open back design, whereas on my G10 pm3 it will atract alot of dead skin, little more difficult to clean but not impossible, my original osborne does not have a flow through design so debris will start collecting inside - Very fidgety knife, i cant stop playing with it LOL Con: Only con would be the pricing, my fit and finish was ok especially for the price.. I had to tweak it a little bit to get good blade centering. The action is good after I applied some knife pivot lube, and loctite so keep that perfect tension. I rotate mostly between this and the Bugout with Rogue Bladework carbon fiber scales, my PM3's gets weekend pocket time. My original 940 Osborne is now a nightstand knife UPDATE** omega spring broke...now sending it back to benchmade; they wont send out replacements UPDATE** 10/19/2021 Still loving this 940-1 ! s90v is amazing while my collection grows this is my one all be all knife ! --

Best EDC but not for Hard Use!
Other reviewers have described this knife as being the best EDC knife. I would agree with a caveat or two! Just depends on what you are looking for? I don't believe I would say this knife is the optimal knife for self defense or a "hard use" knife. The blade does not seem like one great for prying due to its small height. The butt end of the handle does not appear to be conducive for hammering! Though, I'm not a self defense expert this is probably not the first knife to choose but it is a knife and will cut. The knife is without question worth the money if you are looking for extremely light, low pocket presence, but still substantial blade/cutting surface. I feel this knife also looks classy and not scary when bringing it out of your pocket and opening. There is no flipper. You have to use thumb studs to open. My only complaint about this knife is I wish it had a little thumb groove in the carbon fiber to allow access to the thumbstud at more of an angle. It's a minor gripe as it doesn't take much to get used to but would have been nice. I use and semi-collect knives. I like getting knives of different blade steels/handle materials and tend to lean more toward the better versions of production knives. This is my first Benchmade and first S90V blade steel. My knife came hair shaving sharp which from reviews is not always the case. I lean more toward knife makers that offer sharpening services as I'm awful at it myself. Benchmade does offer this service and is well known for good customer service. ZT is another good brand and both offer relatively cheap blade replacement also. One other item to note is that i have a knife with aluminum handles and it is very slick. I believe the carbon fiber even with no true texture or machining in the handle grips better than aluminum handles. I mention this because I believe the regular 940 has aluminum handles. Very glad I purchased this knife. If your'e looking for EDC or a knife to use in any situation that is not necessary "hard use" then I would completely recommend the 940-1.

Workhorse knife for everyday use
I bought the version made with CPM-S90v steal (if I remember the number right) and also got myself a strop leather bar and a sharpening stone. The knife only needs to be stropped after a full day of cutting boxes and more often if you use it for heavier uses, especially outdoors where tree sap can get on your blade. It keeps it's edge and I have a friend with the knife who has not had to redo the bevel or sharpen it since he got one. So, if you clean it with alcohol or soap and water and then strop it you should keep it in good quality and sharp without much effort. I recommend breaking it in the first day or two by flipping it out a lot and back so you get used to it's movement and make it second nature. Benchmade are good knifes but it is my first and it is a unique action compared to other knifes with the locking mechanism taking a bit to get used to but my knife came perfect, I can flip it out without engaging the unlock mechanism and it was centered perfectly. The screws are star bits and there are 3 or 4 sizes you would need but I have them already. The belt clip can be mounted on either side and comes set for a right hander with the blade tip up so it comes out of my pocket perfectly. It does not print much at all and the carbon handle on the 940-1 that I purchased makes it super light. Worth every penny.

Perfectly Made Knife
this is my first Benchmade knife purchase and i can say i'm 100% satisfied. i've read some great reviews on this knife as being the best and most popular one. what really got me was the quality it seemed to have, the beautiful carbon fiber grips make it sooo lightweight which is perfect, you don't have to feel the thing sinking to the bottom of your pocket. i love the clip, smooth and easy to latch on the pocket. the blade came really sharp, and what i love about it is the "lifesharp" warranty it has, i use my knife a whole lot and this makes it so much easier to deal with when it goes full instead of me ruining the blade. this knife is absolutely gorgeous and feels great at hand, the locking mechanism is so smooth and crisp. i recommend this to anyone who needs a great quality knife for the decent price, i'd say it's completely worth it! well done benchmade, just found my new knife source!

... knife for over a month now and it is excellent. Very light
I have had this knife for over a month now and it is excellent. Very light, well balanced, good size but slim enough to carry easily. Luckily mine seems to have been a good pass through QC because the blade is centered, and the fit and finish are top quality. If you like a large thumb stud, this one may be a bit hard to get a hold of. It took me a little to get used to, but that was mostly figuring out the muscle memory for the right grip on the knife for deployment and closing one handed. However, it would probably help if there was a slight bevel or groove on the scales right where the stud is to give you an extra millimeter or so of grip on it. I would consider it myself as a modification if I can figure out a good way to make it clean, not mess up the carbon fiber, and make sure Benchmade would not see it as a modification that disqualifies it from the lifetime warranty. I really like the blade design/shape with the reverse tanto tip. It is just as good at light weight piercing cuts as a drop point blade. Heavier ones where you need to get your weight behind the knife would be more problematic, but I typically would be using a full tang fixed blade for such heavy tasks, and would not expect an EDC folder to handle it anyways. This was more than twice what I have ever paid for a knife before, but so far seems well worth it, and this will likely be my EDC for years to come.

Fantastic and disappointing at the same time
Wow... Alright, so this blade replaced my Kershaw as an EDC blade something like 2yrs ago. It's one of the most gorgeous knives I've ever seen(the carbon grips are hypnotic), but it's been the only Benchmade I've regretted owning. Overall, I like it, but I question it day to day. I've made sure not to baby this blade and it's seen decent abuse. What's prompted this review today is the pocket clip breaking in the stupidest way... It got caught on a couch cushion and when I attempted to standup it snapped. I'm shocked. (Will include photos) At least the handle didn't crack... Gonna contact Benchmade and see what they say. Pros: -keeps an edge -cleans up well -a great conversation starter -pretty solid build Cons: -blade wiggle while closed -adjustment screw backs out -evidently weak pocket clip If you're looking for an EDC, this might not be it... As a specialty collectible - more like it.

the knife is beautiful and the carbon fiber really makes it stand out
I own this and the Syderco Paramilitary 2 (Sprint Run S35V). I carry this almost every day instead of any of my other knifes. As others said, the knife is beautiful and the carbon fiber really makes it stand out. Yes, it is very light, I do not notice I am even carrying it. The action is butter smooth. Not only does it open very easy (basically any knife can do this...it also closes much easier than other knives I own. This is not something many people consider, but it makes operating the knife much more pleasurable. Others have had issues with their knives arriving dull, but mine came with a very fine edge. Yes, the knife is expensive, but it is an investment that should last your whole life. Not to mention top quality S90V steel. If you are thinking of this or the Spyderco (or other brands), I would wholeheartedly suggest this knife.

Mucho ruido y pocas nueces
