Portlandia is IFC's hit sketch comedy series created, written by, and starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (WILD FLAG, Sleater-Kinney). The show is driven by a series of hilarious character-based shorts all of which take place in "Portlandia," the creators' dreamy and absurd rendering of Portland, Oregon where 90s culture reigns supreme and political correctness is all the rage.

Another Season. The Weirdos Are Back! Portland Is Still Weird!
I remember Portland when... Well actually, at 54, I remember Portland before it was Portland as we know it. I remember when they made 5th and 6th Avenues transit only. When most of downtown was more unsafe than appealing. When the Pearl District was called Skid Row. When all the gay bars were right down town, right in the heart of the City. Oh did we have fun.But this isn't about me, is it? (Don't be rude! I heard you.)I'm not sure how they latched onto Portland, Oregon, of all places, but I'm perversely glad they did. Seattle gets way too much attention for a city with a double deck freeway on the waterfront. These folks make a Normal out of neuroticism that hasn't been explored since Woody Allen went big budget mainstream. They have issues. In this first episode, Pasta is one of them. Binge eating is another. And oh the two lesbians at the bookstore---has anybody made us so delightfully uncomfortable? Changing diapers without noting the gender of the baby, so you don't gender imprint it? It opens with the crowd chasing the sun through the clouds (it actually rains twice as much in New Orleans as it does in Portland or Seattle, but the suicide rates in the Pac Northwest are much higher because of the clouds). There's as little sun in Portland as there is rain in San Francisco, and I'd take the rain.It should be San Francisco it's so freakishly ridiculous, but who would watch it?Yeah, it's Portlandia. Portland would be offended, if it weren't so happy that for once it's not Seattle. I still remember the Portland of Rafters and Embers, because I have no choice, I was there. But this isn't that Portland. It's much more weird. Weird is fun. This show isn't for everyone (although there is no sex, violence or overt vulgarity) but for those who like the satire of the hipster, it should have some appeal. And, as a bonus, Matt Lucas---well known to fans of "Little Britain" as "The Only Gay In The Village" has a bit part in episode one. Yeah!

Truly Portland through and through
As a resident of Portland it's amazing to me how accurate this program is. Okay, it pushes a few things to the absurd, but it's also frighteningly on the button to the spirt of this city and many of its residents.Episode 9 of Season 3 features several of the toys I designed with my company UNKL, so I was honored when Portlandia came calling on us asking to use some for an episode. I especially love how the toys are characterized as being from Japan. People who don't know any better think they're Japanese, but they're actually American, designed right here in Portlandia no less.UNKL limited edition designer toys are also available on Amazon too, so pick up Season 3 of Portlandia and a few toys that appear on Episode 9 and point out your new toys with an exuberant, "Hey I have that one and look, that one too, cool!"

FRESH!
See my review of Season 2. They just keep rolling along with more great witty, quirky, simultaneously hilarious and insightful episodes (a very tough combination to successfully pull off). Way better than any of the formulaic, tired, pretentious and outright obnoxious garbage currently being shilled as comedy. Hollywood hasn't managed to come up with anything remotely as clever in years despite their bloated budgets and smirking actors. I keep fearing it will end - Carrie and Fred will start taking themselves too seriously, become too famous and the magic will die; but until it does, I salivate awaiting each new episode.

I LOVE PORTLANDIA
I bought seasons 3, 4, and 5 in one fell swoop because I am simply addicted to Portlandia. I have owned seasons 1 and 2 for a while now and never got around to watching the newer seasons, so I decided to treat myself to the collection! The dvds arrived really fast and were packaged well to protect my precious cargo! To any who haven't seen Portlandia and have a sense of humor, stop what you're doing and get started on your Fred and Carrie adventure!

Fred and Carrie...BRILLIANT!
This show is one of the smartest, most quirky, intelligently funny shows I have ever seen! When I watched it for the first time, my thoughts were, "Oh my gosh, what is this?!" and "I must see more of it!".Fred and Carrie are such a natural match, all the characters they portray come across natural as well. Natural, but not necessarily normal. I wouldn't trust any of them with my life, but they're entertaining! As far as the video quality, it is magnificent. No complaints there!I highly recommend "Portlandia" to anyone who still dreams of the '90s. It's alive in Portland.

good
so excited, but I m only on #2 episode...it appears a little more contrived...I know what you're thinking, it IS meant to be contrived...but I feel that it has had a subtlety that somehow gets lost when the material is under pressure to fit into expected molds...we'll see how it progresses. Of course, I love it anyway, what else can come near? Arrested Dev?

Fabulous
Marvellous range of characters - a funnier US version of Little Britain, in a way, but way more sophisticated.

La saisons 3 est à l'image des deux précédente : Déjantée et hilarante !
J'ai découvert cette série à Portland OR (forcément).
