Walnut Classic Deer European Skull Mount Face Plate Plaque

I didn't like any of the low quality ridiculously patterned weapon mounts sold on Amazon. The ones I did like couldn't be shipped within the 2 day timeline I needed for a house warming party so I bought 2 of these instead. I modified these plaques with some pegs from a clearance Fred Meyer wall mounted coat hanger to create the mounting brackets for swords PROS: The wood is beautifully crafted, and reminds me of some of the high quality wood working I used to do in my high school construction class. Its not 100% symmetrical and I was a little worried it would be obvious once the swords were placed on the mounts but it really looks quite beautiful and the luster of the walnut makes most imperfections unnoticeable. CONS: Its a little easy to scratch so treat them well in your wood shop (garage) and don't place anything on them in a way that could tarnish it. The mounting bracket and hardware that comes with it is designed to drill straight through the center of the plaque and while that gives it good stability it's ugly. The bracket itself has a raised lip such that a screw could be slipped into it so it just hangs from the wall, but it doesn't come with a screw whose head fits in the lip. I don't know anything about Taxidermy nor mounting deer skulls so I'll give this a 5 star review since I'm not using it for its strictly intended purpose. But as a weapon mount its beautiful and if the seller crafted some pegs to go with it I'd call it the best weapon mount on Amazon.

Very nice plaque and beautifully finished solid walnut. I laid the skull on the plaque to center it and then drilled a hole at the top and middle for installing screws from underneath and into the skull. A standard drywall screw will fit the furnished hanger.

The plaque is great and worth the money. High quality and beautiful. The screw and hanger that come with the item can be disregarded. Use a quality screw to mount the skull onto the plaque and use a heavy duty hanger. You are mounting a mammal skull not an 8" x 10" of your first trip to disney world.

Good instructions and good price

The plaque is nice, the price is great but the hardware is trash. There's one long screw to go through the plaque and into the skull, one hanging bracket and 2 tiny screws. The bracket has a large opening and tapers down to grab the screw head but the large opening isn't big enough for you to put the screw head in without angling it so much that you can't get everything close to the wall. And the 2 tiny screws are 1/4" long. Buy it, use 2 long screws or drywall anchors to mount the bracket and then use a 3" drywall screw to mount the skull. You'll be able to mount the bracket flush on the wall and the drywall screw head will fit straight in and catch. I fought the original hardware for 30 mins before I grabbed new hardware from the garage and had it up in 90 seconds.
