Shimano RD-TY500 Tourney Rear DERAILLEUR

Perfect fit! Definitely a great value! I couldn't believe it was as inexpensive as it was! Made my bike gear change like new! I don't recommend DIY, though. Everything has to be aligned properly with the right tools. The shift cable may have to be cut to be replaced. Your chain may or may not have a master link, etc.

Easy to install and adjust. I also installed a new chain and 7 speed free wheel to n my 25 year old Schwinn Frontier. Also replaced the handlebar brake levers and shifters. This derailleur works well and shifts accurately.

Bought a new 34t low gear freewheel and quickly found out that my current derailleur wasn't up to the task. Decided on this due to price and the Shimano brand. If you're a weekend bike mechanic you may wish to look elsewhere unless you like a challenge. Because this derailleur doesn't come with set up instructions. So I originally had shortened the cable housing to be a straight shot to the derailleur. Because I needed more cable slack to run through the derailleurs cable path. But because of the pulley system that this one uses I found out fast it need to be an arc or a "C" shape for this to function right. In the first picture if you follow the cable from it's end you can make out the "C" shape I mentioned. Once I figured this out the rest was easy, just tuning. But this figuring took a half an hour. And as I stated before the instructions where no help. Just a product description. Getting the chain to make the 34T jump took a little doing but after some trial and error. I was able to get this working. I however run my own bike business. So this isn't my first setup of a new derailleur. It was my first of this type. That being said. Altogether install and tuning took me just under an hour. My advice is do the "C" shape with the housing. And pay close attention to the cable path through the derailleur. It's a tricky one. I gave this 4 stars simply because of the lack of instructions. I would have had this done in 15 minutes had there been an explanation of the products operation. Going to put some abusive miles on this set up today to see how it holds up. I'll let you know if there's an issue.

Shimano long-throw rear derailleur for 7/8 speed mountain bike. Attaches quickly to the derailleur hanger. Shimano quality and looks great with its black finishes. Easy set up of high/low gear. With proper cable tension shifting is quick and quiet.

Works great! Replaced my son's grip shifter on his 6 speed with this. Not too difficult, first time working on a bicycle

I snapped my rear mech after having my Giant hardtail about 7 rides. Bought this replacement and 4 rides later, it just snapped again. Gave that bike to a friend and he is going to upgrade components. This is not a great rear mech at all....

My only complaint is that this had no instructions and I’m not very experienced with bicycles, so I had to Google things. Adjusting took some time, but I think that’s to be expected for a novice. My son‘s bike is up and running again. I had trouble getting it tuned perfectly, so it sometimes (but not always) won’t shift on a specific gear, but I I’m fairly sure that is user error. Everything was solid and sturdy. My son rides his bikes hard and it’s holding up.

Funziona molto bene, con alcune considerazioni. Sul sito Shimano è riportato che è compatibile con al massimo ruote libere da 34T (ad esempio Shimano Megarange). L'ho montato su una ruota libera 34T ed effettivamente lavora veramente al millimetro, quasi a toccare i denti del pignone da 34 causando qualche lieve intoppo e calo di fluidità nel giro della catena. Per correggere tale comportamento dovrebbe venire in aiuto la "vite B" di regolazione dell'altezza della puleggia (l'unica che trovate oltre a quelle H e L) del deragliatore, peccato che se la girerete noterete che il cambiamento sarà davvero leggero. Dopo essermi informato scopro che è una caratteristica del TY500 (penserete che sia difettoso): quella vite di regolazione agisce poco, a differenza di deragliatori di gamma superiore. E' una vite-B per modo di dire. Pertanto se lo monterete su ruote libere da 34T dovrete avvitare del tutto la vite B, per far lavorare la puleggia più in basso possibile. Se invece volete una vera vite-B con regolazione significativa dell'altezza della puleggia dovete comprare dall'Acera in su. Detto ciò è un prodotto molto valido per il prezzo. Consigliato

Awesome just a Marvellous piece. This derailleur is best in its price. Delivery was OK by Amazon not very happy cause it took almost 10 Days to reach me, but the packaging was very very Good and it also came in its original box of shimano. If you have the budget and want to upgrade to a better derailleur go for it. It also look very High Profile.
