Never got it completely set up as it stopped working
I purchased this Dell 8490 Tower Business Desktop to replace my main system in my home office, which is also a Dell XPS unit. That unit is very well built with a fantastic case. But even though its only 3 yrs old, it is not able to run Windows 11, which prompted me to replace it. Well, the Dell 8490 arrived and the very first thing I noticed is that the case is chinzy and cheap. It is affixed using two thumb screws which are awful and guaranteed to strip quickly. When I started to set the unit up, I got to the point where it was going to download updates and then reboot. At that point the problelms began. The system went into an infinite loop of shutting down and restarting and I never got to the Windows desktop. After literally several hours of letting the thing run, I finally concluded that it would never boot properly, so it was returned. After researching the issue online, I found that this seems to be a very common problem with this model and so I requested a full refund instead of a replacement unit. The reason I selected this particular computer was that it was the ONLY unit configured to my needs, which included 32 GB memory, 1 TB SSD, CD/DVD burner, an Intel i7-12700 CPU, and plenty of USB 3.0 ports for a variety of peripherals I have to connect. Seems you can no longer customize a system to your needs - you have to accept whatever configuration the manufacturer or their retailers put together. My recommendation based upon my experience which seems to be all-too-common with this model 8490 is to select another computer as your chances of getting one to run well are not very good.
