His trip traces the same route the Crusaders took during the Fourth Crusade, but he never says it. I wish he had gone to Zada then the trip would have been complete. It is very interesting to read the recipes. The directions are clear and easy to understand the color pictures are helpful to determine if you got it right. He chose recipes based on places that are not very touristy but are very traditional.

I got this book after watching his series on BBC America. His trip traces the same route the Crusaders took during the Fourth Crusade, but he never says it. I wish he had gone to Zada then the trip would have been complete. It is very interesting to read the recipes. Great book of recipes!
Saw the show for this book on TV while in Europe, and ordered this through Amazon while there. I ordered it as a gift for my wife. Arrived two days after arriving home and she was ecstatic and has used the book's recipes several times in the past 3 weeks she's had it.

GREAT BOOK FOR COOKS, FOODIES AND TRAVELLERS
This is a wonderful book full of excellent recipes from the eastern mediterranean. If you enjoy food, travelling and cooking, this is a treasure. Rick Stein writes easy to understand recipes and his books are colorful and beautiful. You can find here the most famous dishes from Eastern mediterranean cuisine and some unknown dishes that are wonderful. The book is a great guide for eating in Venice, Croatia, Albania, Greece and Turkey.

Ich habe die Sendungen im TV gesehen und darauf hin das Buch bestellt. Die Bottarga-Spaghetti mit den Vongole wie auch der Black Risotto mit dem Tintenfisch sind lecker geworden :-) Ich habe von Rick Stein auch das Buch "Long Weekends" gekauft. Zwei sehr schön gestaltete Erlebnis-Koch-Bücher. Wäre schön, wenn es die Bücher nicht nur in englisch, sondern auch in deutsch gäbe. Beide Bücher echte Kaufempfehlungen meinerseits.

Rick's books are like him and his cooking – uncomplicated and without all the messing around that Heston and others specialise in. When I read 'From Venice to Istanbul' this morning I immediately wanted to start cooking something from it, preferably while in sunny Albania but instead I made chilli jam as I watched the Belgium Grand Prix on my iPad propped up next to the cooker. This latest book shows the cucina povera of the parts of the Mediterranean lands that are seldom featured in cooking shows. The book deals with mezze, seafood of course, meat and poultry as well as street food, vegetarian and sides plus deserts. Most feature ingredients we don't see so much of in the UK so Rick suggests alternatives. He even apologises for the number of pot roasts in the book but that is the nature of the food in Greece, Croatia and Turkey. As usual Rick begins the recipes with little vignettes that are as interesting as the recipes. The photography is excellent as well.

Rick Stein's TV series from Venice to Istanbul was filled with interesting interviews and cooking demonstrations. I like to have the written version in a book to try to re-create the recipe, but it is wonderful to watch him do the cooking demonstrations. The book has colourful photos of the finished dish and ingredients that are inspirational. I'm very happy to be an owner of this very well presented book.
