Water Shutoff Kit: 1" Brass Ball Valve + X3 Valve Controller

Very nice whole house protection for about the same cost as for one water heater! Installed several weeks ago into the space from an old water leak sensor shutoff in my soft water supply line in our garage. Fit perfectly, took maybe an hour to install tops. Liked that it was a direct valve control rather than an arm that moved an existing valve handle. Seems very solid quality. I felt way better having it inside the garage....pretty sure the plastic case would have suffered if I had installed it outside in our south facing water supply in Phoenix. Plugged it in, although apparently can run it off battery only. Programmed my leak sensors to shut off the valve if a leak is detected initially without WIFI, and then to work with WIFI. Feeling this is the proper sequence if you are worried you might have a power outage. Had some problems figuring out how to program multiple units so I reached out to their help team and had good instructions within a day or two. Works really well...Grandma was in the shower and let it get really steamy, which set the toilet sensor off, which shut off the water, which really surprised and peeved Grandma! Didn't mean to shut off her shower, but thrilled it was as sensitive as that! How to program multiple devices: WITHOUT WIFI (do this first, if you want it): Google Yo Link D2D pairing or use link: https://shop.yosmart.com/blogs/manuals/ys7903-manual . As I understand it, the problem with programming with WIFI first is that you can't tell whether the system is shutting off the water via Device to Device (D2D) or through the WIFI. If power goes out and it is programmed only through WIFI, you might not be protected. WITH WIFI (links above are great; mine below are a bit rough, but may help clarify the process, especially for pairing multiple devices). 1. open app on phone, click SMART on bottom of screen 2. Click AUTOMATION top right of screen 3. Click PLUS sign at top of screen 4. Click NAME and use name you use for one individual leak sensor 5. Click PLUS sign under WHEN, then choose your DEVICE ACTION 6. To have the sensor shut off water whenever a leak is detected, click your leak sensor with the same name and then 7. CHOOSE A RULE. My choice was to if WATER DETECTED, then 8. BEHAVIOR, click PLUS Sign, then DEVICE ACTION is to CHECK BOX on YO LINK VALVE, then CLOSE VALVE. Click CONFIRM, then click check marks to confirm. Then, at the valve with leak detector in hand, trip leak detector with a wet rag and make sure valve closes; open valve and then: 9. To program the next one, click the three dots to the right of the now-programmed leak sensor in SMART and then DUPLICATE. 10. Rename the duplicate to the next leak sensor, choose the next sensor from the list, then save the routine and check it with wet rag. Open valve and do next leak detector. 11. I grabbed all of my leak detectors, labeled them with their name with a labeling machine as I picked them up and then programmed and tested each one, confirming they worked and then put them back in position.

This works great via my cell phone. Be sure to order the YoLink Hub. Everything connects smoothly to my home internet. Very happy!

This was purchased along with the water leak detectors. This small valve control can be operated via wifi remote. It allows me to shut down the water to my home if I get an alarm on my phone. It works great and we have tried it while away to see how efficient it is. Works wonderfully. Imagine coming home from vacation to a flooded home. With this small device which was very easy for me to install, if I get a notification to a leak I can shut down the water immediately. We also shut the water down when we go on vacation and this allows us to control that feature while leaving and upon returning without having to trek to the utility room. Just a quick tap on the app. Wonderful product and I would and have recommended.

UPDATE - Since I wrote my original review Yolink has made many updates and changes to this product line. That includes stainless steel valve options. Use that one for any water system that has drinking water. Also, I need to give a rea-life example of how well this system works. The other day I accidentally left the water running in my laundry sink when I had to leave the house quickly due to an emergency. I had placed a sensor on the floor behind the sink when I first installed the system, and then forgot all about it. While I was out of the house the sensor detected a leak, I got an alert on my phone, the valve shut off, and when I got home I found just a small puddle that needed cleaning up. It all worked perfectly and saved me from having to deal with a big mess and big expense. --ORIGINAL POST-- So the valve and controller work great. No problems at all. I am very impressed with the ease of set-up and how responsive everything is. My issue is that this valve does not appear to actually be NSF certified, even though the company said so in the Questions/Answers section. I noticed that the valve does not have a "LF" stamp or a tag indicating it is lead free. I looked up the part number (A20-T25-B2-B) on the valve and saw that it is manufactured by a company named Tonhe in China. Tonhe does not advertise this specific valve as being lead free or NSF certified. They say that their stainless steel valves are NSF61 certified, but make no claims at all about their brass valves. I found other companies that appear to be using the same valve claiming that it has about 3% lead. This would have been considered safe prior to 2011 in the USA (when the standard was 8% lead), but since then the allowable level is less than 0.25%. Realistically it may still be completely safe because there are many more factors involved in lead leaching than just the lead content of the fitting, but it does not appear to be NSF certified. This is no issue at all if you are using it to control irrigation, or something else that doesn't involve drinking water. If you are planning to use it as an emergency shut off for the whole house, and you want to be sure you are lead-free, then you should probably consider the Bulldog valve combo sold by YoLink and use it on a ball valve that you know is NSF certified, or it looks like Yolink now sells a stainless steel motorized valve. Stainless would also be lead free and safe for drinking water.

I purchased 2 of these but had not yet installed them when I learned that the brass valves are not certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 standards for use in potable water lines and carry the risk of lead exposure if used for potable water. This lack of certification or a warning against use in potable water lines is listed nowhere in the item description/details. Of course, I learned this after the return window had closed and now am out $350, having to purchase the stainless steel version.

I was not paid or compensated in any way for this review. We bought the valve in conjunction with the YoLink hub and four water sensors. This is one of the best purchases that we have made this year. I no longer have to worry about excessive water damage if I get a broken pipe while we are gone. Installation of the valve was relatively simple. I placed it on the main incoming waterline. Before installation, I installed two Sharkbite connectors to the valve. I cut my copper pipe to fit the length of the valve once I installed the shark bite connectors. Thankfully, I had enough play in the pipe that I could install the valve without any worry. Be sure to use shark bite connectors since it will connect to copper, pex, and other piping. I guess you could just sweat the copper connectors onto the pipe if you want, but that seems pretty silly since the shark bite connector were only 10 bucks each. I strategically placed the four sensors in the areas of my house that are most likely to have a problem with water. One of the really neat things about this system is that if it one of the detectors senses water, it will automatically shut the valve on the main waterline. The only downfall is that I had to contact YoLink support to get specific instructions as to how to set this up within the app. However, Support was very quick to respond to emails and gave very accurate and easy to understand instructions. The valve can work with or without 110 power. Luckily, I had an outlet that was close to the valve so I was able to plug-in the valve controller. However, even if power goes out, the batteries in the valve controller will continue to operate the controller and valve. The batteries are supposed to last up to two years before replacing, that is if you do not have access to 110 power. Also, the hub (which is different from the controller at the valve) works best if it is plugged in via ethernet cable to your Internet router. It can work with Wi-Fi, but I prefer the stable connection of a hardwired device instead. Remember that the hub is purchased separately from the valve. The hub and four sensors come in a starter pack. You can always buy more sensors if you want. Everything is controlled through an app on your phone. The connection of the devices to the app was easy and straightforward. You can also open and close the valve through the app on demand. Additionally, you can manually open and close the valve using a knob on the front of the valve assembly. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to be able to shut your power off in the event of a leak, or shut it off the app if you’re out of town. Lastly, if any of the sensors detect water, you can get a text and an email and a notification on your phone. You just set it up how you want, and forget it! I have tested all the sensors by putting them in about an eighth of an inch of water in a bowl. Every time, I receive notifications and the valve closed. Just buy it, install it, and stop worrying.

Works perfectly. Very happy with results!

Great product and work as expected.
