The BT 50 is a great little product, easy to use, clear on screen prompts and results/conclusions/advice etc. Takes the hard work, the guesswork, out of, battery testing and charge circuit testing.I read several online pro user reviews, various blogs, watched You Tube clips and read Amazon reviews before settling on this brand and model. I wanted good accuracy, on a budget, thus value for money and something easy and quick to use.The BT50 arrived quickly and was put straight to work.I have an old school - discharge type - tester and a multimeter, they work well, up to a point, although the former isn't great at checking charging faults. There is room with these devices for inaccuracies and errors to creep in though, so one has to be on their A game, I'm not always these days.We had a battery fail unexpectedly on one of our cars so I needed to double check all of my multimeter and discharge meter results as there was some contradiction and anomalies (to be expected). I also had a 12v backup battery that I knew was coming to the end of its life and I knew what was wrong with it and I thought I'd test the BT50 on that battery first as a cross-check.The BT50 was easy to set up and use, nice prompts on the screen etc and easy to see (I'm in my late fifties). It also confirmed what was wrong with this backup battery, including an ohms rating and it's capacity, which was very low at 6%. Which is all as I expected as the battery had sulfated etc.With the car starter/power battery, the BT50 confirmed my suspicions, gave me similar, but more accurate, readings as my hard won prior calculations. The new replacement battery was tested and the BT50 did the same work, easily, concisely etc. All of which gave me confidence for my next task.When it came time to test the charging circuit (Alternator, Diode and Voltage Regulator) it was the same easy process - my partner sat in the car and set the revs to 2500 rpm for 5 seconds - test done. The test report was clear and had all the information that I needed. Also with each test 'report' there's a final summing up in words, so one then knows, if the charging system is faulty or a battery has failed.Not all battery failures are due to battery age etc, if a charging system is over or under charging a battery, both can be equally harmful to a battery, costly too if one keeps replacing batteries without checking the charging system!I no longer work on cars or bikes regularly, so using a multimeter is okay, a bit labourious, but there's often head scratching as I try to recall learnt knowledge from forty years ago! My crude but effective discharge meter will give me basic rudimentary information and between that and a multimeter, one has to apply previous knowledge and experience to fault diagnose.This device, the BT50, is so easy to use I'd say it's almost fool proof, ideal for a DIYer, amateur enthusiast, or average car owner. Perfect to use in the current economic climate to fault diagnose even if you do end up taking it to a garage - you'll be armed with all of the pertinent information before hand so won't get fobbed off or worse, ripped off. Or, after testing, if you only need a battery, with basic DIY knowledge (and perhaps a cheap EBD backup device), you can buy and fit your own battery, thus saving money.It's early days, but hopefully the BT50 will be long lived and useful for the extended family and me to keep an eye on battery health (and when to condition charge) across several cars.My only concerns are the modern trend towards soft feel cable sheathing, which can, in my experience, can go gooey, sticky and disintegrate. The BT50 looks to be a quality product though so I'm hoping that this won't be an issue.Over all, so far, I recommend it.

I purchased the Topdon BT50 as for a while I've been experiencing a few issues when starting my vehicle in the mornings, usually when leaving the air conditioning switched on.This little device is a breeze to use and provided me with accurate information in relation to the general health and current charge of my battery.The unit comes well packaged and feels well made in the hand with quality clips to fasten to the battery plus and minus terminals, once fitted the unit came to life and following the detailed instruction manual gave me all the information I needed.I have since charged my battery fully and the results have changed to show this on the display and I have a happy battery again.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this item as one of the best battery testers available based on quality and functionality.

I tried the Topdon battery tester and was very pleased with the results.Easy to use with instructions that are easy to understand.Before using you need to check your battery info and input the values into the tester so it knows what kind of battery and output power it's supposed to readUnfortunately it showed my battery as needing to be replaced which confirms an earlier test I had at national tyres, so I know the tester is correct. It shows charging status, cranking charge and overall battery health( see attached photos)There's also a log for all tests so you can pull up earlier info when needed.I recommend the tester for checking batteries with ease.

Great well made unit. Alternator charging and cranking tests are really useful.

It works, gives simple readings

As a vehicle prep technician I inspect batteries on every car that comes through the workshop for battery health and state of charge, this tester is far faster and simpler to use than my old one and significantly smaller. Using it daily for the last week I'm very impressed, my only issue is that the English can be a bit broken. For instance it says "Good, Charging" when it should really say "Good, Needs Charging" very minor translation error but all in all, very impressed.
